Each and every tribute has now arrived at the Capital. Following an extensive cleaning and preparation, you're rushed to your own personal stylist. Taking your measurements with both speed and precision, they produce a wardrobe themed to what your district is known for.

From the stylists chambers, you are escorted down to a large chamber, filled with commotion. Twelve chariots are arranged in a crescent shape, each bears a stylised rendition of the twelve different district symbols. Once mounted in the chariots, you are lead down a long road flanked by vast stands, filled with cheering capital citizens.

Post (In no particular order), what your outfit looks like and how your character holds themselves during the ride. When everyone has posted, President Snow will address you and then I will compile this into a post on the hunger games channel.

District 4 gets the old merman/mermaid treatment. No shirts, just body paint and fins. Ianthe at least has the sparse modesty offered by her seashell brasier, although there was talk of doing without it. Her hair is styled down loose over her shoulders with shells and seaweed arranged in it. Thestor is relatively lacking adornment. Ianthe thinks that the whole merfolk thing may have been done to death. but at least the stylist this year made them look real unlike the usual costumes.

Ianthe holds her head up while looking into he crowd, making her smiles seem to go to individuals rather than just the mass of people. She waves enthusiastically, especially to small children. Thestor on the other hand stands a bit stoically. He isn't smiling, but he does concede to wave at the crowds.

District 5 is a place known well for two talents. Power production, and magic, particularly experimentation. Something their chariot shows more this year than any year, with one of the reaped a mage, and the other one who worked in the power stations.
And they were dressed to show it off. The man, Alex Magesong is dressed as the stereotypical mage, gray robes with pointed hat and all, a short staff in hands which he beats rhythmically on the bottom of the chariot, a bowl of glowing liquid much like a lamp changing color to the beats. The woman, Hayl Levit dressed in a provocative version of her old uniform, one hand on a unnecessary turbine that was attached to a over-sized lightglobe, that shone with a [not too] bright white light.

Hayl had a smile plastered on her face, looking for the life of her like she was having a ball, while Alex dourly stares about. Eventually her hand takes his and she holds their arms aloft to the crowd.

District 6 looks rather more ridiculous than usual. Even with the height boost of a convenient box, Liss doesn't come up to Antogg's shoulder. She looks like a doll, dark eyes wide and red curls draped over her shoulders. Her gown is old-fashioned and looks like an extension of their chariot as much as anything else. A wheel forms an elaborate and oversized collar around her neck, and her long dress is the same color as the chariot. There are rectangular windows running down the length of it, showing the silvery cloth underneath and tiny appliques peering through each one. Her sleeves are translucent and slashed, fluttering at the slightest breeze. They flap madly from side to side as Liss leans this way and that, beaming widely and waving at all the cameras, even blowing one a kiss with a mischievous smirk.

District 9: grain. The typical outfits involve gaudy amounts of wheat plastered all over in a modpodge that a five year old could design, but the designers decided to be a tad more dramatic this year, Solomon dressed in an outfit reminiscent of the Grim Realer, whilst Camile is dressed as Demeter, or another goddess of the harvest. Solomon is put into a grey-black hooded cloak. He has a large (albeit dulled) scythe familiarly grasped in his hand, which is cocked to the side, the cold metal of the shaft sitting in the curve of his thin fingers, deadly steel of the blade arcong down in front of his face. The hood of the cloak is pulled loosely over his head; it sits just far back enough to allow the audience to see his face whilst still throwing shadows onto his face.

Camile is dressed provocatively, but not for the sole reason of sex appeal. She wears a dress befitting of a goddess of the harvest, a mix of light tan and greens, covering only what it needs to. The seams of the dress, rather than being hidden, are accentuated and make the whole dress draw to mind the image of a field of grains. She wears a laurel wreath on her head.

They stand on a chariot with a well-concealed lighting system, and as they move past the crowd, darkness seems to erupt from Solomon and white and green light shines from Camile, mixing and swirling to form a yin/yang symbol before dissipating into the Capital air.

Solomon is wearing his trademark smirk on his face, and he waves to the crowd, occasionally spinning his scythe in his right hand before bowing. Camile appears warm and friendly, and waves to the crowd in a seemingly genuine manner.

District 12, the district known for miners and the impoverished, got a grand, if grim, introduction. The tributes were ushered forth on the back of two coal-black nightmares attached to a chariot seemingly carved of old driftwood and lashed with bands of black iron. Atop this chariot, Lox stood sneering, ashen smoke pouring from between his teeth, gushing out in gouts as he threw his head back in cackling laughter, shaking his manacles which shot out from beneath the sleeves of his tattered grey cloak, which was cinched about his waist to accentuate his emaciated form. The female tribute, dressed prettily enough in a trailing dress covered in so many gems and precious metals that the original fabric was lost in the mosaic, merely stood quietly staring at the floorboards as though awaiting execution.

Near the end of the line, District 11. The female tribute, Trefoil, is dressed as some sort of forest spirit, or a goddess of plants. The skirt of her dress appears to be made out of various leaves and flowers, which, upon closer examination, are approximations of those of various edible plants. Her dark hair flows loose over her shoulders, and two small antlers sprout from her headdress.

Trefoil stands straight and tall, but seems to be unfocused from the parade and what is actually happening. As the chariot is pulled out, a hint of a smile appears on her face, and remains for the rest of the ride as she gazes out across the crowds, though she appears to be focused on something else beyond them. She doesn't wave, but partially lifts her hand as the chariots approach the podium.

Jibril rode out on the second chariot, her hair flowing out behind her. The final out fit chosen for her was a beautiful set of Valkyrie armor, small feathery wings sprouting out from he back and on the helmet on her head. The stylist hadn't done the usual goal of provocative clothing and went for a much more elegant look.

As she moved down the street she look out to the crowd, not waving, but smiling, and not the crazed smile she showed at the reaping but the prettiest one she could find. Hoping to earn the affection of someone out there. When the reach the podium Jibril bowed her head to President Snow for a brief moment and then lifted it again stairing straight at him.

Almost in contradiction of Jibril's smooth and polished appearance, James was rough and craggy. His artist had gone with a more exposed look than Jibril, but you wouldn't really be able to tell. A combination of prosthetics, paint and colored contacts made him from the slightly lanky looking youth that had volunteered, into a man that looked carved from the stoneworks that were centralized in District 2. Jibril might have been elegant, but even with his short height, James looked imposing. He tried to match Jibril's smile, but just ended up grinning that stupid grin of his. Much like her though, he didn't take to waving at the crowds.

