Ancestral Relic & Spiked Shield

Hello there once again,

I am playing with the idea to make a shieldbashing warblade and now I have stumpled upon something that is unclear to me.
How does Ancestral Relic work with a spiked shield, do you either choose the spikes as being the relic or the shield or does it work for both.

I'd say it works for both, but of course you have to pay separately. It's ambiguous, but I think the spikes and the shield still count as one item. Besides, it's not a great feat either way.

It aint a great feat but knowing my DMs, Im not going to find a descent spiked shield anywhere fast. Tho I might just sell my sell and replace the shield, can probably ask to have the spikes detached, atleast by a smith or something, and to be added to another shield.
