What is the best character you've played :smallwink:

That's..incredibly open ended, to say the least.

Best how? Best damage-dealer? Best healer? Best good fun times? Best theme?

If I had to choose a "best", based on how much fun and effectiveness it had, I'd have to either choose my Wood Elf Dungeoncrasher Fighter or my Neanderthal Rage Mage.

Either my Eberron Halfling Paladin or my Human Ninja. More than likely the Paladin, since the ninja was more fun in the group I played in as opposed to the actual character. Also the ninja probably gave the DM a smal indentaion on his forehead from repeatedly bashing his head against the table.

Probably the Wizard6/Swiftblade9/Spelldancer1/AbjurantChampion4. I was buffed up to the sky.

Yup, too open ended of a question.

If you just want the objective best class, I'd say my druid. He was a simple druid 13 build that could absolutely everything to the point of breaking the game. I retired him after seeing how much he was overshadowing everyone else.

Most balanced? My duskblade. He was a duskblade 15/lion totem barbarian 1/fatespinner 2/ marshal 1/something else 1. He could deal some damage, had some utility spells to him and was the party face due to his high Charisma and diplomacy. He was pretty balanced in our group of skillmonkey archer ranger and healbot cleric.

Most fun? My bard. I only got to play for a few sessions, but while the class did feel somewhat underpowered on its own, buffing allies (large table, we were 6 players + GM) and using Glibness combined with his maxed out bluff was stuff of legend.

Somebody complained a while back that archery took too many feats, and the only way to be a good archer was to be able to add spell effects. Here's the build I came up with in response.

(Note: The cheesy bonus feat swap may be RAW legal, but I recommend it only if you want to antagonize your DM.)

Race: Wood Elf (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/elf.htm#woodElf) (+2 DEX, +2 STR, -2 CON, -2 INT; Favored Class: Ranger). Alignment: within 1 step of Chaotic Good. You'll need to join the Order of the Shooting Star (see Champions of Valor). This build requires DEX 17 by the time you get to level 6 for Dead Eye, and DEX 19 later if you pick up Improved Precise Shot.

Cloistered Cleric 1 of Solonor Thelandira. Domains: Knowledge, War, Elf; gain Weapon Focus (longbow) and Point Blank Shot feats as granted powers. Level 1 feat: Precise Shot. Should pick up 1+ ranks in Knowledge (arcana) and 4 ranks in Knowledge (religion).
Mystic Ranger 1 (Ranger variant in Dragon # 336, page 105). Gain wild empathy, Track feat. Should pick up 5 ranks in Survival.
Cloistered Cleric 2. Level 3 feat: Far Shot.
Cloistered Cleric 3.
Mystic Ranger 2. Take Arcane Hunter ACF (Complete Mage, page 32) to get Favored Enemy: Arcanists. Gain 3 more ranks in Survival to get 8 total ranks.
Seeker of the Misty Isle (Complete Divine, page 61) 1. Gain Travel as bonus domain; convert this to Travel Devotion (Complete Champion, page 62) feat. Level 6 feat: Dead Eye (Dragon Compendium, page 95): add DEX bonus to arrow damage within 30'.
Mystic Ranger 3. Choose combat style: archery; this grants the Rapid Shot feat.
Mystic Ranger 4. Gain Endurance as a bonus feat.
Seeker of the Misty Isle 2. You'll now have BAB 6. Level 9 feat: Manyshot.
Seeker of the Misty Isle 3.
Seeker of the Misty Isle 4. Do the Dark Chaos Shuffle (Fiendish Codex I, pages 92 & 95) to swap Track and Endurance for

Sword of the Arcane Order feat (Champions of Valor, page 34): cast Wizard arcane spells in Ranger spell slots; and
Holy Warrior reserve feat (Complete Champion, page 60): add level of highest reserved War spell to weapon damage.
You'll now have Cleric 7 spellcasting, BAB 8, and can cast Ranger/Wizard spells at levels 0-2.
If you want to spread on the cheese sauce, this is where you would do the Dark Chaos Shuffle with the 4 Elf bonus feats
Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longsword, rapier, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats. and pick up Extend Spell, Persistent Spell, Divine Metamagic (Persistent Spell), and Extra Turning; persist Divine Power to keep your BAB up all day.