Leading the line of chariots, was District 1. Goelev and Athena stood on a chariot seemingly made out of gold and silver, making it shimmer brightly and stand out, arguably too much. Goelev was dressed in fine Dwarven robes, with a helmet that had two gold horns protruding from the top, and he wielded a finely engraved battleaxe as tall as himself in his hand opposite to Athena, resting the bottom on the chariot. It had to be made clear that the 4ft figure that looked way too fat to be a halfling or gnome was in fact a dwarf, and the outfit made sure of that. Athena was also dressed in matching robes, but without the dwarven theme.

Neither tribute even attempted to hold hands, but both waved to the crowd enthusiastically, attempting to portray confidence. It is hard to see Goelev's huge grin under his big ginger beard, but the vigorous waving as high as he could reach was enough to show his apparent joy at the head of the pack.

My district has decided elegant Top-Hats are the way to go,combo'd with some tastefully appointed evening wear, Chester looks particularly... Marvelous

The lass is enjoying the spectacle, taking in the varied sights and loving the sheer panoply of it all. Chester is grinning a toothy grin sketching elaborate bows in the chariot.

Sheila tried to wave and smile as much as she could but she realized no one was likely to care what the people in the chariots were doing. It was all about the costume and how much confidence you had. She stood as straight as she could in an aggressive stance.

Here is what their costumes look like only a much brighter green.

Odath Fergusson, District 7

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080602201434/forgottenrealms/images/d/d0/Wild_elves.png

This is ridiculous... He would only grumble inwardly. Outwardly, Odath had been instructed to thrust his chest out grin on, and otherwise affect as much confidence as he could in his silly outfit. If it could be called that. They hadn't even given him shirt.

They fitted him with some leather half shirt thing which only went around his abdomen and showed off his muscular form, only covering his sides. He wore emerald gauntlets which covered his hands down to his elbows and some other part that only covered his neck up until his shoulders and pectorals. Next, the extremely constricting undergarments, which were after covered by a skirt made of some very fine quality fabrics in green and splashes of brown. The worst thing however, were the branches that were sticking out of his shoulders and arms. Christmas Trees don't even look this dumb he thought. He wanted out of this situation, but he couldn't figure one out that would prevent him from going to jail or worse.

District 6. Transport. Antogg could not get how the stylists were able to find something for him to wear relating to his district's specialty but there he was on top of the chariot.

The half orc stood right up in his suit. It was nothing as special as the other districts but it was good. Simple like one of those chauffeurs in the pasta. As form fitting as it was, it able to show the body his entire race was known for and with his arms crossed he was able to bring out the appearance he was going for even more. Not intimidating, just serious. That discussion in the train with team District 6 was fruitful when he thought back to it. As soon as the reapings were shown, Antogg knew that District 6 would stand out because of their abnormal size pairings...

And if Liss wants to make all the friends, do all the talking, Antogg was going to let her do it. He was smart enough to know his own abilities and talking to people, making them want to help him was not one of them which was why he stood behind the halfling. Like a bodyguard or...maybe just another follower. Better if Liss took more of the attention off him and did all the talking.

The chariots ride in line, starting with district 1 and leading all the way back to district 12. The ride is a bit extensive, as the horses lead the 24 of you down several long roads. Giant view screens are scattered about, showing the 24 of you up close. The entire way, the sides of the road are packed tightly with capital citizens. The cheers are so loud that it feels like every one of them is screaming at the top of their lungs. They applaud. They cheer. They throw flowers at you. But each one of them looks at you with a odd sort of obsession.

After what seems like a long time, the chariots finally arrive at the end of a road with a huge stage towering above. The horses are so well trained that they automatically branch off into two rows of tributes. When all twelve chariots have finally parked, the crowd finally begins to quiet. Atop the stage, you can make out a older man who appears powerful simply by his walk to the podium.

Drinking a potion, he speaks out and his voice booms so loud that all of you can hear him clearly. It is President Snow! His speech is short and sweet.
"Welcome... Welcome...
Tributes. We Welcome you.
We salute your courage and your sacrifice.
And we wish you... a Happy Hunger Games.
May the Odds be ever in your favor."
With that, the crowd cheers loudly once more. President Snow gives a wave, and once more the horses begin to move. Your next stop being the skyscraper where you'll be staying.

The parade has finally ended.

The next day you are taken to the training building. Inside is a large sized gymnasium. Spread about are over a dozen different 'stations'. Each one contains a different element of training. Melee Weapons. Thrown Weapons. Ranged Weapons. Climbing. Fire Building. Camouflage. Poison Making. Edible plants. Starting a fire. Etc.

And of course, the other 11 district Tributes are all here as well. They have been dressed in the same generic black outfits with green trim. Like cattle you have been herded together in one place. Nearby over a dozen peacekeepers stand at the ready, watching your every move. And overlooking the gymnasium is a sky-box. There a large group of capital people have gathered, sitting comfortably drinking fine wine and judging your every move.

Pushing through the peacekeepers is a tall man, well over six feet tall. His hair is buzzed short, his muscles bulging, and a scar goes down the side of his face. With a strong and loud whistle, he calls everyone's attention and gets an immediate silence.

http://www.fitzness.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/stephen-lang.jpg
Barking like the former drill instructor that he is, he begins to speak to the Tributes. "Listen up Tributes! In two weeks, 23 of you will be dead. Only one of you will be alive! If you want to be that one, you need to pay attention to what I am about to say!

First off! There will be no fighting with the other tributes. If you try and fight with them, we will put you down. Hard! There will be plenty of time to kill each other later.

There are going to be four compulsory exercises. The rest will be individual training. I suggest you don't ignore the survival skills. Everyone idiot wants to grab a sword. However statistically the fact is 10 percent of you will die from infection. 20 percent from exposure or dehydration. And that is in terrain that isn't hostile. They will chew you up and spit you out just as easily as a blade!"

The first exercise is simple sparring. Each of you is paired off with another tribute that is similar of size. You are given a hard foam weapon sword. You spend an hour functioning with the foam weapons, attempting to block your opponents strikes while they attempt to block yours. Instructors walk all around, watching your progress and giving you pointers.

Proficiency is irrelevant in this test.
Those with a BAB of +0 perform poorly. Those with a BAB+1 perform moderately. Those with a +2 BAB perform excellent.

The second exercise is just as exhausting as the first. An obstacle course has been created. It starts with two laps around the jogging track, followed by dodging through tires, and climbing over obstacles.

Make a DC 12 fort Save. Failing gains you the fatigued condition.

