I seem to recall a magic item (I believe it was a wonderous) that was basically a force shield. It didn't cast the Shield Spell (though I think that was the creation spell), but it gave you a magical sheild that did not count against you for armor purposes (like if you're a monk) and it didn't take up a hand to use it.

Can anyone think of what it is? I have no idea what book I saw it in, and wanted to check with the Playground before combing through all of them when I might be imagining it.

Resolved. Ring of Force Shield.

Sounds to me like the ring of force shield
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/rings.htm#forceShield

An iron band, this simple ring generates a shield-sized (and shield-shaped) wall of force that stays with the ring and can be wielded by the wearer as if it were a heavy shield (+2 AC). This special creation has no armor check penalty or arcane spell failure chance since it is weightless and encumbrance-free. It can be activated and deactivated at will as a free action.

Moderate evocation; CL 9th; Forge Ring, wall of force; Price 8,500 gp.

Thank you, I thought it was in core, but I was convinced it was a wondrous, not a ring..
