View Full Version : Am I missing something? (PF Wizard Discoveries)

So I just ran across the Wizard discoveries from Pathfinder and I have to say I'm impressed.

It is impressive that they actually put out such balanced and fantastic feats so that they are finally on par with non-casters.

For example...

These two, while weaker than others, give the wizard the edge that they need to really shine in a game. What is the wizard to do if they actually had to learn, prepare, and cast spells to get an Outsider to help them? Or actually take the necessary feats to craft a golem? Unfair I say!

And don't forget this one! Without it the wizard would be hosed whenever they needed to prepare a spell in the middle of an adcenturering day. Oh woe is the wizard that must spend time to gain their meager power!

Though I must say that there are some bad discoveries. Yeah, allowing a wizard to pick spells from opposing schools? Who would ever do such a thing? Such a waste of space this following one is!

....
..
.

Hopefully you could tell I wasn't being serious.

What in the world was Paizo thinking when they made these discoveries for wizards? Please tell me I'm missing something and that non-casters got something nice too.

Or is Paizo just trying to be WIZARDS of the coast more than what WoTC could be? They are on the right track I guess.

I wouldn't have a problem with these discoveries if they gave other classes some equally powerful feat or class feature options.

How about take all the feat chains and compress them into one feat that increases as you level? Hell I would go with just getting rid of ability score prerequisites and stick with a level prerequisite.

*sigh*

Please tell me I'm missing something.

Nope not really missing much. The other classes have a lot of goodies as well... but yeah anytime you give a class that can bend reality to its will any new toys it tends to be overall better than anything that classes who lack the reality bending capability can get.

Most people still write the rules thinking that Evocation is the best thing ever.

Other classes such as the Cleric, Sorcerer, or Summoner could easily say they have as many goodies within their class as the Wizard. However I don't know of any class that has Class only feats that are anywhere near these.

Natural Spell has always been regarded as a great feat... But damn that feat is just sunshine and farts compared to what the wizard gets.
