Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 431 through 440.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on June 4th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, :haley: 428 It Takes a Thief (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0428.html) walked away with the most votes after deciding to take the fourth option, instead of going for doors numbered one, two, or three.

While the characters in the strips that follows are facing each other as their creator intended, we have a much more civilized way to decide a winner. And that's by voting for the very best strip in.....

I predict that by a massive landslide, 439, Sexy Shoeless God of War wins.

Tough choice. I absolutely love #434 (the bit with the crown is just too perfect) but I'm gonna have to go for #439

:belkar:: I AM A SEXY SHOELESS GOD OF WAR!!!

Oh, wait - that doesn't contain any strip number and so :smallfrown: - so I think I should put a 439 Seeing Orange in there.

[PS: this is the first batch I voted before (re-)reading any of the strips - because since this is my all time favourite, there will be no strip I will put over this :smalltongue:]

Very strong batch - good comedy, silly fun and important moments for the PCs. Between 434, 435 and 439, I'll go with 435 - why isn't he jolly?????

#439: Seeing Orange, no question.

The other strips in this selection were good, but #439's gonna win by a huge margin, I can feel it. :smalltongue:

I am amused, as always, by MitD in #431, the scenes between Roy and Xykon are good, and I love Vaarsuvius's comment in spell resistance in #437. However, #439 absolutely wins here.

#440. The death knight's comebacks to the general are great. #434 deserves mention as one of the best Xykon moments.

435 Amoral Dilemma . 439 runner up, though.

Well, there do is 439.
But the real match to me is between 434 and 435.
And it's so hard that I'm saving my vote for now.

I'm gonna give some love to 432: Let Slip the Dogs of War. The coconut oil joke gets me every time.

Why isn't 435 jolly? Why isn't it jolly?!?!

Maybe it thinks it's jelly? :smallconfused:

:belkar: Saving a life, though regrettable, is a small price to pay for a whole lifetime of unfettered killing.

That being said, I put my vote on 435.

Maybe I'm miscounting, but amazingly, it seems 435 and 439 are actually TIED!

...No landslide here, it's actually a race! Interesting.

Unless I forgot how to count, the score is 6-6.

Well, while 439 does offer one of the most iconic moments in the history of the strip, Belkar's overwrought Planetar wins it for me.

435

The whole siege is one of the part i like more, there are so many fabulous strips, but this is a no contest. 439

#435 takes it for Belkars conscience.
434 was a close contender though.

Tough, but I'm going to go with 431 for the MitD.

Not for the first time, and not for the last, it looks like we have a bit of an upset in the Stick Awards. Still, first things first. Another strong set here, but even if my vote wouldn't set up a tie, 439 wouldn't get my vote. Oh, it's Iconic to be sure. But, actually, I prefer the joke about not getting XP at the end to the actual famous line itself. So I don't feel bad about not voting for it.

As for the rest, I like the V scenes more than most, I think. And I'm tempted to vote for one of them to break the third place tie. But, in the end, the brilliance of 435 wins out. It's hilarious on its own, but it also is one of the first main glimpses of Belkar growing as a character and not just some one dimensional one trick pony that tells jokes for a living. Sure, here it's Belkar choosing Pragmatic Evil over Instant Gratification Evil. But that he even stops to think about it is a pivotal point for the character. And it's a choice that will be revisited again, for much higher stakes a couple of hundred strips from now.

Plus, as I said, it is hilarious on its own. :smallwink: So 435 it is.

And with that....

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

:belkar: 435 Amoral Dilemma (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0435.html) is the winner this week. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
