Dose having a non human type/subtype apply the charteristics of that type to PC's or just NPCs?

in other words.... if a player's char gains outsider do they now have d8 hit dice?

only their racial hd would become d8s, and any racial hd they get in the future. Class hd stay the same. Only the undead type changes both racial
and class hd
