So were doing WBL and starting at level 2 which means I've 1000G to spend but being a witch I can't figure out what I aught to buy.

I figure basic equipment for my witch will set me back about 30G and any single item we buy cannot cost more then 500G.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to increase my AC (currently at 12 with a 15 in dex) as a witch isn't proficient with any armors or shields. So of course will be preparing mage armor. However I am not sure that 2 hours of 16 AC is going to be nearly enough.

If anybody has any sugestions for gear that I could purchase I'd greatly appreciate it.

Silken ceremonial armor costs 30g, adds a +1 AC bonus, A full dex bonus, 0 armor check, 0 arcane spell failure, and no reduced speed. [ http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/armor/eastern-armor-and-shields ]

Also look into a buckler. You can wear it on one arm and cast with the other. I usually fluff the buckler as a 'protection rune' or some kind of trinket. [ http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/armor/buckler ]

Wand of mage armor can be better than the spell sometimes. 50 casts of it, just need to remember to poke yourself. [ http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wands ]

The Haramaki only costs 3gp and is 1/4 the weight. But I admit the Silken has style.
In case Eastern Armor is not allowed there is also the Armored Kilt, 20gp, a 'massive' 10lbs, and a Max Dex of +6. Not as good as the Eastern armors, but perfectly useable.

As far as "not being proficient" that doesn't matter.
The only penalties for being Non-proficient with Armor are tied to the 'Armor Check Penalty'. If ACP=0 then proficiency doesn't matter at all.

Yeah, you can get eastern armors w/ 0% ASF, and there is the mage armor spell. For shields, just get darkwood or masterwork and you can erase the check penalty completely. Long-term, you want a mithral buckler for 0% ASF, but having say...5% isn't horrible. Also, hexes don't case about spell failure.

Also consider ranks in ride and buying a mount and its gear and barding if you plan to cackle. That way you can use the mount for movement and still have your move action to cackle. Keep in mind that for 1 round duration hexes, you need to cackle immediately after laying on the hex that same round or else it will wear off at the start of your next turn, before you have a chance to keep it going. Without a mount, you'll be stuck with just 5 ft steps, and hexes are not that long-ranged.
