[Event] McBish's Funeral

[McBish]

On the edge of the cemetary is a recently dug grave with a casket waiting to be lowered into the ground. The head stone reads "McBish He lived well and died loved."

[McBish]

Natalie leads the group of people to the site of the grave.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames walks behind her.

Alena and Alex follow behind Iames.

[McBish]

Natalie steps up to the casket and turns to everyone.

"We are here to lay McBish's body to rest, and pay our respects to the life he lived."

"McBish was born far from here. He lived a normal life for many years raised by his parents he grew into a young man. Then he started to have heart attacks. He became scared and angry. He decided he couldn't live that life anymore. So he ran away. He ran for 6 years, occasionally going to new towns and staying there for awhile but in the end he wanted to be alone and not get close to anyone. That changed when he found the Town. He knew his time was coming to an end and he came here to die. He didn't want to die alone in the wilderness. He came into this Town and found much danger and strange things. But he also found great kindness."

She pauses.

Alena ruffles her wings and tears softly slide down her cheeks, she squeezes Alex's hand.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames blinks back tears, feeling the grief flowing from Natalie's mind.

[Atreyu the Masked LLama]

*atreyu trots up, his head hanging low and his tail drooped in sadness*

[Deadly]

Ilias appears in the back, listening sadly.

[McBish]

“When I first meet him he nearly killed me. I was a soldier of Fortunis, and I had caught him spying on the encampment. When he escaped I was injured and our healers didn’t have the magic to heal me. I thought I was going to die. But then he snuck back in to check up on me. He said he was worried about me. When I told him that I was dying he became upset and set out to save me. He snuck back out of camp and returned later with potions to heal me. He saved my life that night in more than one way. I snuck out with him touched by the kindness he showed me. If it hadn’t been for him I would have been in the doomed attack on the Town, and most likely would have died there.

I quickly feel in love with him and he did with me. But he was still dying. Even though he had seen powerful clerics there was no stopping this. But many helped delay it, and for that we were both grateful. In the end he did his best to make me happy, even though he was dying he showed no sorrow at this. He knew he had lived his life well, and in the end he wouldn’t die alone. He knew he had the hearts and minds of all his friends at his side. And even though he knew that it hurts us that he is gone…”

Tears can be seen forming in her eyes.

“Even though it hurt us that he was taken from us, it would have been worse if we have never known him. And for knowing him I am glad.”

She places a hand on the casket and whispers “I love you.” Then she steps down to let anyone else say something if they wish.

Alena looks over at Natalie, I didn't know him for long but he was a good man and I'm very sad that I will no longer be able to share music with him.

[Lord Iames Osari]

It was my privilege to have helped McBish; well before the arrival of the Fortunis army, he came to Trog's and announced that he was dying. I was able to heal him at that time, although his problem obviously made a recurrence. I am honored and gladdened that I was able both to prolong a life and allow a love as deep and genuine as yours to occur.

Alena puts one arm around Alex and leans her head on his shoulder.

[McBish]

((If no one else has anything to say...))

The casket is slowly lowered into the ground.

Tears start to roll down Natalie's face.

((If anyone else has anything to say, we can assume it happens before this.))

Alena silently watches

[Atreyu the Masked LLama]

*As the casket lowers, tears start to glisten off the wool near the llama's eyes and his mask is noticably damp.*

[Alex Shipmaster]

Alex puts an arm around Alena and holds her tight.

[Deadly]

Ilias watches in silence, wishing that he'll find peace wherever he is now.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames watches silently.

[McBish]

Alena extends one wing behind Alex and leans against him.

[Alex Shipmaster]

Alex gives Alena a quick squeeze and rests his head on hers.

[McBish]

Natalie lowers her head and looks down at the ground as the coffin comes to rest in the ground. "Thank you all for coming."

[Lord Iames Osari]

Don't mention it, Iames tells her.

Alena softly asks Natalie, Do you have somewhere to go? Our home is always open to you.

[McBish]

"I've been staying at Inari's. I think I might go back to Fortunis at least for awhile."

[Deadly]

Ilias bows slightly at the grave and the people around him, then fades away.

We will miss you Natalie, you are always welcome to visit us.

[McBish]

"Thank you." She takes a deep breath and looks up into the sky. "Do you think he is watching us?"

[Alex Shipmaster]

"From what my father has told me, he probably- no, certainly is"

[Lord Iames Osari]

Let me see if I can find out... Iames tries to figure out where McBish's spirit currently is.

Alena smiles at Alex and wipes her eyes with a hanky.

[Alex Shipmaster]

Alex faintly smiles at Alena and wraps her in a big hug.

[Atreyu the Masked LLama]

*the llama trots up and gives a comforting nuzzle to Natalie*

Alena hugs him back and wipes the rest of her tears on his shirt.

[McBish]

Natalie reaches out to pet the llama.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Yes, he is. Iames would hug Natalie too, but he doubts he could get to her.

[Alex Shipmaster]

Alex holds Alena tight and whispers to her "Are you doing ok?"

[McBish]

"I think I want to go lay down for awhile. Thank you for all the support, it means... it means a lot."

Anything you need Natalie, just ask.

Alena whispers back to Alex, Yes

[Alex Shipmaster]

Alex smiles faintly at Alena and gives her another hug. He turns to Natalie and nods "If you need a place to stay or anything we'll help."

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames goes over to Natalie and gives her a quick hug, then steps back with a gentle smile and disappears.

[McBish]

"Thank you. I think I am going to head back to Inari's now, I'm feeling a bit tired."

We'll see you later Natalie.

[NecroPaladin]

Namesake, the new clergyman, sighs, adjusting his gloves and making sure that his hood shadows every part of his face. Indeed, how considerably fitting to start his work in this place of heathens with a death, he thought to himself, coldly. Nevertheless, he has a duty to this man, and all who died righteous, and before their prime...and to protect the hapless dead from those who would befoul their legacies by returning them. Clearing his voice and trying to recall exactly how he spoke before he died, albeit though that was in an archaic dialect, he starts the rites. As the attendants wait to lower the poor remnants, he strangles out an icy,

"Yea! Though we do commend the body of this man to the earth, save thy fear. His soul suffers not the fate; he flies beyond our reach, and so bestows upon us all of the affection and loyalty that he so radiated in life..."

[McBish]

With a sad smile to everyone Natalie makes her ways back to Inari's.

Alena sweeps Alex off his feet, gets a running start and climbs up into the sky.

*The llama trots back to Alarra's, looking back one last time at the grave with sadness*

"...now and forever."

Namesake finishes his sermon with precisely the same tone and intensity of voice as before. He tilts his head back into the sky, enough to show just the slightest bit of the rictus-grimace of his jaw. I'm getting too old for this. If I even age anymore, he tells himself. But he knows his stay here is just beginning. He waves off the mourners, slings what resembles nothing so much as a small, blunt tree back over his shoulder, and heads for the town. For a moment, he thought that if it weren't for his physical nature, he might have cried.
