In a future game (which won't happen for a while, but it is best to be prepared), I wish to play a Halfling who rides a dinosaur (like in Eberron, although the fluff is a bit different). I'm aiming to take levels in the Cavalier prestige class, and I noticed that the class offers Paladin Special Mount progression. This gave me an idea, and my question is this:

Would it be broken to have a dinosaur use Paladin special mount progression? Do you think it would need a feat or substitution levels, and is there an ability like this that already exists (and if so, in which book)?

It could count as the mount of a paladin of lower leve, like more powerful druidic animal companions do. LA dependent on the dinosaur, obviously.

DMG has rules and suggestions for other mounts for Paladins with the appropriate adjustments to the progression.
You could compare your Dinosaur to those.

It works just like Ikkitosen suggests.

Ah, thanks, I didn't think to look in the DMG. Now to figure out where a dinosaur would fit onto that table...
