So, I have this Wizard character, who happens to be a Conjurer specialist. When he hits level 3, I will gain a new Feat, and was looking at Spell Mastery. If I take it then, I'm wondering which spells you would recommend that I take for this Feat? Keep in mind that a level 3 Wizard will have access to only level 1 and 2 spells.

I'm thinking Mage Armor or Shield would be a good choice. And possibly Color Spray or Invisibility. Rope Trick would be another option.

Thoughts?

I would pick a protection spell a utility spell and a an attack spell just to cover all the bases. summon monster is a choice worth looking at it may be good to have an extra body around.

I'd think it really depends on where you want to go with your Wizard. At this lower level, I'd probably concentrate on feats that you'll need as an entry to a prestige class later on (like Skill Focus: Spellcraft for Archmage). Taking those feats now means you can get better stuff later on.

Unless you're really having a problem with the GM nicking your spellbook, I'm not sure I'd bother taking it that early anyway, Worst comes to worst you can get it as a bonus feat (iirc) at level 5. I didn't take it on my wizard until even later, since I found that most of the spells I wanted to have all the time (like Teleport) were higher level (in the 4-6 range).

Since Spell Mastery is only useful if you lose your spellbook, I'd focus on spells that could help you get your spellbook BACK. Locate Object, Instant Summons, TELEPORT, that sort of thing. Maybe Freedom of Movement or Invisibility.

So you might want to wait to take the feat until your selection is better.
