The day dawned cold and dreary, the swamp forests of Betracorsta not yet heated up enough to make it truly unpleasant, as the later day would prove, Reveille rung out across the camp, stirring the Ventillan few. Having recently arrived, you were all still finding it hard to adjust to the higher gravity and multitude of horrible stinging insects, all of which you had been informed that they were harmless, mostly.
Posted in the mess hall were the general orders for the day, mostly the same as yesterday, except for one, it read:
4th Squad and 9th Squad Bravo Company
You are to report to the Colonels office at 1200 hours.
Full kit is required, all regular duties canceled.
Major Magos Patriom (2iC).

With the Morning free of your standard chores you have about 6 hours to entertain yourselves, check your gear etc.

You are - 4th and 9th Squad, Bravo Company, Ventillan Few, you have some time before needing to report to the colonel.
In this time you may do the following:
Any two of:
- find Acquisitions
- Weapon modifications (or find someone to do them for you)
Any number of small rp things (card games, general gear checks etc.)

The Front conditions are as follows:
Multiple Regiments Deployed - Availibility Setting (pg 161)
Newly arrived to the Front (Less than a month) - -10
Front active 7 years - +30
Currently at a ceasefire - +30

Logistics ratings below:

What any one of you knows about the Planet currently:
Betracorsta is a High gravity (1.2 standard) swamp world, it is currently in the middle of a ork Waagh, the climate is extremely hot, commonly reaching 50 degrees in the heat of the day, and mostly consists of one large, planet spanning swamp.

As no-one ever ended up deciding on Squads here you are:
4th Squad: Logistics Rating - 35
Operator - Sir Dancealot - Veridia 'Mouth' Mool
Weapon Specialist - ArcturasV - Corbin
Commissar - CrimsonKnight - Mara Gruber
Rattling - Entelechy - Attia Drawl
Tank - Ventilla's Wrath

9th Squad: Logistics Rating - 40
Sergeant - Random Lunatic - Morgan O'Rourke
Medic - iggrunt9 - Malakai Klemper
Operator - LeSwordfish - Ollanus Lyle
Tech-Priest - dupersudi - Dentetesta
Operator - Jyssika - Ginnailk Jinx Mechalandri
Tank - Knight's Terror

Please try to keep it to one or 2 posts each before the meeting with the colonel, the other regiments deployed with you are all listed on the OOC thread (The original list of choices) any items in their standard kit you get a +20 bonus to acquisition.

Jinx practically leaps with joy at the news;
Their previous deploment have been rough
and they had lost a few men, none too close
but every loss hurt when there was no home
to replace from.

This news however meant she might be getting
her sentinal back; well not her's, her's was scrap
metal by now but a new one all the same.

Engineers eyes and ears,
momma's getting her legs back!
She practically floats through the mess hall
with how good of a mood she is in.

A few sighs; some wolf whistles and cheers
from some of her friends. She had a list as
long as her arm for what she would need if
she was getting her old position back.
A good sentinal pilot knowing exactly what
gear they need to fix their legs just how they
like them.

She sits down next to a few of the other
sentinal pilots; she rarely got to spend
time with them no she had been reassigned.

Any of you Bambi's know if Tinker has spare
rig parts?
She takes a large gulp of slop; forgetting in her
good mood just how aweful the breakfast was
on this hellhole.
Wretching; the rest laugh at her but she soldiers
through swallowing the horrible mouthful.
Yeah, laugh it up ladies... None of your ugly mugs
can spoil my good mood.

Where possible, Lyle slept in Knights Terror- for one thing, it tended to be warmer and dryer than the cold swamp nights, and for another he'd never really felt confident out in the open.

With six hours to go before the meeting he set off in search of the assorted bits and pieces he'd been searching for, more in hope than expectation of actually finding anything.

Morgan Hmed at the notice on the bulletin. Going to get thrown into the grinder headfirst without so much as a chance to adapt. May as well head over to the Munitorum depot and see if the requisitions he had put in had somehow made it. And then find something to do inside-like maybe a few hands of Emperor's Tarot...

Malakai read the orders with a sigh and was no longer interested in breakfast, not that the mess here was anything he would miss today.

