a few ground rules

everyone that is required for the trial will be heard (I will determine if your voice needs to be heard)
I will tolerate no disruptions in the courtroom (you will be asked to leave, if you don't I will call the police and they will cart you off in handcuffs)
I am the Judge, I have the final say, I will listen to all arguments, just be patient.

Will Fus and a representive of the Town Police please appear before me.

Fus is accused of 113 counts of Murder, 1 count of assault and 2 counts of resisting arrest.

Ghostly McBish floats into the courtroom. McBish here to represent The Town. I aplogize for the tardiness but I was hoping that someone more familiar with this case would appear. But I will do my best in this case.

Fus glares at Mcbish's ghost, before looking at the judge.

Thank you McBish, I appreciate you stepping forward to do this. Do you have an opening statement?

Kal and Exodus enter the courtroom and take a seat in the back.

Yes your honor. Fus is charged with well over a hundred murders in this case. He preyed on the weak and defensless of this town and murdered them and then used their remains to his own sinister purpose. In the course of his investigation, Officer Matt, attempted to apprehend Fus on several occasious, to his own great personal risk. In the end he along with several other officers and citzens managed to apprehend this madman. He is obviously to dangerous to be realsed back into the streets, and by the end of this trial you will agree with me and I hope you punish him to the upmost limits of the laws.

[Castaras]

Fus laughs at this.

Castaras smiles slightly.

Aerin, standing to one side, rolls her eyes, knowing that if they had really mastered the art of glaring, they would be glaring disintegrates or fingers of death.

And everyone glaring at each other? This is a courtroom, not a playpen, please act accordingly.

Polite? Hmm...

Since I came to this town, many have seen me with my magic. While searching for components for my magic I got viciously attacked by a person by the name of Matt. I defended myself with all I could, but got captured for amazingly trumped up charges. For the mere act of gathering spell components I have been tossed in here with charges for murder on my head.

*Nekulor quietly enters the courtroom, then proceeds to watch the trial currently at hand, taking in all the facts, as well as sizing up Fus*

About my first encounter with Fus? Well, I was going into the Temple of Iames to ask the Priest about his deity, when I got into the main temple area he wasn't there so I decided to wait for him. When I walked in Fus, shot a poisoned bolt and a spell at me. The spell was Finger of Death and I am lucky to still be alive today.

*laughs at the testimony as he approaches the main trial area*

Fus, you seem to be lacking in legal representation, so how about I represent you? I was on the arcane university's mock trial team, 3 years in a row, as Captain and head Defense Council.

If Fus so pleases, Your Honor, I wish to represent him in this trial as Primary Defense Council.
Ah, and let me introduce myself. I am Nekulor Xilias Dyrr, Lord, if anyone wishes to use my formal title. I'm here in town on some buisness but I always try to see justice dealt equitably to all if I can, especially cases like this where the odds are unfairly stacked against the defendant. *looks to the prosecution* After all, the burden of proof is their's alone.

((If this surprises you, you'll see what greater motive I have later, suffice to say that, when I enter an event, a new variable has suddenly been added to the situation. If the DM wants Fus without representation, or if Castaras wants to go it alone, then just let me know.))

Fus looks at Nekulor. He shrugs.

I have no objections to Nekulor acting as legal aid to Fus.

Your honor, my client, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Through testimony, direct and cross examination, I will bring to light the fact that he was, in fact, attacked first and was only defending himself against his attacker, who followed him to the temple of Iames. I now hand it over to the prosecution to continue with their first witness.

May I approach, your honer? *holds a paper in his hands*

Don't worry about charges against me. I'm a lich, these fools can't tell my real form from the illusionary forms I take. Should the verdict go south, take the 2nd paper on the table to the left of you and read the first two lines."

4) I don't think Arha's actually a priestess, though I could be wrong on that.

The one-on-one conversation is being kept that way with a mental sending, which I will note now, but I can't find where else that would apply. Yes your honor. Matt did you ever run into Fus again?

Could you please tell us about your other encounters with him.

[The Black Prince]

My other encounter with him was the one on which he was arrested. He came down the street, shapeshifted as a female elf. Because of my badge's True seeing effect I was able to see his true form. I asked him to come in quietly. He refused and I proceeded to use force.

