So, my party is about to start on a march to lay siege to a demon's city (Sword of Valor Paizo module. Wrath of the Righteous AP). There are going to be a few tense mass combats on the way, and the siege itself. I'm looking for some appropriate tense music to put on those. Any suggestions? Please no 2 Steps From Hell, Those are reserved for different situations. :)

So far I'm thinking of using some of the tracks from The sound track of the movie Braveheart. This piece for example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNLfNezFqNk&list=PL11CE7C115B111B7F&index=10) (If a bit Scottish sounding :smalltongue: I have my issues with the movie, but the soundtrack is bloody amazing.)

And for marching and planning I found This Blackmoon Chronicles piece (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDGcerrBDFk&index=7&list=PLF120EBCE7906D837)

Looking for more! What do you say?

For when engaged in the brutal siege itself: Tchaikovsky's Marche Slave (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5poSw7tFLB4).

For when the bombardment begins: Tchaikovsky's ever-appropriate 1812 Overture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbxgYlcNxE8) (skip to 2:30 if you're eager for it to pick up, 12:00 if you're eager for the famous part).

For when battle is joined in earnest: John Williams' Duel of the Fates (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzVBqBosf5w) from the Star Wars prequels.

I'm not sure, which should go for marching and which for the battle, so I'll throw those in as is:
1. Letzte Batallion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_bNGd6Jx6M) from Hellsing Ultimate. The whole soundtrack is nothing but bombastic and grand in scope, but some of it would clash with your choices due to more modern feel.
2. Basil Poledouris as always has many choices to offer: Turbulence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3cL0Y2oE4k) from Hunt for the Red October or Battle of the mounds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LckJTjGtz2M) and Riders of Doom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lKUYAnqxjU) (this one is a bit of a slow starter) from Conan.
3. There was also an excellent score to a local historical epic around my parts. The composer was Krzesimir Dębski an the music goes like this: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr0JpYal2u0), 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0drHclGf0oE), 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FS-gNL1qls).
4. Immediate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3Su4zkLIcg) music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98qrtCRnMuQ) is always a solid choice, but they feel a bit generic so to speak.
5. An old anime called Vision of Escaflowne has a few pieces with proper flare composed by none other then Yoko Kanno: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_49H_N43jQ), 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVdMQUrYlk4).

"The Trooper" and possibly "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden could work, if you want something not so classical.

Well this guy (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVIig7ceMjt7k9vylTsGpiw) does a lot of great mixes and extensions. Check out the videos/music marked GRV music.

A few more specific selections of his...

Fallen Army (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIDHYqE0Jg4)

Rise and Fall of an Empire (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRf6Rd5gYJ0)

Both of those are from his early mixes, but still pretty good in my opinion.

Lacrimosa & Preliator (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXAdZl6Fgas)

Legion[Extended RMX] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfJ1d8I5Hyc)

For the Cause[Extended RMX] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34SEoEGSrYE)

Just to name a few.

Also, I remember when first reading through the AP that I thought Harry Gregson-Williams' The Battle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEEuunm6OEY)(From the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe) as well as certain tracks from the Kingdom of Heaven soundtrack, such as Crusaders (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiRd0WB41l4) would work well with it.

Hope some of that helps!

If you want something that sounds classical and metal at the same time, you could try some songs from the Wagner Reloded album by the Apocalyptica chello quartet, although some of them aren't so dark.

Why has no one linked the Hell March (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-gI_pFog0)?

Red Alert 2?

That was a favorite of mine back when I played it, but I'm not certain how well is goes with the theme present. :smallconfused:

Though I do love Tchaikovsky, I don't feel it quite fits the mood in this particular campaign arc, but perhaps in one to come later. I will keep those in mind. Duel of the Fates will probably distract wo members of my group who know the movies too well I think...

I like the Conan tracks, mostly for marching and prepping for the battle. it fits the theme of the campaign quite well. The music from Ognjem J.Mjeczem is cool, but feels a bit over dramatic and play style for what I try to inspire. Though now I want to see the play! :smallwink: I also liked the pieces by Immediate music. I think I will may Incorporate between other tracks, give things a bit of a mix.
Thanks!

"The Trooper" and possibly "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden could work, if you want something not so classical. I listend to those, too heavy metal for the thteme I'm trying to create.

There are some good tracks there, which I need to explore more. THey seem to have a fairly slow build up (1-1.5 minutes in most), so they can work ideally for building up tension as a battle begins, or perhaps at the command tent before a serious battle. I'll need to make a more thorough examination when I have more time. Thanks a lot!

Total Annihilation OST:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnuCwl6zeQY Hmmm, they are cool ,but they are a bit too fast paced and have a LOT going on in them, which may be a bit too distracting to my group.

Why has no one linked the Hell March (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-gI_pFog0)? I never played the game (Stupid other stuff to do!) But two of my players had, and thoroughly, so that will distract too much as well. Nice piece though.

Speaking of Yoko Kanno music, there is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdzyZO3fbDY). The intro is a bit lengthy but listen to the track fully. The buildup is great.

You probably can see it, since it's a movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0128378/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1). By the way, the same composer wrote for example this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn7NutK4i9g).

It will be hard to find something matching the Conan soundtrack, but how do you feel about Vangelis? More precisely Mythodea (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyvWihXamxc) and Bounty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cuu9E5BZISc&feature=related).

There is also the magnificent theme from The Last of the Mohicans (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ac80QeQ-yM).

Awesome music! Thanks for introducing me! But not quite what I look for in this campaign arc.

Well, if that isn't what you're looking for, you could try some music by the Diablo Swing Orchestra (no relation to the game). Not sure if it's quite what you want, but it sure is different than Apocalyptica...

*Starts singing, sotto voce*

Do you hear the people sing, singing the songs of angry men,
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again.

*Slowly crescendo*

When the beating of your heart echos the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start when tomorrow comes

The dream cast in concert, preferably, though the movie version works too.

I'm only posting because no one has yet mentioned that one from Dr. Strangelove (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_d7wa0cxDU).