If you can make a DC 15 Jump Check (Acrobatics), you may add 2 to this check. Failure reduces your save by 1 as you trip and hit your face.

If you can make a DC 20 Climb check, you may add 4 to this check. If you fail, you reduce your save by 2 as you fall off a rope.

You may take 10 on the skill checks.

You can make your rolls in your personal IC if you like, and translate the results into posts here.

Alex picks out Thestor for the sparring, His bladework is unskilled, but every now and again he'd pull off a feint that'd allow him to land a solid blow on Thestor... But it's clear who'll end up with the most bruises by the end.
And those aren't the last of the bruises, as he trips over things and fails horribly while climbing. However his pacing means that by the end of it despite being red and bruised, he appears only slightly puffed... Throughout the entire time he has perhaps said 5 words, all while maintaining a dour and serious expression.

Lox, having immediately rolled up his sleeves to expose his arm tattoos, flicked the foam sword between his fingers disdainfully. How was he supposed to hurt people with THIS? The elf huffed, rolling his eyes and taking in his opponent who Lox remembered as the boy from the grain district.

Must be great to live in a district full of food. He sneered to himself as the boy lunged at him, the lack of weight int he weapon making his parry go wide and allowing the boy to lip him in the chin. Lox snarled and crouched low like an animal, waggling his fingers and chanting to himself.

When next the boy lunged, loud sirens went off all around the pair. Lox growled triumphant as her took advantage of the distraction and rammed the plastic pommel of the sword directly into the boy's crotch, pouncing on him to hit him again and again until the Peacekeepers pried him away.

The next event was more boring than the first, though Lox did manage to knock a few kids down off their obstacles, cackling as he dropped down onto the safe side each time, garnering a glare from the established guards and the muscle-bound scarred guy.

Jibril moves up to the Half-Orc Sheila, "Lets do this" She picks up a foam sword and begins the fight, possibly one of the more energetic fights. They go back and forth Jibril bring in the speedy and deft dodging while Sheila brings in the brute strength Trading blows but mostly blocking each other, as time goes by jibril lands more light hits, while the occasional hit Sheila gets in, hits hard.

After this they go through the obstacle course Jibril makes it through the jumps but falls of the rope, although after all that she manages to stay hydrated and alive.

The foam weapons weren't great but at least they could allow her to get her aggression out. Sheila was a bit surprised that someone from district 2 wanted to spar with her but she was happy to get to beat on someone who at least looked a bit tough. She tried to hit as hard as possible with her weapon but she didn't hit nearly as much as she wanted to. As the sparring went on she got more and more aggressive with her attacks as she tried to get through the defences. It wouldn't have been so bad if her opponent hit harder but she hardly felt her opponent’s attacks and it enraged her that her opponent wasn’t hitting as hard as she could. By the end of it she had worked herself up into a fury and smashes her sword as hard as she could against Jibril's utterly destroying the fake sword.

During the exercises it is obvious she is still fuming and she had difficulty even completing the course. By the end of it she seems to have calmed down a bit and looks quite tired.

Ianthe gets paired up with the female tribute from District 8, Willow. Both girls manage to hit each other, even though neither one is a particularly good fighter., but Ianthe appears to have landed more hits and in return been hit less. Still all this swinging swords and jumping about was a bit tiring.

In the obstacle course Ianthe manages to complete the run and breezes through the tire section, despite her stamina and strength dwindling. She falls off the ropes in the climbing section, as her strength finally succumbs to the day's strain. Although tired from her exertions, she tries to maintain her outward calm and confidence.

Trefoil grips the foam sword tightly as she eyes her sparring partner, the girl from District 12. Sel, or something like that. Though she doesn't fight very fluidly, she manages to block more blows and land more hits than the other girl.

Next the obstacle course. The night after the parade hadn't gone well with Trefoil, and this shows as she stumbles tiredly around the track. The obstacle course didn't go much better, with the girl falling off the ropes, and being shoved off several other obstacles by the tattooed male from 12. In the end, she retreats silently to a corner of the area, bruised and exhausted.

Solomon doesn't perform terribly during sparring, though he doesn't do too well either.

That strike to the groin throws him off his game significantly during the obstacle course. He climbs excellently, but the nausea caused by the strike combined with the strenuous exercise causes him to throw up about two thirds of the way through the course, unable to finish.

Liss is even tinier in person than she was on camera, not even coming up to the waists of most people. Her red curls refuse to stay bound in their ponytail and her jacket is at least one size too big for her and bunches around her midsection oddly. She's tied the ends of the sleeves in place with matching ribbons. It doesn't help.

By default, she's sent to spar with Kijin, as they are the closest in size. The gnome girl is still at least a head taller than her. Liss smiles and extends a hand to shake. "Liss, District 6. Nice to meet you," she says brightly. Cheerfully, even. If anything about being reaped bothers her, she's doing an excellent job hiding it. She's passable with the foam sword, parrying and dodging with more enthusiasm than true skill. Most of her blows are glancing. When the instructor comes over, she giggles, somewhat inappropriately. "This is exciting, isn't it? I've never used one of these before!" She waves her hands expansively, encompassing the entire training room with a wobbly sweep. The moment of levity is lost as quickly as it began, and she makes another lunge.

Her skill on the obstacle course leaves much to be desired. It's simply built for people who are taller, with longer legs and stronger bodies. She slips and gets up and slips again, good cheer fading away to single-minded determination. Her face is blank, like a mask, when she finishes, and she is sweating heavily.

Odath turned to face his opponent as soon as they were paired. He seemed to be sizing up the half-orc but did so with a blank emotionless stare. They were both fairly tall, but Antogg might have been built more heavily. As they walked to a sparring zone, Odath introduced himself with a strange mirth, like a robot programmed to do so, mechanical rather than organic. "Hi," he said, "I'm Odath Fergusson 17, District 7." He reached out his hand to shake and stretched his lips to smile.

After receiving their practice swords, Odath made a few test swings, slicing at the air between them. To a passerby, he seemed fairly calm, but to someone close enough to pay attention, like Antogg, they would see a quiet rage building. Irrational and inexplicable - but there - behind his long face. When they fought - and it was a fight - Odath lunged and hammered with abandon. Wild and untrained but honed by instinct and a powerful body. A more skilled fighter might best him, but not by much.

___________________________

Odath is quick on his feat and jumps each hurdle with ease, but he trips several times on the tires and once on his own foot, falling face-first. Embarrassed and exhausted, Odath finally catches up to that tiny little girl who he was definitely ahead of just then.

