It seems you can put on the "Flaming" buff on a Great sword for only 350gp or so.
This seems way tto cheap, doesn't it? Is there something I'm missing?
Is the enchanting system really as simple as it looks?

There are three steps you have to take to get Flaming on a sword.

1: Start out with a Masterword sword - this adds an extra 300gp price to the cost of the weapon.
2: Enchant the weapon with a +1 enhancement bonus. This costs 2000gp for a +1.
3: Enchant it with Flaming, which costs an additional 6000gp (because the weapon is now a +1 flaming weapon, or a +2 equivalent).

The total cost of a flaming greatsword is 8350gp.

You can also use a swift action and a first level spell slot. Of course that only lasts for one round, barring persistomancy shenanigans.

For 3k you can slap a weapon augment crystal on a +1 sword
which makes the cost 7k rather than 8.

and there are a number of oils etcetera that can imitate the flaming property temporarily.

This makes so much more sense.
I wish the tables at the DMG would explain this stuff better.
Is there a thread explaining this in more detail somewhere?

Try the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicWeapons.htm). Out of curiosity, how did you arrive at your 350GP figure?

The table said Flaming is +1, we saw +1 bonus next to the greatsword at the common weapons table, and we made 1+1 (get it?) and figured it costs 350gp on a Greatsword.

There is no "+1" next to greatsword on the DMG or the SRD
there is a superscript 1 over "weapon cost" which redirects to the footnote saying: "Add to enhancement bonus on Table (7-9): Weapons to determine total market price."

The weapons table there shows the cost of the weapon itself. Scroll up a bit on the SRD, there's your table that shows the cost per +X total.

Yeah, I get that now thanks to the SRD.
Thanks!
