So, check it out... My DM says we should always have backup characters, just in case. Safe practice, no issues. My problem, I'm a bit of an altaholic, and sometimes forget which of my hundreds (literally, I make at least a character a day, and sometimes have a few percolating in my mind for a while) is supposed to be my specified backup. Not really an issue, except when my current character bites the dust and goes to the giant playground in the sky, and I need to fish out my other character sheet.

So, with the setup out of the way, here's the problem. I designed this character for another thread
CN Moon Elf / Half-Fiend

Battle Sorcerer 6/Sneak Attack Fighter 1/Dragonslayer (refluffed - Demon Hunter) 1/Unseen Seer 1/Daggerspell Mage (refluffed - Warglaives) 10/Abjurant Champion 1

36 Point Buy
Str - 14 +4(fiend)+2(Size) = 20
Dex - 16 +2(elf)+4(fiend)-2(size) = 20
Con - 14 -2(elf)+2(fiend)+2(level) = 16
Int - 12 +4(fiend) = 16
Wis - 10
Cha - 15 +2(fiend)+3(level) = 20

Feats
Otyugh Hole - Iron Will
1 - Dodge
3 - Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Warglaive)
6 - Weapon Focus (Warglaive)
9 - Two Weapon Fighting
12 - Combat Casting
15 - Craven
18 - Improved Two Weapon Fighting

with the premise that he starts out as a regular moon elf and then acquires the half-fiend template at around level 10. How would you guys handle, or suggest to handle, the sudden influx of powers (and ECL, and LA) associated with being a Half-Fiend (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/halfFiend.htm)?

Use the Savage Progression Template Classes (https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040319a). In fact, they even have a Half-Fiend Savage Progression (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20031010a) already statted out.

WoTC has got you covered with this nifty Web Enhancement (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20031010a)
It is LA that you take in lieu of a class, which gives gradual bonuses. Best part? You don't have to take it all immediately.

Edit: Swordsage'd

I could probably make that work, IC, by saying that, even though I'm granted those abilities, I'm still figuring out how to deal/work with all this newfound power... Thanks guys, that'll probably help out tons!

I feel like your DM probably won't let you play a character that's so obviously Illidan. :smalltongue:

actually, she will... under the condition that if extremely cheesy shenanigans happen, I might suddenly find myself trapped in a sealed cavern with a gelatinous cube and no way out...

edit: bee tee dubs, this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?347835-Video-Game-bosses-as-D-amp-D-characters/page5) is the thread, and it is Illidan.

edit2: her exact words... "All I'm saying is if I don't like it I'll just throw you into a pit of oozes from which escape is rendered impossible"

Her-All I'm saying is if I don't like it I'll just throw you into a pit of oozes from which escape is rendered impossible
Me- *cough* flight *cough*
Her- *cough*impossible*cough*
Me- lol
Her- You think I can't suddenly have a 20 ton slab of stone cover the opening? You underestimate me my love.
her- Plus... MAAAAAAGIC
Me- i think i get teleport at some point >.>
Her- Anti-magic field
Her- plus a bebilith
Her- And *expletive* just got real
Me- damage reduction, spell resistance, energy resistance
Me- i'm not trying to say you can't kill a 6th level illidan, not by any stretch, totes doable
Her- You betcha bottom dollar
Her- Pretty sure our current situation looks a lot like a duel between a Resto druid and a prot pally
Me- wait a second... i wouldnt actually be the half fiend illidan yet... i would at least be the B.Sorc6/SAFtr1/DemonHunter1/UnseenSeer1/DSM1
Her- 'Now you're looking more like a rogue caught unstealthed by a frost mage

A rogue has nothing to fear from a Mage, it's not like this is a fight where the rogue 'has' to engage ;)
