Hello All,

We are starting Kingmaker, with a slight twist, as we will all be Gnomes.

I want to make a Mad Dog Barbarian (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/barbarian/archetypes/paizo---barbarian-archetypes/mad-dog), and I was thinking I would take a flying companion, and use it as a mount, as it would be awesome.

So the options are:

Dire Bat, Giant Mantis, Pteranodon, Quetzalcoatlus, Roc or Giant Wasp.

At the moment, I'm thinking Roc, as I imagine it would be awesome to be charging in one my roc with my lance, then leaping off to flank the poor sap I am attacking.

Roc is the best stat/advancement wise, but come on, you know you want to fly around on a giant bat. That is metal as hell. Get a ring of prestidigitation and turn it blood red! Then get glamored barding and make it look like it's on fire! Bat out of hell!

Now that's what I call mad-dogging it!

EDIT: Also, buy a wand of enlarge person for your animal companion, you won't regret it. Fun fact, enlarge person can be made permanent.

Enlarge Person doesn't work on animal companions....

"Target: one humanoid creature"

Fun Fact, Enlarge Person only works on people, not on animals.
(technically 'humanoids', but still not animals)

For Animal Size increase, you need the Animal Growth (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/a/animal-growth) spell.
Animal Growth is a 5th level spell for Druids/Wizards, which would normally make it not available in Wand form.
But Rangers get it as a 4th level spell, so Wands are an option, much more expensive than Enlarge Person mind you, but an option.

Edit Fun Fact: NINJAS!

If you can wrangle Enlarge Person on a druid, ranger or paladin though, such as through Arcane Savant or spell research, then you can use the 'share spells' ability to use enlarge person on an animal companion. On the other hand, then it's a second level spell (same as enlarge animal) if you go the Savant route, that doesn't last nearly as long as enlarge animal, but, on the gripping hand, you can make enlarge person permanent by the book, unlike enlarge animal.

The OP is playing a Barbarian, which is not known for having spells to share.

Speaking of which, you should strongly consider taking an archetype such as Racer for the animal companion that trades out Share Spells, as you don't have any spells to share.

Admittedly, I didn't catch the Mad Dog part, but then, they can't cast enlarge person either, so that is the the moot point, not that you can't cast enlarge person on your animal companion.

Still nope.

Share Spells (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/animal-companions):
"may cast a spell with a target of “You” on her animal companion"
Enlarge Person has a target of "one humanoid creature".

So you can cast spells like Longstrider (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/l/longstrider) or Aspect of the Falcon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/a/aspect-of-the-falcon) and share them with your Companion, but you still cannot put Enlarge Person on them.

Fair enough, my bad.