[McBish]

How did he resist?

[The Black Prince]

He threw down his amulet which preceded to sprout the ghosts of the innocents he had previously killed. He appeared to command them mentally and they preceded to attack me.

[McBish]

And these ghosts appeared to be the people that Fus killed in the Slums? How did you come to realize this?

[The Black Prince]

Well we did have surveillance of Fus going into the houses of the Slums. As he entered each house there were loud screams which were hurriedly silenced. I did find evidence that these people were killed in the pool of blood on the floor of one of the houses. It was thus obvious that these people were those that he killed especially since what they said agreed with the fact that they were killed by Fus.

Auras are shown in white for weak, green for moderate, yellow for more difficult, red for strong and black for impossible. Bypasses will saves for those under level 25, other must make a will save over 20 to resist. I'll dig up the place where I found it if you want me to. I think it was a WotC forum post.))

He wonders how Nekulor's going to get around the fact that the courtroom is outside the normal time and space-flow of Town, and that Fus, while being in the stand right now, is also being teased and called "Cuddles" in a completely different place. If they teleported out of here, would the other Fus also teleport? And what if...

He cuts off the train of thought, and goes back to observing events in court.

((Because the portal is keyed outside normal time space, namely, my little piece of the multiverse. What proper lich doesn't have a proper pocket dimension tower? ((Matt, doesn't matter if I die. I'm a lich. My body reforms in...I think it was 6D10 hours after death. I need to check. Anyone have the Book of the Dead expansion book? I don't have it on me at the moment. Also, I've got enough summoning spells prepped that I can have a greater demon of some sort, 4 shades, 2 standard elementals of random choosing (hoping for chaos) and about 10 undead of varying strength (liches get it as a power, more uses per lich level plus what I prepped from my main wizard class) all in the room in a few minutes. If his ECL is 30 and mine is 29, combined we make a formidable force. Hopefully, I can just port us out though))

Yes it did. I found a gem at the site of the disapperances. Later that gem led me to Castaras. With matt there she described who she gave the gem to and matt realised that the person described was fus. later again I was called to the slums where I helped matt fight of the hoard and apprehend fus.

The civilians who were aiding the police were from the slums so ther Identified them.

I was searching for some fire opals.

Why were searching for fire opals in the slums?

Because I didn't know where to get them. I found them later on, only my previous thoughts that they might be in slums were wrong.

Did you do anything else while in the slums?

[Nekulor]

Objection your honor, prosecution is leading the witness.

Castaras watches quietly.

Fus will you please tell us everything you did in the slums.

Lets see, I went in, I searched for spell components, I left. I came back in a few days later to get more spell components, and then left. I teleported in, most of the time.

So you didn't get into a fight with the police in the slums?

[Castaras]

I did get into a fight, that was when they attacked me.

Did the officer tell you that you were under arrest and if you didn't surrneder that he would have to use force?

[Castaras]

I can't remember.

Be ready. I will have you read from a copy of the police report, which has the activation words written on it. While you read those and open the dimension door, I'll cast living disintegrate from the scroll and then cast wish to break all the enchantments of all equipment of hostiles in the room.

Your honor, if it so pleases the court, I wish to question Fus in my true form. It's awfully hard to lie in the face of... for lack of a better way to put this, death.

I am not actually alive, as it were. I was, at one time. However, being young, impressionable, power-hungry and insatiable for magic power, I bound my soul. I can maintain a corporeal form, much like what was my once natural drow form you see before you. However, it drains my powers and makes me feel physically weakened. I feel such heavy pain, as much as any skeletal dead can, upon me now. So...without further adieu...

*Nekulor releases the energy he was using to sustain his living body and the illusion that it was in perfect living condition. Those around can see now, bits of flesh clinging to a lifeless, hollow, grey-black skeleton. The flesh is black and obviously dark elven, but the body looks very frail. For those with a Spellcraft over 30, you can sense a multitude of powerful wards upon the lich, and they all seem very heavily lain upon one another, in a branching network of magical defenses.*

Now, I shall proceed with my examination of Fus. I'll try not to keep the good people of this court waiting any longer than need be.

