Hey Giants,

I'm DMing a group of pretty new D&D players on Wednesday or Thursday nights (depending on when we can make it) and lately, the group hasn't been able to get together just due to work and other commitments.

Because of this, they wanted to make sure the majority of the group was there to play the main story, and when they aren't, thought it would be nice to run a few 1 night stories.

Thing is, looking at the internet, there doesn't seem to be a large amount of these, so I was wondering if y'all had ideas for one night stories that the players can go through in a few hours.

I'm thinking it would start off with intro in the first hour, building up the plot in the second hour, and then resolution (probably a big fight) in the third hour.

I can set up the adventuring guild/meeting up in a tavern hook, but am drawing a blank for stories. Have any of you done any one shot stories, or been part of a campaign that was suppose to go a long time, but ended up stopping in one night, but still had a good time anyways?

Links in this thread. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=17639354&postcount=3)

While they are not all one-shot adventures, there are quite a few and you could always chop up a multi-session adventure. I'm planning to run a pirate game with a bunch of one shots including:
Treasure Hunt (level 0)
Wreck Ashore (level 1)
Wormwood Mutiny (level 1-4)

Possibly some one-shots after this.

I find that the Pathfinder society stories are good exactly for this. They differ in levels and are usually pretty short, but can be fairly interesting.

I recommend The Forge of Fury, just finished reading through it and it seems like it would be a lot of fun, its 3.0 so you need to do a little updating but nothing to crazy.

I would study up on 5-room dungeons. It's a good format, and many people have posted their dungeons on the internet.
Just google it, but the idea can be found here: http://www.roleplayingtips.com/readissue.php?number=156#1
or download some adventures here: http://www.roleplayingtips.com/5-room-dungeons/

Thanks giants! :) I've downloaded Wreck Ashore from one of the links above and have been reading through it.

There's also the simple "100 Adventure Ideas" from the DMG if you want to make something up yourself. It does require some adjustment if whatever you choose or roll doesn't make sense for your world, but they all seem easy enough to pull a story out of.
