Just a thread to be a galery that I can link to, considering all my art is in diffferent places across the interweb. I would be very happy for comments or critiques on any of it...

In addition, I have a webcomic called En Guard (http://enguard.smackjeeves.com/comics/).

I have to say that all your work is amazing (how long did it take you to do that book in blender?) but my favourite of all your artwork is the oots style stuff, especially the Inquisitor. The quality of your shading is amazing (you should join the avatar request thread) Also that Cthulu is damn cool, how (and why) did you come up with that?

Your computer skill(z) are unmatched I think on this forum, but Old One has you beat on hand drawings. Is blender an open source, and if so, how difficult is it to use?

Thanks for the compliments  - there are loads of good artists though, I don't think I'm the best :smalltongue:

Blender is completely free, open source software. Regarding ease of use, it is complicated to use: you need to learn several hotkeys to use it quickly, and it takes a while to learn all the features and techniques. Once you do learn how to use it though (which is fortunately fairly easy as there is a lot of documentation and tutorials available across the internet), it is both fast to use and powerful.

Here is an earlier post I made describing Blender:

I recommend Blender (http://www.blender.org), which is an open source 3D suite which can cover most things, including modelling, texturing/materials, animation, physics for both soft and rigid bodies, and rendering (with a reasonable built-in renderer and the options to use more powerful software such as the free YAFRay). This (http://www.blender.org/features-gallery/features/) features list explains in more detail. It is a very powerful application, and whether or not it is equal to other very expensive commercial 3D applications such as 3DS Max or Maya is a hotly contested issue.

A word of warning, however: it does take some time to learn. There are a very large number of tutorials, but the interface will at first look very daunting, and although there are buttons you need to learn a fairly large number of keyboard shortcuts to work quickly in it.

These (http://blenderartists.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27) galleries (http://www.blender.org/features-gallery/gallery/images/) show off Blender's capabillities. Alternatively, watch Elephants Dream (http://www.elephantsdream.org/), an animated short created entirely in open source software, mainly Blender.

Here are a few links to get you started...
The blender.org quickstart guide (http://www.blender.org/tutorials-help/quickstart/)
The blenderartists forums (http://blenderartists.org/forum/), which are the main site for the blender community.

Thanks for the compliments. Are there any areas (apart from shading) that I really need to improve, or any particular parts you like? Also, I know you said that you don't know, but if you could figure out what irks you about the Guardsmen I'd appreciate it. :smallwink:
