Lets Make stuff up: What makes Occular Adept so special?

So in faiths and pantheons occular adept is listed on the stat table of having something "special ".


Nothing is given to what this is suppose to mean. So lets make stuff up! What would be a good add on to increase the occular adept's usefulness as a PRC.

Beholder Companion (Ex): An Ocular Adept may begin play with a Beholder companion selected from the following list: beholder, death kiss, gauth, spectator, lensman, orbus, kasharin, astereater, gorbel, gouger, eyeball. If the campaign takes place wholly or partly in an aquatic environment, the following creatures are also available: eye of the deep. This beholder is a completely treacherous and unstable companion that accompanies the Ocular Adept on her adventures as appropriate for its kind.

A 1st-level Ocular Adept’s companion is completely typical for its kind except as noted below. As an Ocular Adept advances in level, the beholder’s power increases as shown on the table. If an Ocular Adept releases her companion from service, she may gain a new one by performing a ceremony requiring 24 uninterrupted hours of terrified, frantic prayers to the Great Mother. This ceremony can also replace a companion that has perished.

An Ocular Adept of 4th level or higher may select from alternative lists of beholders. Should she select a beholder from one of these alternative lists, the creature gains abilities as if the character’s Ocular Adept level were lower than it actually is. Subtract the value indicated in the appropriate list header from the character’s Ocular Adept level and compare the result with the Ocular Adept level entry on the table to determine the Beholder companion’s powers. (If this adjustment would reduce the Ocular Adept’s effective level to 0 or lower, she can’t have that beholder as a companion.)

Alternative Beholder Companions
An Ocular Adept of sufficiently high level can select her Beholder companion from one of the following lists, applying the indicated adjustment to the Ocular Adept’s level (in parentheses) for purposes of determining the companion’s characteristics and special abilities.