James gets paired up with the guy from District 1, Goelev. Being a lot shorter than most of the guys matched him up better with the taller than average dwarf. His "blade" work is excellent though, parrying and striking easily among the best of the tributes. That isn't to say he came out unscathed, with the dwarf landing a few choice blows. It almost seems like James stops trying a couple times and lets a few more blows through, but it could just be the onlookers imagination.

------------------------------------------------

When it comes to the obstacle course however, he lets loose. He takes an early lead when it comes to the running track and the tires, his feet moving swiftly through the rings. He similarly excels at the jump and the climbing, keeping his advantage and away from the psycho that was pushing people around on the course. By the time he reaches the end, first of the group, he's breathing hard and sweating a little, but otherwise seems unfazed by the course. He looks back at the others as they cross, grinning that same stupid grin he'd had at the Reaping.

As for Goelev in this pairing, he decides not to try too hard in the combat. He didn't want to cause trouble before the game, and he knew making enemies for silly reasons would be the worst idea. Nevertheless, he defends flawlessly, and hits hard when his opponent gave him the opportunity. "A sword?" Goelev exclaimed loudly, "Give me an axe, a proper weapon, and I'll show you my true skill!" His vanity, he hoped, would be intimidating.

_____________________

In the endurance test, Goelev used his training to his advantage. He completed the course with minor difficulties, mostly from trying to fit through the tires, but his strength paid off there, just about. He finished breathing heavily, but was (even more) full of confidence having seen the others find difficulty, a surprise to him.

Following the assault course, a group of orderlies arrive in the compound and begin to clear away parts of the track. At the same time, they start to piece together what appears to be a gigantic screen with some kind of number pad in front of it. Whilst this is going on, several of the tributes begin to disperse from the finishing line of the track. Athena heads over to the weapon racks without hesitation, picking out a bow and practicing her archery skills. Thestor sees this and, with little hesitation, heads over to join her, though he seems content to watch her practice for the time being. The two are soon joined by Kevin, who walks up to one of the practice dummies, picking up a knife along his way. The tributes from 8 mill about a bit, working their way over to one of the survival stations. Between them, they start trying to work out how to start a campfire. Tempra heads over to a table laden with various plants and begins to examine each one.

Hayl and Camile simply sit on a bench a short distance from where the running track ended, the two soon fall into a conversation, though the words are hard to make out. Kijin, the gnome, heads over to yet another of the survival stations. This one is apparently dedicated to teaching the worker where they can find different foodstuffs in the wild. Sel heads off to a bench on her own, keeping an eye on the others.

Athena vs. Camile

The two couldn't be more different. Athena carries herself in a confident, composed manner. Her gaze is stern and her form is refined. Camile, meanwhile, grins sheepishly to start with, holding the 'blade' loosely, clearly without any skill. She is soon battered by a storm of blows from the career girl, forcing her back. Athena relents only long enough to allow the unfortunate girl from nine to stand again, before beginning once more.

Kevin vs. Weaver

Weaver looks incredibly nervous, holding the foam blade up in front of him, trying to keep Kevin from hitting him. For his part, Kevin lands several blows in quick succession before stopping, looking unimpressed at Weaver's lack of effort. Rather than batter him into submission, he just drops his own training weapon and waits for the session to end.

Tempra vs. Hayl

Neither tribute looks too sure what to do with their practice weapons. After a few practice swings, they seem to both pick it up to a degree. Though clearly not trained with a blade, both tributes are able to trade blows reasonably well. By the time the assault course begins, both of them are sporting a few bruises.

As each tribute runs the course, their results are displayed on a dominating screen, looming over the tributes as they reach the end of the track. The results remain up long after each of the tributes have crossed the line, presumably for the benefit of those watching.

Hayl

The girl from District 5 proves to be remarkably capable, rapidly traversing the course laid out. Even sliding off of the rope swing barely slows her. Her dedication and persistence allows her to narrowly finish in first place, much to the obvious surprise of the instructor's.

Chester

Following quickly behind Hayl, Chester makes good use of his relatively advanced age, his more developed physique letting him push through what the smaller tributes couldn't. As with Hayl, the only thing that slows him down is the rope climb, which he slips off of uncomfortably. This doesn't seem to concern him as he crosses the line in good time.

Sel

Showing that even the outer districts can perform well in physical challenges, Sel shows a remarkable degree of determination as she makes her way through the course. Despite being unable to make the jump, and missing the rope entirely, she still manages to complete the course mere moments behind James.

Thestor

Seeming to be particularly driven to complete the course quickly, Thestor throws himself headlong into the effort. He seems like a good contender for the first to finish until he reaches the rope swing. His swing is near perfect, but at the apex he loses his grip, letting several tributes pass him. Though his time is good, his face is darkened by a frown when he crosses the line.

Athena

Arguably the most confident looking of the tributes at the starting point of the course, Athena makes her way through the first few obstacles without difficulty. When she crashes into the ground unexpectedly at the first jump, she curses profusely. Pulling herself to her feet, she presses onwards, but the fall seems to have bruised her ego. Rather than take her time on the rope swing, she leaps straight into it without trying to time it right. Rewarded with another stinging fall to the floor, she finally finishes the course.

Willow

The young girl from nine proves to be surprisingly nimble, if not especially strong. She darts through the course with reasonable speed, even managing to make the jump. As with so many before her, though, the rope swing proves to be her undoing. Unable to support her own weight on the swing, her arms give way. Limping across the line, she still finds she's not made bad time.

Camile

Camile is slow off the starting line, watching Athena warily whilst nursing the many bruises she'd been given. Setting off at a slow trot, she soon comes to the first obstacle. Taking a run up, she hits the other side heavily. Winded, she pulls herself up on the other side just in time to watch Hayl cross the line ahead of her. With a similar lack of success at the rope swing, she finally crosses the line, out of breath.

Weaver

Similarly battered after the sparring, Weaver takes his time over the start of the course. This reticence proves to be more harmful than helpful when he reaches the jump. Without the necessary speed, he falls short and ends up landing on the ground. Grimacing, and determined to do better, he throws himself with full force at the rope swing... And misses his grab... Rewarded with a nasty smack to the head, he staggers across the line.

Kevin

Despite, or perhaps because of, his considerable bulk, Kevin struggles with the obstacle course. Though able to get over the jump without difficulty, the rope proves to be his undoing, a bad landing ensuring that he finishes amongst the last of the tributes.

Kijin

As one of the smallest tributes, it is perhaps understandable that Kijin struggled with the assault course. Despite the hindrance her size provided, she still managed a commendable effort, barely missing the distance for both the jump and the rope swing.