Without duties for the next six hours to occupy himself he wandered over to the chapel looking to hear a sermon from the priests. It was quiet inside compared to the noise and action elsewhere on site. The "Few" had just recently made landfall and he feared that not having had enough time to acclimate, too many would not return from whatever assignment they were about to receive. As he sat there his thoughts started to go back to Ventilla and those guardsmen lost over the years.

But it was bad luck to think about that before receiving new orders. Malakai shook the memories from his head and got up figuring he best get to the supply office before everything got handed out. Afterwards he prepped and repacked his gear before meeting back up the squads.

Noticing the bulletin as he gets his morning dose of nutrient past, Dentetesta makes an angry mechanical buzzing noise and mutters to himself. "BZZZzzZT, why must they interrupt my ministrations of the Tanks? Combat perhaps? If so I should get more warning so as to prepare the proper rites! And to retrieve the correct equipment!" He quickly inserts the nutrient paste and rushes off to minister the tanks and sends his servitor to retrieve the gear he had requested.

As he is finishing sanctifying the tank, Dentetesta's servitor finally return. "About time, this would go much faster with you performing your du..tie.. Is that a Vehicle Shield Generator? And... a Melta Bomb?!??! OMNISSIAH BE PRAISED!!" Dentetesta begins loudly chanting. "THE SPIRIT IS THE SPARK OF LIFE BZZZzzzZZT!" He strikes a rune on the Shield Generator. "FROM THE LIES OF ANTIPATH THE CIRCUIT PROTECTS US BZZZZzzzzT TOLL THE GREAT BELL ONCE BZZzzzZzZZT THE OMNISSIAH KNOWS ALL, COMPREHENDS ALL BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzZZT!" With this last declaration he triggers a final rune activating the shield generator.

Morning came, and saw Corbin munching on a muffin lodged in his mouth, gotten from the mess tent, scrambling through the base towards Ensign Sato's bunk, weaving through the crowds, bumping off people who seemed amused at the youth and enthusiasm that the young man had as he was running without a care, pulling off his uniform jacket along the way, the weather faaaar too hot for it now that morning formation was over and he wasn't expected to wear it.

Finally he reached the tent he was looking for, ducking inside to find that most of the tent had been cleared out, a single round table set up, 4 people gathered around, dealing out cards as they cheered a greeting for the young kid as he settled in, chewing on his muffin and settling his 'bet' up on the table. Ventillian Rations, not much to him, but hell, after a long deployment something new and different was pretty damned appealing to those who had been here for a long time. He settled in, playing a few rounds of The Emperor, The Primarch, and The Inquisitor with the men and women at the table, others betting whatever they had on hand/kit, a copy of The Commissar's Justice, rations, ammo, grenades, recaf, and other small odds and ends.

As a function of Logic means I need a 39 for it, opposed by whatever KasmKat feels like rolling for the other players:

[roll0] vs 39.

After playing a few hands, burning some hours, he got up from the table, waving at Ensign Sato and the others, promising to be back soon for another few rounds of the game, taking whatever was left/won with him. He was still a pretty cheerful, upbeat person, but no longer running to the game, moving slowly through the camp. He knew the meeting was coming up, but he had time, and frankly important stuff to get to. Hurrying along to his tank he took the time to run it through some drills, making sure the Machine Spirits of the shell magazines, loader, and gun were all operating up to expectations, taking a few dummy shots down the range to keep his practice up and drills, sending off a runner to make sure the stocks were replenished ASAP. All in all, a boring day, hardly the auspicious beginning to some grand adventure, for he had no idea what awaited him.

Nothing huge and mechanical, just drilling with the tank, maintenance, range practice, simple things that any tank gunner/crewman would do during the day. Because hey, like he knows they're about to face down a horde or Orkoids or 'nids or daemons, etc.

Jinx finished in the mess and headed to check her reqs
she had put in for some med-gear before she heard the
new changes were happening.

Afterwards she heads across the compound to the vehicle
park; their squads Engineseer was messing around with
a Russ. She raises a hand; making the one handed sign of
the Omnissaih and shouted a greeting in her elated state.

Cogs? Heard any binary-chatter about empty vehicles?
She expected the squad would be being disbanded and her
being moved to a sentinal squad; or maybe she would be
replaced. She couldn't explain it but she had a feeling.

Knocking she pokes her head into the workshop;
Tinker?
A grubby techmarine is working on a bunch of vehicles; adding
a number of personal modifcations that have been requested by
their pilots or crew. He smiles to Jinx and stands up from his work.

