So, I am a 4e player, and have been my whole gaming life (Which is not very long) and was recently thinking of switching to 3.5. I have already downloaded and read a bit of the players handbook, and was wondering if there were any other sourcebooks (besides Monster Manual and DM guide) that I should take a look at,
and if anyone knew of anything that could help get me started with 3.5. (Preferably free)
I will be playing with a small group, probably 3-4 players.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

More content usually improves D&D 3e/3.5

Welcome to 3rd. I'll second the guide to free D&D; it's very useful. If you enjoy 4e's AEDU mechanic, I recommend checking out the Warblade (https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060802a), which uses a similar mechanic, but in the context of 3.5. Otherwise, spellcasters in 3.5 also play similarly, especially if you pick up Reserve Feats (Complete Mage, Complete Champion). Most other classes play differently, if you're looking for a fresh type of mechanic.

I hope you're able to find an edition that works well for you and your group!

Edit: If you're not too picky about the 3.5 that you play, Pathfinder is almost entirely free, and the books are available as PDFs at a reduced cost. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/

A lot of the later books were clearly "on the path" to 4e and therefore can be the path *back* to 3.5.

Tome of Battle, Tome of Magic, Magic of Incarnum.

Nah, leaving the ballpit is moving to a non-D&D, non WoD system. (pathfinder counts as D&D) There's plenty of good systems out there if people would just look.