Tempra

Apparently, the realities of the obstacle course were quite different from the power plants of District 3. Tempra seems to seriously struggle with the track, stumbling over several obstacles and failing to get past both the jump and the rope swing.

Note, the display only shows relative positions, not individual times. Lox is currently not shown as I am still waiting on him to roll/direct me to where his roll is. He will be inserted into the leaderboard once his results are known.

Neither Hayl or Camile appear to notice Ianthe listening in on their conversation, though she can only make out snippets without getting too close.

"I'm just saying ... Way too tough on you..."

Camile rubs her arms, several of the bruises she's sustained already becoming visible, some already looking like they'll be particularly nasty, "I guess, but she ... I mean, only one person can ..."

Hayl nods in what looks to be an understanding manner and leans over to give Camile a gentle hug around the shoulder. It seems like Hayl may be comforting Camile over the rough treatment she received during the sparring.

Lox's flagrant displays of magic seem to be catching the attention of the peacekeeper's in the training block with them. Though none have made a move yet, more than one is keeping a close eye on him, some even look ready to go for their batons.

The third test is one that is performed individually as everyone is spread about at different stations. One by one, each tribute is taken aside to a computer. There a program is run that rapidly asks the tribute multiple choice questions about survival, nature, and poison.

Immediately following that is a type of matching game, forcing the tribute to rapidly match images that go together in survival. Wooden logs with fire, thunderstorm with shelter, Poison Ivy with a avoidance symbol, poisonous berries with a poison symbol, etc. However as time progresses, it continues to add more choices for matching. Thus it is a race against time to complete the game before it defeats you.

For this challenge, you may make a reflex check or a straight intelligence check.

Optional: A DC 15 survival check will add +2 to this check.
Optional: A DC 15 knowledge (Nature) check will add +2 to this check.
You cannot take 10 on these checks because you are under duress, Failure of either means you gain a -1 to the reflex/intelligence check.

There's no set pass/fail mark, instead your score simply represents how well/poorly you perform.

The final test they make you complete reminds you what sadists the capital can be. At the same time, all 24 tributes are given metal rods. They are told to hold onto the rod as long as possible. Shortly after, the rods begin to emit electric shocks that are quite painful.

Roll a will save. Add your con bonus to this save. Your result is the number of rounds you are able to hold onto the rod. You may select a lower number of rounds if you like.

Alex faults often in the test, rather flustered, but when it comes time to hold the rod... It's as with the last endurence trial, despite what one may think he holds on with grit teeth for exceptionally long until his hands finally jerk too wide, causing the rod to fall to the ground.

Though she seems to have a grasp of which symbols match with which, Trefoil is always just too slow in hitting the right buttons. The fact that she's still clearly tired from the previous tests probably has something to do with this.

But when she grabs hold of the rod, she stays holding it. Perhaps she's too tired to care. Her face is emotionless as the seconds drag on and the shocks seem to increase. Eventually, though, they grow too much, and she drops the rod, quickly retreating to one of the benches.

Lox actually manages to do moderately well...up until he gets angry at the unceasing barrage of questions and chooses to blast a hole in the monitor with a Ray of Frost, only to sit up straight, with his arms out to the sides as the Peacekeepers come to haul him away...again.

The same reaction occured during the Shock-stick test. They gave him this stick, he grabbed it, and it shocked him, so he screamed in anger, dropped the stick and kicked it towards the nearest Peacekeeper, waggling his fingers as it reached the guard and dousing the guard and electrified stick in water. He giggled as the twitching began.

Liss goes through the tests mechanically. Her verbal responses are flat and precise, often offered before the machine finishes asking its question, and performs quite well indeed. The matching test is little different. She hits button after button with mechanical precision, hampered far more by her stature and short arms than lack of speed.

She immediately retreats the moment the test is finished, heading over to the various dummies. She selects a dagger and mimes stabbing it into the over-large dummy, dragging the dull blade across the back of its knee, up from crotch to navel with a flourish. Her face is blank, eyes barely even blinking.

Liss yelps as the first shock lances through her arm. The second one barely makes her flinch. The halfling holds the bar at arm's length, staring at it intently. She chews on her lower lip and makes no sound. When the first minute is up, she simply crouches and sets the bar on the ground. Every motion is controlled, deliberate. She straightens up just as slowly, dusts her hands on her jacket, then spins around and skips away.

At the beginning of the third exam Ianthe's head is filled with all the many things she learned about survival from her grandmother and parents before they died. Memories mix with information and she is overwhelmed, as she tries to strip the information from the memories. She soon is able to filter out what she needs and becomes more confident as she progresses through the exam. Not her best performance, but not bad all things considered. Better to be reminded of her past in training then when her life was actually on the line.

On the fourth exam Ianthe feels the shock and fights her initial response of crying out by imagining herself to be like the sea during a storm. Instead she looks at the other tributes in turn, her eyes gleaming as the electricity flares though her body, and she does the one thing she knows will affect them, she smiles at them. After about a minute and half her entire body aches from the pain, and the exertions from the earlier trials returns, she struggles to maintain her grasp and her consciousness. Her eyes close and her smile fades as she reaches deep inside herself. She now holds the rod in both of her hands. All of her considerable force of will goes into the effort to stave off the pain and stay upright, but she falls to her knees still holding the rod in her bloodless hands. Her body is now visably quivering from the exertion and she is quietly mumbling to herself.

Jibril walks up to the machine the third person to do so and starts answering questions. Her head isn't in the game and she quickly slows down and is "over-powered" by the onslaught of questions, and similarly with the matching game. At the end of it she kicks the machine and walks away waiting for the next test. As she waited she keenly watched each of the other tributes noting anything of interest during the test.

When they were given the metal rods she held on for a minute and a half or two minutes before the jerks and muscle spasms became to much and she whacked herself in the head with it by accident, pissed she threw it up toward the spectators box, harmlessly missing by a few feet.

James follows Jibril in the line to the machine. Despite just being at the station shortly ago, he doesn't do all that great. Maybe ever so slightly better than average. He shrugs. "I knew I wouldn't do too well. Oh well." He offers a half-hearted kick to the thing, but fails to connect.

When it comes to the rods though, he unearths a nigh-heroic will power. Holding the rod with a single hand, he stands among the last to drop their rods. He's almost silent and stands stock still. The only thing that even showed he was being shocked like everyone else was the involuntary twitch the shocks caused and the small grunts he'd make when it did. When finally let's it go, he throws it to the ground. "Well that was supremely unpleasant."

