OK, so I was kicking around some ideas in my head and started to think of ideas for builds with weapon like spells.
But the biggest issue I find with having such weapon like spells is if they actually count as weapons for the purposes of certain things.
Notably:
Ranger FE only applies to weapon damage.
Kensai can only enchant weapons which you have weapon focus in (weapon focus is easy to get for spells so its not a problem).
I know some people will bring up the weapon like spells counting as arming the person to enable them to threaten and take AoOs, but thats not the same as being a weapon.
If anyone is interested I am trying to build a ranger / cleric who has a permanent darkfire spell and uses 2-3 levels of kensai to put mage bane and bane enchantments on the weapon like spell. On top of it I was planning to use bane spell. all this for 11d6 on an iterative attack usable at melee or range. Yes this is a horrible waste of cleric, but I'm just thinking of new ways to achieve certain goals.
