I was wondering if anyone had a comprehensive list. My players are starting to make use of a lot of these spells and I want some of the enemies to do the same.

Seriously, you post this ginormous list but somehow it does not include Feather Fall? :smallconfused::smalltongue:

Feather fall is technically a "free action" usable whenever you could use a swift or immediate action.

Also not included in this list are the greater / lesser spells - in the fan site I used they lack entries for casting time because they cite "works exactly like".

The SRD calls it an Immediate Action spell though:

fair enough - just looks like the fan site took the phb version - in either case this is a word of advice for using fan sites - it can be great to quickly find things, but you should always consult the SRD or source books if possible.

Did Immediate Actions even exist in the PHB? I can't find it back in my book at the moment, heck I don't even see an entry for swift actions. That's probably why Feather Fall is listed different in the PHB vs SRD, weird. I guess I learned something today.

Edit: The D&D Glossary (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/glossary&term=Glossary_dnd_immediateaction&alpha=) says that immediate action come from Races of Destiny of all books. :smallconfused:
Same (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/glossary&term=Glossary_dnd_swiftaction&alpha=) for swift actions.

Edit2: 3 Books later...

Races of Destiny refers back to the Miniatures Handbook for swift actions and Expanded Psionics Handbook for immediate actions...
According the Miniatures Handbook Feather Fall is a swift action, so the spell got erratad twice when it came to casting time. :smalltongue:

Still I will proclaim Feather Fall is the iconic Immediate Action spell, being an immediate action before immediate action were invented.

Actually they first appeared in Miniatures Handbook - long before Races of Destiny came out.

Expended Psionics Handbook for Immediate Actions, only a couple of months before Races of Destiny. At least RoD listed its sources, EPH does not tell us that swift action were from the Miniatures Handbook and seems to claim they invented it. I do wonder why RoD is the listed source in the glossary though, but I am already way off topic, so I be quiet now about the history of immediate actions.

(Still that means no immediate actions in a core only game, hmmm...)

Races of destiny is the primary source for immediate actions, because for rules precedence, the most recent publication is the most precedent, like how if two spells appear in two different books, and one of them is spell compendium, spell compendium wins out, because it's the most recently released (the shiny new "errataed" one). That's why the glossary quotes RoD as the source, not because it came out in RoD first

RoD came out in 2004. SC came out in 2005. CM came out in 2006. Those two latter ones also include the immediate action.
