Hey folks. In the coming session the party will face some tough challenges, hopefully won't all die, and then there will be a transition to the second part of the campaign (We're running Wrath of the Righteous if that matters. Entering the second module). I'm looking for a background music for the phase of talks with NPCs, learning of their new objective, coming to some revelations about their own characters and such.

Ideally I'd like something to create an atmosphere, but not capture the main attention. In the background. If possible something fairly relaxed, but with hints of things to come (Ifthat makes sense?) The current situation will be that the PCs have just saved a big city, but that it had also suffered a great tragedy (most of it's people died). So something incorporating sadness and hope would be awesome.

Important- I will most likely run this in a loop for about half an hour to an hour or so, so it need not gyrate on the nerves.

I know I'm asking for a lot, but I thought trying to explain things can't hurt. :smalltongue: Feel free to suggest things even if they don't "fit exactly" to what I asked. You never know where you find your inspiration, right?

Any specific kind of setting?

You might check out Seirei no Moribito (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN-YfYRBgmM&list=PLC921CC00C6A14CDE&index=12). That whole show pretty much fits the description and the music is great.

The soundtrack to the movie Angels and Demons seems like it would likely work for what you've described.

If you search on YouTube you can find videos that are hours long with instrumental music or ambient sound.

I am starting to try and find collections of ones that can work. Maybe there is something in there you can use...or will at least point you in the right direction. I think there is one in there that is 4 hours of emotional music that may fit the bill:

Dungeons/Exploring (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAcXCsHRJ8hvTw_8m10jByn4DqY6aXTTr)
Towns/Settlements (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAcXCsHRJ8hu0l5bAiLtSbLCrYANLgoOY)

If there is a particular score/album you are looking for (ie. the Angels and Demons one mentioned above) you might be able to find all the track consolidated to one video somewhere on YouTube.

This playlist is set to private. Any chance of switching so we can take a gander?

Whoops...my bad. Originally just made these playlists for my personal use, but I figured they might be helpful.

Made it public now.

Go on youtube and search for Two Steps from Hell. They have all kinds of music from ominous background tracks to epic scores that will make you ready to charge into the Abyss.

The setting is Golarion. The time is after a devestating attack on one of the border cities surrounding the Worldwound if that helps. PCs are on their way to save the place from a greater calamity, but much loss and destruction had been done. Still, in all of the mayhem, there may be new hope! (That's the sort of atmosphere I seek to make).

The music you suggested sounds quite good! I'm still listening to it, trying to see which trecks I like best. Thanks!

The soundtrack to the movie Angels and Demons seems like it would likely work for what you've described. I've started listening to it as well. Not sure if it's what I'm looking for, but I'm checking. Little free time I'm afraid. :smalltongue: In any case, there might be some trecks there for other parts of the campaign.

You've got some good stuff there! A good resource! I will look it over when I have the time. I manged to sample some of it though, sounds quite interesting.

I know Two Steps from Hell quite well. They do a lot of great music which I use. I'm looking for something they less specialize in- a relaxing mood music with undertones of sadness and hoped mixed together.
Thanks for the suggestion though!

The Divine Divinity OST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoCELpXTumA&list=PLE227056841D08FBF&index=12)should fit quite well.

I have a playlist with albums that include titles like "A Hero Will Rise", "Archangel", "Elysium" and "Illusions". They're made by Future World Music, Two Steps From Hell (with cooperations), Jo Blankeburg and Thomas Bergersen. I think you should be able to find some nice songs for you among those.

If you're looking for a more mysterious feel, try Arcana.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgHeG42SNyo) piece from Conan the Barbarian might fit the bill. It's calm, melancholic and with a trace of hope for the future. In a similar vein but less sad would be this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whqeHLVmxUY) or that (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8h0WxbnRL4). In general, Poledouris has made a magnificant music score for this movie (among others obviously).

Witcher game series is also a good place to look for background music: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6uVeCzUhw0), 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKv0rtgI7mw).

Bloody hell, those are some fine scores. I think you captured what I wished to purvey with the 3rd Conan song- the atlantean sword. Fits vvery, very nicely. (Bloody thing almost made me cry. :smallamused: ) So thanks!