At this point you qualify to enter Arcane Archer, or you can continue with Seeker of the Misty Isle for more Cleric spellcasting plus other benefits of that PrC.

With Divine Power you'll be at BAB 11.
You'll add (DEX mod +1) to attacks, and (with a composite longbow) (STR mod +4) to damage. (The +1 is from Weapon Focus; the +4 is from Holy Warrior.)
Within 30' you'll add an additional +1 to attacks, and (DEX mod + 1) to damage. (The +1 is from Point Blank Shot; the DEX mod is from Dead Eye.)
You'll have 10 useful feats (or 14 with the cheesy sauce added), without flaws. If at some point you think you've got enough skill ranks in the various Knowledges, you can convert Knowledge domain to Knowledge Devotion for bonuses to attack and damage against the corresponding creature types.

Revan: LN Servant of Wee JasDeath(sister to and partner with the Lady of Life)
Lich Venerable Star Elf Necromancer 1 / Dread Necromancer 6 / Red Wizard 5 / Dungeon Lord 3

As dense flavor as the "Werebear Bear Warrior riding a bear Animal Companion while summoning bears".
Strong enough to build and defend a nation.
Easily balanced in the group.
Fun to play.

My E6 builds, I love them all. The challenge of making powerful characters within 6 level resulted in some awesome designs that were high on power. These are my top picks for flavor and awesome factor.

#1: Zhesue: A Gramarist (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?291019-By-the-Inferior-Science-of-our-Enemies-Gramarie-Mark-II) world crafting Dvati able to port in creations from his dreams(mostly biome generators). One twin in the dream the other in reality. Both twins made a few biome generators last night and now they get to send them through. Not great for combat, but awesome all the same. The biomes only have a 1% change to stick around for more than 1d100 hours, but still cool.

#2: Auran Arcana: SLA's, oh god the SLA's, up to 3rd level spells. He can cast 74 spells per day from any that he knows(total of 21) no matter the level, but must spend a standard action within 10 rounds after casting to make a will save or take a negative level(deadly at lvl 1). Also can't hit for his life whenever he casts, so area effects are preferred. Methodical Magical Methods and Arcane Fatigue help a little more to balance the sheer number and power of spells by expanding them to SLA's. -5 to hit with ranged attacks is pretty bad for a lot of spells and what wizard is good with fort saves?

#3: Damian Spellfire: Spellfire Wielding Living Spell (http://wiki.faxcelestis.net/index.php?title=Awakened_Living_Spell):Dancing Lights Chosen of Mystra. He can refuel himself with a little time which is nice. I really like that I was able to make an ok spellfire wielder. He can of course change form at will within the limits of dancing lights and the anthropomorphized Fax Spells, but most of the time I picture an Ethereal from World of Warcraft (http://www.wowwiki.com/Ethereal?file=Ethereal.jpg). I even found cloth armor for him to look more like an Ethereal.

#4: Shadow Pride: A ninja cat. Originally called Cheshire my brother wanted it to be a Kitty Pride reference instead. Shadow Pride can turn invisible and has a hide skill surpassing invisibility's bonus. Can of course sneak attack like a boss too and is considered automatically taking 5 on hiding at level 6 constantly. Can of course still roll for a better one, but passive stealth is cooler.

So far, it's been a Pathfinder Ranger 10, THF combat style, human, Guide archetype. Dude OWNS BBEGs, thanks to Ranger's Focus, and he's also a rockstar at diplomacy.

Jandar LeFey, an Exalted Warlock Sniper. Went all the way from 1 to ECL 22 (was Sainted by the Church of Kord). In that entire time, he missed perhaps twelve attack rolls.

