Tent
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 2
Components: V,S,M
Casting Time: variable, see text
Range: close (25'+5'/2 levels)
Effect: one structure
Duration: variable, see text
Saving Throw: none
Spell Resistance: no

This spell creates a temporary shelter to protect the caster from the elements. This size, duration, and composition of the shelter depends on the time spent casting the spell:

1 round: the spell creates and sets up a normal tent that lasts for 1 minute per caster level.
1 minute: the spell creates and sets up a 10' square honey leather tent that provides the occupants a +4 bonus on checks to resist the effects of inclement weather. It lasts for 10 minutes per caster level.
10 minutes: the spell creates and sets up a 20' square hut that grants a +3 bonus to protection level against heat and cold and a +4 bonus to survival checks to resist the effects of weather. It lasts for 2 hours per level.
1 hour: as the 10 minute casting time, but lasts for 24 hours.

Shelter
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 2
Components: V,S,M

This spell funcions as Secure Shelter, except that it does not include the alarm, arcane lock, or unseen servant benefit options.

Material Component: A square chip of stone, crushed lime, a few grains of sand, a sprinkling of water, and several splinters of wood.

Just wondering what you all think. Shelter's not as good as rope trick, but it almost seems better than tiny hut. Rope trick IMO is ridiculous anyway, so let's compare to tiny hut:
Pros: has furnishings, physically bars creatures from entering.
Cons: no magical temperature control, 20' square smaller than 20' radius, longer casting time.
Seems weak enough for 2nd level, I miss anthing?

Now, the tent spell is more problematic. I based it off of the exiting items honey leather tent and portable hut, but the heat/cold protection granted by the full spell makes it possibly better than the Shelter. It protects better against weather, but it's not as strong a defensive structure. Opinions?

On a semi-related note, what happens when you shadow conjure a shelter?

Has somebody been playing an early Final Fantasy game lately?

Seriously, good ideas for low-level, utilitarian spells that NPCs & PCs alike can use. One thing, though. Shouldn't Druids get access to these as well? They're outside much more often, & at beginner levels, they need protection from elements just as badly. Druids don't always sleep on rocks. Tent could even be an orison. At the very most, a Drd 1 spell.

Druid shelter spells:
Bath of Mud (Why not?)
Rain Shower (Again, why not?)
Living Enclosure (Sleep in a tree!)
Bed of Moss (Comfy)
Canopy (Tree blocks all rain)
Clearing (Opens a small clearing)

Weirder:
House of Vermin (A creepy tower of bugs?)
Thorn Sphere (Nobody will want in)
