I keep wanting to make a high level Illusionist, and I'm always so tempted to go into Shadowcraft Mage since it's such a strong class, but then the temptation is too high to just churn out Heightened Silent Images all day and end up being a Spontaneous Conjurer Evoker Wizard. Also I hate that you have to be a Gnome. I just don't like Gnomes.
So, what other PrCs make a really powerful Illusionist? A level dip into Shadow Adept is great for the feats that make your illusions harder to penetrate by stuff like True Seeing. Master Specialist is alright for four levels, but the other Esotericas aren't super amazing. Nightmare Spinner is too fear-based, and if I'm not using Dread Witch then it'll just get shut down by a lot. There are many good caster PrCs like Anima Mage or Incantatrix which could certainly help out an Illusionist, but don't add a lot of Illusion benefits in and of themselves. I'm thinking maybe Wizard/Beguiler/Ultimate Magus, I know that's a popular combo. But what else works?
