Hello, Playground.

I have a question pertaining to the wording of "ability checks".

There is a feat in Bastards and Bloodlines that grants a +3 bonus to all Wisdom checks, but explicitly states it does not apply to Wisdom-based skill checks. Does this mean that this +3 bonus would increase the DC of a spell?

Thanks

Depends, how often do you make a check for your spells?

Offhand I cannot think of anything that requires a wisdom check.

Ability checks are those where you add the ability score modifier only under normal* circumstances, thus saving throws, skill rolls, attack rolls are no ability checks.
Strength checks to break something are the classic example, but the most common ability check is the Initiative roll which is a Dexterity check.

Since you do not roll and add your stat modifier to set the DC of a spell, it is not an ability check and is unaffected by this feat.

Seriously I cannot think of anything that is a Wisdom check which makes the feat seem useless unless it has other effects as well.

*Feats and class abilities are not normal circumstances so they do not invalidate this breakdown.