After the obstacle course and before the survival matching test, Goelev heads straight for the practice dummies, and goes to town with a waraxe (or the closest thing he could find to one). It was the first practice with one he'd had since he arrived in the capital.

For the 3rd exam, Goelev also struggles to reach the buttons but performs reasonably. His instincts sure kicked in to help him, since he'd always hated the 'theory' part in his training. He felt that he had done better than he expected, although below average among the other tributes.

For the 4th exam, Goelev picks up the rod and growls with greatly increasing volume as the shocks increase in magnitude, and as the minute mark goes Goelev starts to roar with pain and determination. He doesn't get half a minute past that and drops the rod, where he kicks it in anger towards the nearest wall. For this exam, he felt that he had underperformed.

Hayl's arms are a blur as she works at the game, showing an incredible competence with the machine. When the speed and sheer number of potential combinations finally overwhelm her, her score is noticeably higher than her closest competitor's. Grinning wildly to herself, she almost skips away from the computer.

Athena demonstrates a similar level of ability, working fast and watching the screen with furious intent. When she finishes, she gives a grim smile of satisfaction at her score, evidently pleased to be so near the top of the group. While she waits for the others to take the test, she returns to the weapons stand, only pausing to watch when other career's take their turns.

When Thestor's turn arrives, he approaches the console confidently. Watching carefully as it begins, he soon starts to hit the buttons. His confidence appears to have been misplaced, however, as the regular buzz of a missed answer issues from the speakers as he works. A scowl forms on his face, and rapidly deepens before, all too soon for his liking, he was forced to stop. As he storms away from the machine, he mutters under his breath to himself.

"What a bloody stupid waste of time... Not like I'd be pressured when I'm out there... Ridiculous..."

The last to be called up, Weaver soon proves himself to also be the least. Even the simple design of the computer seems to baffle the poor boy. Half the time he couldn't even hit the button he wanted to before the test moved on. He looks to be close to tears by the time the klaxon announces he's finished. He doesn't get a chance to collect himself, though, as all of the tributes are ushered to the next test.

Once all the tributes are lined up and holding the rods, the sudden electric shock causes an immediate stiffening in all twenty four tributes. A pair of yelps go up almost immediately from Weaver and Willow as the two youngest tributes drop their rods, possibly in surprise, perhaps in pain. Willow tentatively reaches back down to it, but jerks her hand away as a spark jumps out at her hand. Weaver, meanwhile, wanders away from the line and sits in a corner, knees wrapped in his arms. Silent tears work their way down his cheeks.

The clatters of one or two more rods being dropped signify a few more tributes dropping out before a particularly loud crash echoes round the room. Thestor turns out to be the culprit. Looking particularly angry, he's thrown his rod to the floor barely more than half a minute in. Glaring up at the observation windows, he stalks away from the line and starts working on tying knots in a survival station.

It's a full thirty seconds before anyone else gives in to the pain, but soon enough tributes begin to drop their rods in quick succession. While Lox's latest antagonistic trick is being dealt with, Camile crumples to the floor, her hand spasming as the rod falls out of her grip. Kevin, grimacing, manages to last maybe ten seconds before he too lets his grip on the rod go. Massaging his hand, he looks disappointed that he couldn't maintain his hold as long as everyone else.

As the two minute mark approaches, fewer and fewer tributes are able to hold on until finally only three, Athena, James and Sel, are still continuing. Athena's knuckles are bright white as she clutches the rod with all her strength, her face a mask of pain. In contrast, Sel looks almost serene, holding the rod lightly in front of her with both hands, only the occasional twitch betraying her level of discomfort. Eventually, Athena can take no more and forces her hand open, letting the rod fall to the floor. Panting heavily, she looks to see the final two, nodding gently to herself.

Sel finally releases the rod at the same time as James, opening her palms and letting out a pained gasp. The two rods clatter to the ground almost simultaneously, and like that, the test ends.

"Attention, tributes, attention." A tinny voice sounds out across the room, appearing to issue from all four walls, "You have now completed all mandatory exercises. The remainder of these three days prior to your final examination may be spent as you see fit. May the odds be ever in your favour."

Following the announcement, the tributes disperse. Athena approaches Goelev before waving over James and Jibril. She casts the odd glance out over the rest of the room as she talks to them.

Throwing occasional glances out to make sure nobody else was listening in, Athena talks to the other three in hushed tones. "Look, we need to talk. Frankly, Four are underperforming. I don't know what you lot think, but I'm not sure if we can rely on them or not. The guy didn't do bad on the assault course, granted," this concession doesn't seem to come easy to her, "But neither of them look like they're reliable in a fight..." She leaves the comment hanging, apparently wanting the others to add their thoughts.

Meanwhile, Hayl jogs lightly over to Alex, a wide grin plastered on her face.

Hayl makes little effort to be discreet, happily talking to her fellow tribute from five. "I can't believe how well we did!" She seems to be flushed with success, "Those shock sticks stung so much, but we were in the top few!"

Camile notices Weaver in the corner. Concern etched on her face, she heads over to the young boy. Crouching down beside him, she starts whispering to him.

"Hey, you ok?"

Weaver sniffs and shakes his head slightly, Camile wraps an arm around his shoulder, "Hey... It'll be ok," She soothes, "You'll see. Things always work out..."

The young boy rests his head on Camile's shoulder, barely audibly saying "I just want to go home..."

Sel, Tempra and Chester are all clustered together at a firemaking station. Each is working on their own part, not really talking to one another, instead just focusing on their own tasks. Kevin and Kijin are both over at the weapons station, continuing to display a fair degree of skill with combat blades.

The next three days of training, the tributes are given free reign over what they do. You can go to whatever station you want. VR combat with Illusions is always an option too. At the end of every day, tributes get a hour or two with their mentors, this is resolved in your individual IC's.

Mechanically all of you may now gain up to two traits. The first trait will cost you 500 xp, the second costs 1000xp for a total of 1500 xp if you take both. Alternatively you may also buy a weapon or armor proficiency in place of a trait for the above cost. Even if this xp cost drops you below what is required for level 2, you will not lose a level. (it will be offset by xp that is coming). If you don't want to spend xp, you don't have to. But you will still be level 3 when the games start, either way.

The traits selected should be ones that grant a bonus to skills (and make skills class skills) that you work on over the three days. If there is a non-skill trait that you are interested in taking, please ask in the OOC. I likely will say no, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

When she appears in front of Lox some time later, it is as sudden as it is unanticipated. She's simply there, when she was not before. Though I know all of the plants on the list, I can't hit the buttons in time, and, though I do decently enough, I underperform for my potential.