Fus. Get back on the stand and sit.

Now, let's get back to administering some justice around here.

Aesa's illusionary double, who had slipped in sometime while no one was watching, yawns and rolls her eyes at Nekulor, adding his name to her list of arrogant spellcasters who think they are something, and need to be cut down to size.

Aesa begins to doodle runes in the air idly, leaving the small, softly glowing white sigils hanging there until she wants to use or disperse them.

Gwen rolls her eyes and waits for Fus to get back to the stand.

You, miss, shouldn't be prepping offensive magic in a court room. I've got my eye sockets on you.

Aesa raises her eyebrow. You honor, I have said nothing, and done nothing offensive, neither are these- Aesa gestures to the runes- offensive magic. If my mere presence offends, then I will leave if asked.

*Nekulor disappears into the portal and the portal dissipates. The sheet of paper with the glowing ink at the defense table then bursts to life. The words of it echo in the air and the paper,a scroll,activates.*

"I've left you all a friend of mine to sit in on further proceedings."

*a shadow forms from the paper to the floor, it seems to be living material, yet intangible. A greater shade emerges and constitutes itself within this world, and it settles into a bench in the third row*

*the paper speaks again*
"Admit it...you thought I was going to try and kill you all. Didn't you? You all can laugh a little. The shade isn't hostile, just don't make fun of her weight... she's a tad sensitive about being so skinny. Good luck to you all. I'm off to finish establishing my base of power and finish my preparations for conquering all of you...wait...I'm monologuing from a piece of paper. Sorry about that."

*the paper burns and forms a pile of ash on the floor*

Pelgof stands up again, and walks to the stand.

Pelgof, do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you (insert Diety's name)?

Pelgof hesitates for a moment.

In the name of any deity that might accept me, I do so swear.

McBish, you may question the witness.

Pelgof do you know Fus?

[Xaspian]

Yes. We are both members of Saurous' Mage Guild.

[McBish]

And did Fus ever tell you anything about this crime?

[Xaspian]

He had mentioned the trial several times, often expressing annoyance at how long it was taking. I was interested, so asked him what he was referring to. He replied by telling me the charges against him.

[McBish]

Did he tell you anything else about the case?

[Xaspian]

I remember that he seemed pleased, although I'm not sure why. I think he got the charges a bit confused, getting the numbers slightly wrong, but I can't be sure.

He pauses, and rubs his head.

I'm sorry, I've recently had an experience that's left my mind a little disordered. We talked a bit about methods for gathering spell components, and then the conversation moved on to his past. We didn't talk for long.

[McBish]

Did he ever tell you why he was in the slums?

[Xaspian]

He said that he was irrestitably drawn to the place. A few moments later, he seemed to become homesick. Perhaps that particular part of Town reminded him of his homeland?

[McBish]

Did he ever admit to the crimes he is accused of to you?

[Xaspian]

Not directly, no.

[McBish]

Did he ever give you reason to belive that he commited these crimes?

[Xaspian]

At some point he mentioned that he needed bodies for some reason. I could see how it could be interpreted as admitting to the crimes, but could equally well be a perfectly innocent statement, unconnected to any wrongdoing.

[McBish]

McBish, please call your next witness.

Your honor we have shown that not only did Fus attack several police officers that he also murdered many people in the slums to create a force of undead. He shows no remorse for these crimes, or even put up a defense against them. I urge you to put him away for as long as possible. Thank you.

[Castaras]

Fus sighs resignedly.

For resisting arrest I sentence you to 12 hrs

For battery/attempting to kill Matt I sentence you to 24 hrs

For committing murder and turning unknown numbers of people in the slums into undead (a most detestable act) I sentence you to 480 hrs, to include resurrection fees, one week of parole and weapons restrictions.

Time already spent in jail is subtracted from the total time you will serve.

This trial is over.

McBish leaves, and several enfocer faries take Fus to Jail and back to the Town timeline.

*Nekulor's shade melds back into the shadow plane after a last "You should have joined me..."*

Pelgof turns his head when he feels the alteration in Shadow, but shrugs, and leaves the courtroom.

Aesa snickers at the shadow and then vanishes.

[Castaras]

Fus grumbles and allows himself to be taken away.