Come on... You must have heard something!
She points a hand towards the wall
Its hellish marsh and jungle out there; they must
need vet walker pilots! Tell me you have me some legs!

She will keep bothering people she thinks might know
whether her hunch is true or not until the meeting.

"OOH! And one of those! What do you mean I can't have one? Stop shaking your head like that, of course I can have one, you should give it to me. It's because I just got out of surgery isn't it? I swear I'm fine, and don't look at me like that I can hold my alchohol now c'moooon nobody'll know it's missing, it's just a little bit of amasec. Just a Sip? Stop scowling all I want is a sip. Fine, fine, I'll go. Can I have the pistol at least? You know I can't shoot straight with this damn lasgun the FORGOT TO TRAIN ME HOW TO USE, but oh, you'll be in the regiment with the solid projectile weapons they said. Bah. Oh, a Ripper? Really? SWEET!" She hugged to old supply sergeant, and after filling out his forms, wandered off to find her Gunner Corbin to tell him all about her new toy, until then, he slightly psychotic companion would have to do...

Gunner Corbin could be found finishing up his drills with the Leman Russ, and giving the old girl a bit of a cleaning, making sure it was in Commissariat Approved Condition, before whatever meeting was on the docket. At the very least he wasn't going to get flogged, then shot, on charges of failure to properly maintain his machine spirits... and yes, not his job entirely, but he wouldn't have the Coggers off buggering the Commissar or anyone else about how he had fouled it up by allowing bits of swamp muck or shell residue to build up.

So it was that Veridia found him, taking a brush to the tank's main gun, cleaning it out as best he could according to the field manual's instructions.

Enginseer Dentetesta looks up from his installation of the Force shield. "Operator Mechalandri, as I have told you before my designation is not "cogs", it is Enginseer Dentetesta or Enginseer. As for your question, most of the vehicles are empty." He gestures with his mechadendrite to the row of armor. "But you have no need of them right now, we will receive our assignment at 1200." Having answered the question to his satisfaction he gets back to installing the Force Field generator. Chanting prayers in both Techna-Lingua and Low Gothic.

"CORBIN! CORBIN! LOOK! AT WHAT I GOT!" She hold up the Ripper Pistol, her psychotic companion eyeing it greedily, "Isn't it COOL?!! It has a- At this point, she proceeded to blather on about what exactly it was, and how it could injure a person. Except with a lot more words.

Jinx steps back out onto the forecourt to where
the two of 4th Squad were stood near Cogs.

You two heard the news?
She is not particularly impressed by the pistol; instead
jumping up onto the Leman Russ and inspecting
the tracks.

Fat boy gonna have trouble in the marshes...

Corbin did seem excited to see the Ripper pistol, leaning, nodding as she explained all the various features, squatting down on top of the Leman Russ, his forearms resting against his thighs as he studied the new shiny pistol. He hardly noticed Jinx, so engrossed was he with what was going on, that as the Operator spoke it caused him to slightly startle, almost falling off the side of the tank. He shook his head at Jinx, "Nah, my Coggie buddy told me it'd be fine, long as I keep it clean and do all the catechisms to the Machine Spirits and the like." Sandra herself was busy with the large brush, scrubbing down the opposite side of the tank, and the sponson mounts, murmuring litanies to the machine spirit within.

Jinx shrugs and points to a highly decorated sentinal across the court.
Struggle more than Miss Miracle Thighs over there...

She smiles cheekily.
I will be sure to give you a push if you get stuck once I get my legs back!

By this point everyone who has met anyone knows Jinx believes she is
going to be getting her job back as a sentinal pilot; she literally hasn't
shut up about it all morning.

Careful there Corbs, you’ll fall face first! Oooh! Don’t we have a mission briefing soon? Should we head out to that? Is ol’ lumpy running fine? Is that an Infernus round? Where’d you get that? That’s awesome! We can light all the things on fire! Oh, the surgery went well. Now I can hook into the guns on ol’ lumpy here and I’ll be almost as good a shot as you! Isn’t that right Ty?” She nudged her companions shoulder. He grunted and muttered something about mirrors and sharp knives. See! Look at ‘im. You can tell he’s excited to do something! Do you guys know what we’re doin’ yet? Were we supposed to meet up for a briefing? DID I MISS THE BREIFING?” Bewildered, Mouth looked about for the Commissar.