The rod of pain was the worst, though, and my physical frailty didnt help. Just under a minute in, the shocks slam into two of my scars and sear them open, smoke trailing from my hand. Blood trickles down my body as the old wounds try to heal once more.

Athena looks nonplussed at James' suggestion, "Levitt?" She glances over briefly at where the two tributes from 5 are engaged in conversation, "I'll agree she's someone to keep an eye on, but for joining the pack?" Again, she lets the comment hang. A brief glance towards the two from 4 heralds her next comment, "If they are mages, it may be worth having them after all," there's a hint of a sneer on her face as she says 'mages', "If they don't show it, we won't know, though."

Lifting up a spear, she runs her fingers over the shaft and then inspects the head. There is a slight frown on her face as she does so, but she ends up taking the weapon over to the practice dummies. She is tired, and her movements are slowed, yet she is deliberate as she sweeps the spear up and thrusts it into the torso of the dummy, pausing for a moment, then yanking the weapon out. Meanwhile, Camile gets up from where she was sitting with Weaver, approaching Alex with a nervous look on her face.

"Uh, hi. Alex, right?" She looks to be nervous about talking to him, "I was speaking to Hayl earlier," her attention flickers over to where Hayl's now training as she mentions Alex's fellow tribute, "And she said you were a really nice guy and I don't really know where I'm going with this..." "I'd rather just hold the cornucopia. We don't know what the land'll be like, but we do know there will be plenty of stuff for us there," Athena's tone suggests that James' lack of optimism was doing little to impress her, "If you want to vouch for Levitt, then you're keeping an eye on her."

She brushes an errant hair out of her face, her attention flickering over to the tributes from 4, "I guess we could do that," she muses, "There's still time for them to prove themselves useful, too. No need to decide straight away."

Trefoil finds that Kevin has made his way closer to her, opting to work on the Dummy just next to hers. He's not said anything yet, but he's performing fairly flashy, if impractical, moves. He gives the girl from 11 an occasional glance as he does so.

Lox's malicious trick draws the attention of the Peacekeeper's present in the room. A pair of them approach him whilst a third heads over to the Halfling from 6. With the touch of a rod, the frog winks out of existence.

One of the Peacekeeper's leans grabs Lox's upper arm roughly, leaning in menacingly, "This is your last warning you little cretin, make one more wrong move and we're going to clap you in supressant's for the rest of the training. If you really get on my nerves, we might even let you wear them into the arena, too."

The Peacekeeper by Liss, having just dispatched of the frog, gives her an unimpressed look. "You're going to want to steer clear of this one, little girl like you against a psycho like him? No chance."

"True, we can leave it a little in case we've misjudged. Also, the cornucopia is no doubt the place to stay, or at least get as much equipment as we can if we go hunting" said Goelev, looking up at each tribute equally frequently. "Mages could be a strategic advantage we would otherwise not have, I suppose. Let's leave it a while and then decide for sure." He raised his bushy ginger eyebrows in anticipation of some agreement, or consensus.

Trefoil notices the boy next to her, and spares him a passing glance as she's stepping back and readying her spear. After another round she pauses again and turns hesitantly towards him, but ultimately ends up going back to her practice with the weapon. Step. Thrust. Pull. Step.

At first Shelia tried to stay with the basics that didn't have anything to combat but it was just so boring. She took to practicing her skills in weapons just in case she got her hands on some in the games that weren't axes. She seemed to take great joy in breaking the dummies' neck with a single heavy swing.

Liss watches the frog fly towards her, not reacting in the least to its sudden appearance. It's only when the Peacekeepers look up that she visibly starts and jumps back several inches.

"I'm sorry. Sorry!" she babbles, wringing her hands. "I did not - didn't realize - if he's so dangerous how come you're leaving him in here with us?" she demands, fear morphing into anger like flipping a switch. Her face contorts, brows dropping low and nose scrunching up. It makes her look more petulant than anything else. "Why is - isn't he in suppressants already? He could hurt someone." She backs away, pulling herself into the protective bubble of the Peacekeeper's reach. Her wide eyes never leave Lox's face. "I was just trying to be nice."

Athena nods curtly, "Agreed, he's too much of a wild card. With luck, the Capital will see things the same way and we won't need to worry about him," she smirks, something seemingly amusing her, "Though it wouldn't hurt for us to plan out a way to kill him. We could go for him straight after we get our gear, if he's dumb enough to try and take what's ours."

The peacekeeper holding Lox down swears, reaching behind him he unclips what look to be handcuffs, though lacking the chain linking the metal rings. With the aid of the second guard, he forcibly attaches them to the boys wrists.

"You asked for it!" The peacekeeper is fuming, all but shouting at the tribute, "You're lucky that you're being watched, or I'd happily break your arm, kid."

The guard next to Liss chuckles mirthlessly, "If you're trying for nice, you're in the wrong place. You'll run along now if you know what's good for you."

Kevin appears to notice Trefoil's attempts at starting a conversation. He stops his own training and half-turns to focus properly on what the girl from 11 is doing. His cheeks are slightly flushed as he asks, "Want to try training together?"

Kijin, training nearby on another dummy, tries to catch Sheila's attention. She rolls her eyes, nodding towards Kevin and Trefoil as she did so.

"I like to think so, and the cynic in me is guessing your partially appraising me for the games where I'll have to learn to forget that, or she told you my thoughts as to Reese, one of our trainers... and the catcaller. "I heard about your family on the replays. I'm sorry, it can't be easy for you to be here."

The rest of the group isn't really interested, so you'd be my responsibility if you did join us." He looks at the other careers. "I seriously don't think they have much of a chance when it comes to survival. They just want to take the Cornucopia and win like that. I don't really think that's going to work this year." She pauses, turning her head to look across the room in Alex's direction, "There's a condition..." She turns back, "I want Alex in as well..." On the fifth day, early in the morning the tributes are all brought to the training center once more. Of course this time, you are not brought to the gymnasium. Instead you are brought to a small room with just enough room for everyone to squeeze onto two benches. One side for males, one side for females.

One by one, a peacekeeper calls a tribute in to the gymnasium. They start with District 1, and work their way up. First the boy, then the girl. Once they go in, they don't come back. The air is tense, and not much is said. Everyone knows their performance matters a great deal, and knowing it doesn't do much for nerves.

Testing will be conducted in your individual IC thread.

