well as a thought experiment I thought I would ask how someone would do this in D&D so it could trap anyone except maybe the gods unless you can think of a way to trap them as well. I'm talking demon, devils, angel, any class combinations anyone you can think of to lock them up in this prison until death or even beyond.

Liberally use save reducers, and imprisonment (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/imprisonment.htm)

My preferred way of holding creatures is immersion in a pool of quintessence (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/quintessence.htm).

Creatures vulnerable to Wis Drain can be rendered permanently comatose by Allips (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/allip.htm). Just add on a Ring of Sustenance or something similiar to ensure they don't die of starvation while in their perma-sleep.

An Antimagic Field perfectly encased by a spherical Wall of Force inside of a Deeper Darkness effect is my personal favorite, assuming you don't have Chosen of Mystra or Incite Magic running around.

It's not truly possible. You can't prevent someone outside of the prison from Wishing the individual out of the prison.

Isn't there a truenaming whatzit that thwarts that by effectively changing the creature to another and then one can take other measures to keep that creature's identity from being found out?

I dunno... Imprisonment explicitly calls itself out as being Wish-proof. And that clause of Wish is blocked by SR. If you could give the creature sufficient SR/Magic Immunity (transform/mind swap it into a golem, say), that ought to stop the Wish-freedom bit.

Eberron has the Dreadhold, an ultra-high security prison. Its deepest dungeons hold flesh to stone'd demons surrounded by antimagic fields. Dragon Magazine #344 has a very nice article about it, including ways to go about a prison break.
