Let's say you wanted to build a pirate like character.
However you didn't like the Dread Pirate class, and on top of that the campaign was made on one continent so going by sea to different lands isn't possible.

How would you roleplay and build a pirate meant for land?
May it be they were always by land, or they were shipwrecked and kind of forced to go by land?

Also, if you were by sea how would you go about slaying giant ocean/sea monsters?

Wouldnt this just be a Swashbuckling Bandit then? Fancy swinging from chandelier and tipping over tables fighting style.

Stormwrack has many pirate related things, if one wanted to be a pirate without Dread Pirate, such as Legendary Captain and Scarlet Corsair.

I'll give them a look.
Also looked for air ships though (Idea hit me later) and I ran across the Zeppelin.

cZeppelin: Colossal vehicle; Profession (pilot)
–4; Spd fly wind × 20 ft. (clumsy); Overall AC –3; Section
hp 30 (hardness 5); Section AC 3; Rigging 200 hp
(0 hardness), AC 1; Ram 4d6; Face 40 ft. by 10 ft.;
Height 10 ft; Crew 10; Cargo 10 tons (Spd wind × 15
ft. if 5 tons or more); Cost 60,000 gp.

Does such a giant ship really only have 30HP?

I could lose it so easily like that... :/

Dont' forget the Elemental Airships, as presented in the Eberron Campaign Setting.

That's 30 hp per 10x10 section of the zepplin. A zepplin is a colossal vehicle, and thus probably has something of at LEAST 10-15 sections.

It mentions no where how many sections though. :/

Water breathing, Freedom of Movement if at all possible (especially against krakens and other tentacled monsters: they have many, many attacks with improved grab and huge grapple check bonuses), and something that targets Reflex or Will saves (or offers no save) rather than the high Fortitude saves and many hit points of most giant monsters (aquatic or otherwise).

For generic land-based banditry, I'd go with a Swift Hunter build. Another option would be Swordsage focused on Shadow Hand (though it's less of a wilderness feel).

For a more pirate-y theme, Daring Outlaw is an option. For the more stereotypical "bar fight" pirates, Drunken Master.

How could I have forgotten about them? D&D always comes around to Monty Python references!

For dirty fighting i allways favored the darning outlaw + scarlet corsair build and einhander feat from PH2 so you have 2 diferent ways to feint as a free action.

Going swift hunter is not a bad idea either, you can use the favored terrain ACF on the ranger lvls and go with desert, urban and ships.
