What was the legal trick to get epic feat access before Level 20?

Depending on the reading, a venerable-aged Dragonwrought Kobold can take any epic feats it qualifies for (because true dragons of Old or higher can take epic feats, iirc). This one is not valid if your DM doesn't consider dragonwrought kobolds to be true dragons by virtue of their age categories and dragon type.

Martial Monks from Dragon #310 can possibly pick up feats from the Epic Fighter's bonus feat list, as their bonus feats ignore prerequisites. This one is not valid if the DM considers Fighter different from Epic Fighter regarding what you can choose from.

Actually the dragonwrought kobold thing works regardless of whether or not they're true dragons. That trick works for any dragon not just ''true'' ones. Dragonwrought kobolds are undeniably some form of dragon true or not. The only reason to care about the distinction is a few class progressions specific to true dragon like loredrake.

Void Disciples Moment of Clarity ability lets them grant any feat or skill excluding ancestor feats to an ally. PHB definition of Ally includes yourself, so you can get Epic Feats that way.

Hand of Glory trades a amulet slot for a ring slot. The epic feat gives you an EXTRA slot.

Considering that you can still slap on a Con or Wis at no additional cost besides the sun of the start booster and the hand as per the MIC, it is very much like a free epic feat.

Even more advantageous is the Ringsword from Arms and Equipment Guide. Wielding it grants you use of the ring without using up another slot. Plus, you could use more than one at a time if you wanted to.
