Greetings, agent!
The Society of Librarians' Archival Protection Society (SLAPS) would like to welcome you to the somewhat-esteemed ranks of Archive Protection Experts. As the Society's appointed archivist, I have every confidence that you will be a credit to the order and a scourge upon all those who do not return their books on time.
Your first assignment concerns the recent disappearance of "The Way," by one Aldous J. Swann, from the village of Andenberg. I do not mean that the book has gone missing from the library - though that is most definitely the case - I mean to say that the book has seemingly vanished altogether. This is doubly strange when one considers that Andenberg is Swann's hometown. We have received a number of distraught messages from the town librarian (and, I must add, from Swann's mother.)
In addition, we believe that the book's loss might portend some disturbing things for Andenberg and the surrounding regions. We have heard rumors of book-burnings in the region, led by disciples of an as-yet-unknown god. This cannot be allowed to continue.
Find out what you can, return the book if at all possible, and please do try to prevent any others from being consigned to the flames. I remain
Your humble servant,
Elia Whitten
Archivist, Society of Librarians

It took three days' ride through Isger to bring you to the outskirts of this stinking village. So far, the trip has been uneventful; it looks like all that is about to change. Up ahead on the road, you see an overturned wagon wreathed in smoke.

Perception checks and Knowledge (history/geography) if ya got it.

(Post in-character actions in italics, and mechanics rolls below. If you want to pick a color for your character to type in, that is also cool with me.)

Okay, moving on.

From out of the rising smoke, you hear an ominous chittering.

Must be a bird or something.

Damn squirrels are after my bird feeders again

I remember this one time a squirrel got his head stuck in the bird feeder. My neighbor Jimmy, who's a halfling came over when he heard about it. Now the thing you have to know about Jimmy is that he's short. Cause he's a halfling. And he was too short to really see what was going on, on account of the feeder being so high in the tree, and his eyesight being bad, which is rare for a halfling. But he still wanted to see the squirrel, so he decided to try and climb the tree to see what all the commotion was about. Now, he made it pretty high up, so he could see what was going on, but when he did, boy did he have a laughing fit. Laughed so hard he was slapping his knee. Too bad he forgot about holding on to that tree, and he started to fall. Fortunately, he grabbed onto the squirrel's tail as he did, and they both hung there for a bit, way up in that tree, until the squirrel finally go unstuck and they both fell all the way to the ground. Now we gathered at the bottom of the tree as a group, and we had a good old laugh at all this. And boy howdy do we still tell that story over a few beers over his grave where we buried him in the hole he made as he hit the ground.

You've seen goblins before, of course- they are a near-universal Golarion pest. These look... different, though. They are more emaciated and battle-scarred than those you've seen before, but there's more to it than that. Maybe it's the fact that none of them are smiling.

There will be a surprise round. Those who passed the Perception check can get involved.

Years studying the Good Book left Pepperoni without much of a sense of humor, but even he had to stifle a grin upon seeing the goblins trip all over each other.