Hm, i needed to switch out a character in a campaign (He just couldn't cut it anymore - he was a Minotaur-rogue - Always fun attacking with a monkey-gripped huge falchion screaming: SNEAK ATTACK)

But i just couldn't keep up with the Angels and the Wizard - i was handicapped by my size, lack of max skills and such. So i thought: Hm, i should keep filling the "rogue-skill-dude" niche:

Enter the Tiefling Factotum/Swordsage.

He is now Factotum 11 /Swordsage 2
Since we had a high Point-Buy for this game the MAD wasn't so bad, and IF you have the points those classes just click into something monstrous.

Two funny scenes:
Throwing a huge Fire-Elemental onto another. - Getting a few laughs out of the group (First for trying - then for succeeding - then for them picturing that impossible move) (Yeah, tripping is a str / Dex check.. so + int, +4 improved trip, +4 meneuver.)

Or the First round Alpha of: "Our Celestial scouting: Here are some Dudes riding dragons, help" - Me: (Invisible) - Move Action: Shadow Stride up into the room, Surge: standard Action: Polymorph into a 11-Headed hydra - Standard Action: 11 Attacks - all with Sneak Attack (Assassin's stance) - It was hinted by the DM that i shouldn't do that again.

So the Character is fun, is powerful, can do lots of thing and also cool roleplaying (I play him as the perfect mercenary - can't be arsed to do ANYTHING without a fair share - But he sometimes goes down to one Copper Piece - but there MUST be payment)

I recently fielded a character I would call "best" in that he was the most coherent realization of a concept I have made, while still being powerful in combat and hilarious to play.

Santos Nicholai, an Elf Pathfinder Witch Debuff/BC specialist. The Witch is basically a full Arcane caster, a God Wizard-type. Santos primarily uses winter-based BC effects (Sleet Storm FTW!!!). As a PF Witch, he also has a few at-will supernatural effects, nice party buffs, which he maintains using an ability called "Cackle."

Every round, for the entire day, he has to Cackle (as a move action) or his at-will party buff effects (an ability called Fortune which allows 1 reroll per round per person) will end and he will not be able to renew them for 24 hours.

So, overall, you have a pudgy elf who can fly, vanish from sight, teleport around the world, squeeze down tight spaces, and hand out "Presents" to his friends and "Punishments" to the naughty boys and girls in the form of brutal debuffs. He opens his battles by turning the battlefield into a raging winter storm, and he spends every moment of the day chuckling warmly. Ho-ho-ho!

I'd really love to play the character I came up with once.

Fireblood Dwarf Bard/Battle Dancer, who uses Dragonfire Inspiration with Perform (Percussion) for Castanets, which would leave him free for the Battle Dancer unarmed strikes.

In fact, I should figure out how to fully build this...

My Rouge/Assassin Skill tricked out, two-weapon fight, telling blow, Keen Rapier, his nickname coined by the Group was True love cause he kept trying to court the two Dragon Twins that highered us. He was LE but played more LN. Convinced the LG Monk with a INT of 7 (Played more like an INT of 3) to become his court jester and that his was the Nicest guy in the world. Created the "Hate No HUmans CLub" because our Elf Ranger was Racest as can be. Got to Death Attack and Kill a Gold Dragon (because the Dragon needed to sacrfise himself to save the world, so Naturally he stepped up to be the one to humbly Slay him). Oh converted the LG Gnomb "CW" Samurai to become his LE Samurai/Ghost Facekilla servant. He also became the main CHaracter for the second half of the year we played because the drow from another plain were invading his Brother's Kingdom (yeah he was a Prince on top of all that). Funnest Character ever!

either my extremely exalted through the a*s cloistered cleric. who has about 6 vows and was more good then the astral deva in the party who loved cultists and hated paladins . he was so fun to get around all the restrictions.

or it was my truenamer who just knew everything.

i am also enjoying my current non op build of throwing great swords and power attacking.

My Chordsage (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?338243-Chordsage!). Sadly the campaign just ended, and he's only level 12.

The first character I ever played. Halfling Warrior slinger in a system based on percentile dice set in Middle earth - I think it was MERP but I can't say for certain.

I was six years old.

He was glorious.

And I still have the character sheet.
