So, in my We're-All-Specialist-Wizards campaign, it looks like an upcoming adventure involves going somewhere with radiation poisoning (the plot hook mentions people coming back from the cavern dying of "mysterious illnesses"). I'm the Abjurer, so it's my job to protect people from this sort of thing. So what does a Wizard do to protect from diseases? Most of the spells I can find are on the Divine side of the great divide.

Suggestions?

If you have Wis 13 you can get Arcane Disciple (RenewalSpC), you can get remove disease as a 3rd-level spell on your list.

Second route, depending on party level, you might be able to prestige into Rainbow Servant and add Cleric spells to your list via scrolls.

If that's out of reach, I would say to ask your DM if they'd allow you some research time to devise a spell to reduce or protect against radiation.

The cured disease still doesn't fix the radiation source. I think he has bound an energy type to the damage and wants you to put up a ward against it. I would allow a spell research based upon "Endure Elements" to create a spell warding people from radiation for 24 hours.

Or heck, just do a high Knowledge (Nature) check and create hazard suits.

This is Pathfinder so those sources may not be available.

Pick up a copy Dragonstar, which has rules for radiation, including protective spells.
If you want to do it from scratch, first you have to decide what sort of mechanics you want to use. The easiest is to just treat it like a disease or poison, or perhaps energy damage.

Personally, I'd treat it as something between a disease (Fort STs to avoid ability damage, onset time, duration, etc.) and energy, but normal effects against poison or disease don't help. Maybe a refluffed version of Demon Fever (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/glossary.html#_demon-fever), with increased frequency and DC depending on how much radiation there is. However, since this is more akin to an energy effect, I would require something like Protection from Energy to help. If you want to go the easiest route, just say you can actually use Protection from Energy and decide how much damage each round the target takes from the radiation.
But you should be able to research a spell that protects against it, given that you have time to experiment.

Duh, I'm an idiot.

Thanks guys. I think this mission is going to come before I get a chance to level up, so build options aren't going to help (though they're good to know for the longer term). As for spells, I'll see what I can learn via Knowledge checks about the specifics of these "strange illnesses" and see if there's existing magic that will work or if I have to research something new. (Life Bubble might actually be enough, if it's more of an inhaled thing than actual radiation, and I already know that spell.)

Do people get Fortitude saves versus radiation sickness? If so, the Resistance line of spells should help.
