Familiar thoughts

Hey playgrounders!

Me and my DM are working on an expanded list of familiars, and wondered if anyone had any thoughts as to what the bonuses they grant should be.

We're adding
Fox
Falcon
Badger
Mole
Piranha

Falcon As hawk
Badger Honey or standard? If honey: Immunity to fear Normal: dunno
Mole 15' tremorsense
Piranha 1d4 bite attack

hmmm you're right

Mole +2 spot and search in total darkness
Piranha +2 to confirm critical hits? +1 to confirm critical hits? with piercing or slashing weapons

Honey badger bonus makes sense to me; albeit it is more like you are a honey badger's familiar than the other way around.

normal badger would probably be +1 to fort saves?

Falcon: +3 to Spot in bright light
Badger: +3 to survival
Mole: +3 to search
Piranha: +2 to confirm criticals (I like that one)

Honey Badger: Just take what you want.

Also the idea of the piranha rolling around is hillarious

There was a write-up in Dragon 291 for fox familiars... they had stats for it and gave the master a +2 to reflex saves.

Note that Parrot familiars are already in the game (Storm p52) and are the same as a Raven (speak 1 language, and give master +3 to Appraise).

According to the complete list of familiars these already have bonuses assigned to them
Fox (arctic fox, frostburn): +3 to move silently
Falcon: As Hawk (+3 to spot in well lit areas)
Badger: Dragon Magazine 352, +3 to knowledge (arcana)

Yeah but foxes already exist as well. And familiars can have multiple effects (monkeys, for example, offer two different bonuses)

Tarantula: +2 to Climb, +1 to Hide
