View Full Version : Avatar Theme Week: The Reanimation (25-31)

Ace Mace
2014-05-19, 09:01 AM
Hello everyone. Ace Mace here. You may not know me. I only recently joined the forums, but I heard about these avatar theme weeks in another thread. They sounded fun, and after some prompting from some other forum members, I decided to relaunch.

The first new avatar theme week will be May 25 through May 31. For this theme's week, I thought of no better theme to symbolize the return then...

REANIMATION

To participate, all you need do is have an avatar the in some way incorporates the idea of bring something back from the dead like this thread. The only limitations are that your avatar must be in some way related to bring something from the dead. This can be zombies, skeletons, Frankenstein's monster, cyborg body parts, mad science, necromancy, seven dragon balls, anything you can justify so long as it's reanimated.

Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

This one should be surprisingly easy for me actually.

It's unfortunate I ran out of green eyeshadow and do not have green facepaint though.

Hmmm, the hard part is /what/ exactly to do...

Also note, if anyone would like to request an avatar for this week I can help out. Keep in mind my art skills are not great though.

Huh. You know, I don't even need to change my avatar much. I mean, sure, Kyoma never tried bringing back the dead (at least not in that way), but all it needs it's a speech bubble and "IT'S ALIIIIVE!!!"

Maybe I'll do a brain in a jar, instead. Also, I may do the odd avatar for other people, but no promises.

I suggest moving the date a bit. It will take some time for people to get their avatars made and organize avatarists for those without Inkscape or other such means.

That'd be cool. I mean, who wouldn't love to see a brain in a jar avatar? Classic.

Oh, I read it as June. Yeah, I second that.

Half an hour of experimentation shows I cant' draw a non-terrible looking brain. I think I'll settle on Necromancy instead, skulls are easy by comparison.

Cool! Can I request one? It does have to be great quality. I was think of a zombie holding a mace. I'd like for the zombie to be raising the mace like almost in triumph. I also want the mace to be illuminated or with a possible lens flair. Basically I want the mace to appear very cool and impressive. A mace of high prestige. An ace mace.:smallwink:

I'd really appreciate it.

If we use an avatar made by someone else previously, do we have to get their permissions to use it for this contest?

It's... not really a contest. It's just a fun thing. Wear an avatar related to the week for that week. While there did come to be a vote for the best or most popular themed avatars at the end of the week, that was, again, just a fun thing. There is no real competitive component.

If you've got a Reanimated zombie avatar, go ahead and use it. The closest I have is Fullbladder cosplaying Danny Phantom by way of The Bushranger (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/member.php?31105-The-Bushranger) for one of the annual Halloween Dress Up As A Playgrounder Theme Weeks, so I'll have to make one.

I missed this, sorry. Suuuper sorry!

I still have some sketches from the beginnings of Ace Mace's request so no problem.

By phoenix down, do you mean like the Final Fantasy item or something else?

Do you have any preference for colour? Do you like zombies, vampires, or do you want something more cyborg-like?

Do you mind if it is not OotS style?

(Of course, if anyone fancies turning Naomi into a gothic vampire, it would be appreciated!)

(Also, if anyone remembers making that one for me, let me know. I think Musashi did it, but I really can't remember)

Actually, scratch the vampire idea. I have a better one.

Could anyone draw Naomi here:

Cool! Fullbladder, you're such a great artist! Do you by any chance do gifs? Not that I'm making a request, but I'd love to see this image but with the bats, cape, and vampire moving a little.

Again, not that I'm asking you to animate it. I just think it has a lively, animated feel to it.

This forum does not resize your image for you, sorry. You'll have to take it into any mage-editing program, from MS Paint to GIMP to Photoshop, and shrink it there. Then upload it again. Avatars can't be any bigger than 120x120 pixels.

Hah, I do my avatars in Paint.NET, and have never done any sort of animated anything!

Actually I mostly use a template anymore, just the head circle and the torso shape mind, and I use bits of older avatars for a few things, like the eyes. They're not super dynamic as a result. I like my avatars, I like seeing people wearing and enjoying ones I've made, but, like, I'm not Dr Bath or Crimmy or Ceika or anything. They're the greats. But thank you. I'm glad you like it.

And if it was animated, whoah man, it'd look super cool. But it's not and you can't use animated avatars here anyway. Man, come to think of it, I've done some that some really subtle animation would make amazing.

It would be nice to have a transparency option on his background, but I'll fix that later.

OK, the week's almost over and I wanted to say I've had a great time. There's been loads of great Avatars made and I've enjoyed them all, even Durkoala McPixelface, who will be resuming his position as my avatar. (thanks so much, Cuthalion, but if I don't change them over now, I'll probably never change my picture again)

So, what do we do now? It seems a shame to let this week end with a whimper, but I can't think of anything to discuss that won't turn this thread into a competition, which spoils the spirit of the week.

Perhaps you could copy the OP from the old Avatar Theme Week Central. Name it the next number, and we good.

How's this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?353280-Avatar-Theme-Week-Central-4&p=17557112#post17557112)? I tried to copy the original as closely as possible, but made some slight changes which I can change if people don't like.

This sounds like a lot of fun, and I'm be happy to make avatars for people. Only suggestion: could we decide the theme for each week several weeks in advance? My schedule is a bit wobbly, and I'd like more than a week's notice to start brainstorming my avatar.

There, problem solved.

Nice necromancer avatar.

I've never seen one like that before. :smallcool:

Rawhide, you stole my idea:smalltongue:.
It is a strange sight, a default avatar with a blue title. Really strange.

Well, the week's over now, so:

(does this count as finally making a real avatar for that one On Fire Week)

I'm just glad it wasn't also gender bender week. No idea what I would have done for that one.

well, back to my Yang avatar for me.

So, you're going to reanimate your old avatar?

Yes, quite thematic that is in fact. poetic even. she dies and then rises from her grave in seven days.

Me too. I'd have had to have tried to make a female vampire koala.

Glad to see the Yang Avatar is back, Raziere, I've missed it. Shepard was a good design, but I prefer Yang.

I think I'm going to stick with GLaDOS a while longer, I'm quite happy with her
