Hello everyone,

My DM disagrees with the way I calculate my sling damage. I play a halfling artificer with a strength score of 6. I infuse my sling with the bane enhancement. What would my damage be when I attack creatures that my bane qualifies for?

I see it as 1d3 -2 (str) which always results in 1. Then I add +2 and +2d6 for the bane enhancement.

My DM sees it as 1d3 +2d6 damage.

Which version is correct?

Thanks

From my limited knowledge, it seems that it would be (1d3-2)+2+2d6.

So the question is, is the final result 2d6+3 or 2d6+1d3?
I'm not sure, I'd do it your GM's way, because I sum all the modifiers before any dice are rolled.

Your DM is technically correct. You are saying 1-2=1, 2-2=1, and 3-2=1. Minimum damage is correct, but you take the sum of all damage before applying that minimum. So you can have 1-2=-1, then add the +2+2d6.

Your Strength penalty is not part of your actual weapon damage, it's a modifier to your damage just like the magic property of the weapon is.

1d3+2-2+2d6 is the correct interpretation.

Darn, but thanks for your responses.