-You get to show no more than three talents to the judges. You don't have to show them three things if you don't want, and it won't hurt you. You can show them anything you want, but you only have 15 minutes to do so.
-If you have offensive abilities, even mediocre ones, your mentor would probably advise you to show them. Demonstrations without offense are not going to get as high of scores.
-For each demonstration, you may roll up to 3 times. Then you may arrange the rolls in whatever order you wish for attempts to demonstrate your skills. However you still need to mention/explain your low rolls. For example, when Katniss first shoots a bow she misses the target 'because she isn't used to the tautness of the capital made bow'.

Here are the run down of the numbers to beat.

Melee
-Dummies have a AC of 8, a Hardness of 8, and 10 HP.
-Called shots may be made. They take a -4 to hit.

Arms have a Hardness of 2, and 4 Hp
Legs Have a Hardness of 4, and 5 Hp
Heads have a Hardness of 6, and 3 Hp
Necks have a Hardness of 1, and 2 Hp but take a additional -4 to hit.

Ranged
-These (http://realtylab.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/target-human_silhouette.png)are the targets they use.

Location 7 has a AC of 7
Location 8 has an AC of 9
Location 9 has an AC of 13
Location X had an AC of 17

Skills
-All skill demonstrations have a DC of 15. A second demonstration may be made with a DC of 20 as you make a more impressive demonstration.

Spells
-Rolls do not need to be included for spells, however they do count as a demonstration.

Finally your name is called, and you are escorted out into the gymnasium that you have become familiar with over the last few days. It looks eerie with no one here other than the peace keepers at the doors. Up on the raised platform sit a dozen capital men, all chatting among themselves. They're at least giving you some of their attention. They look down upon you, ready to judge your every move. No instruction is given, and once in front of them the peacekeeper walks off. You stand alone before a dozen strangers looking down on you, judging your every move.

Sel glances around, "I think we're probably ok to talk now," She grins humourlessly, "I mean, who really cares what a couple of no-hoper's talk about, right?"

She rubs the back of her neck as she considers what to say next, "I'm pretty quick on my feet when I need to be, it might be worth trying to grab a couple of things from the Cornucopia then meeting up elsewhere? I can make a signal for you, but other people will probably see it."

Hamste
2014-10-13, 11:33 AM
Go for survival equipment. I rather we die by fighting than starvation or poison and I can fight with my body if need be. Also, make sure you see where you want to go before the games start, see who is running where and then close your eyes before running in. I had six of them pegged as spell casters before training and now I have seven pegged. The closed eyes won't help against a lot of things but at least it will help with illusion based casters. After all, if you can't sense an illusion is it really there? The actual fighters won't have weapons yet so you don't have to worry about a lot them but spell casters are always ready. Also, if Lox starts next to you, turn and run immediately. I may not know much about people but I do know from how you describe him, that his first response to the games starting will be to try to kill everyone close to him before running away with out grabbing anything. Do you have any idea what spells he knows?

Now, when we meet up, whenever we get into a fight we want them to attack me. My family taught me some stuff before I left. Any wounds they give me won't last that long as long as there is something solid that you can lift in the terrain we are in.

The trick to the signal is to make a noise or sight that seems common for the terrain we are in so the others won't question but we will know what it means. For example, back when I was just a toddler my family used to signal each other by cutting down three particularly large trees in rapid succession. We are a district known for lumber jacking so a tree falling down was not questioned but if we heard the sound of three in rapid succession in the same direction we knew something was up. I could also move something so that it looks in place but you know it is not. The difficulty is that we don't know what climate we will be in so we can not preplan that signal. Another tactic is that we make the signal mean something other what others expect. Most people expect a signal to mean to go there. What if we made it to mean meet me on the other side of the cornucopia about that far out?

James shrugs and looks at Ianthe. "Even if you suggested something that didn't put me at risk, you have shown anything that would make me want to do that! Your own demands defeat themselves!"

"No one is making demands or said anything about being better than you, we merely want to be considered equal members of the group. Numbers are just that, numbers. You can't know someone by a number. We offer our various skills in exchange for equal membership in the career pack. If you can't offer that, then we have nothing more to discuss. So what is it going to be?"

The tributes are woken early in the morning following their interviews. Peacekeeper's usher them out of the apartments that they'd called home over the past few days, taking them in armoured vans to a large hangar. Within are several of the Capital hovercraft. All 24 tributes are herded onto the nearest of the great machines. Once on board, they're strapped in securely. One of the peacekeeper's moves along the rows, injecting trackers into the arms of the tributes. The hovercraft lurches into life, giving each tribute a sinking sensation as it takes off into the air. The ride is all but silent, the jangling of straps and buckles being the only thing creating any real noise.

It doesn't take long before the craft begins to land again. The familiar drop in the stomach signifying the decrease in altitude. It takes a few moments for the doors to open after landing. Peacekeeper's climb on board from the landing pad, "Everybody out, you are each going to be taken to your starting pod."

Upon arrival at their individual pods, the tributes find the stylist who prepared them for the chariot ride is waiting for them. A one-piece suit with significant padding and fur-lined extremities awaits them. They're instructed to wear it, the suit being their outfit for the arena. There is little else in the room. Only a pair of chairs, a speaker and a glass tube with a pedestal.

The suit is what you'll be wearing into the arena. It provides you with a +2 bonus to fortitude saves against extreme cold, your individual stylists will indicate as such, and guess that the arena is likely to be an area where the cold can be considered a natural hazard.

From here on in, all tribute actions are to be carried out in personal IC threads. If and when you declare an attack against a fellow tribute, your target's AC will be made known to you (this means that I don't need to step in every time to confirm that the attack is a hit/miss). Note: A few of you still have personal stories still in progress. You are welcome to resolve these threads alongside the games themselves, I would ask you not to begin any new scenes from here on out, though. If there is something specific that you feel like you desperately need to play out, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

The games will officially start once all PC tributes have updated to level 3.

A reminder, this is a PvP game. While I will try to be fair in my rulings, many of your characters will die. You knew it when you signed up, so do not get angry at one another OoC for IC actions. I reserve the right to boot from the game anyone who is actively being a disruptive influence OoC. IC actions are fair game, but will carry IC consequences.

"Attention Tributes, you have 60 seconds before the Games begin. Prepare to enter the arena."

The tinny voice issues from the speaker, breaking the silence in the waiting room. The seconds tick by with terrible finality. At the thirty second mark, the voice speaks again "Attention Tributes, enter the tube in your waiting area's and prepare to begin."

As soon as the tributes enter the tubes, a pneumatic hiss signals the rapid closing of the perspex seal, trapping them inside. The floor beneath them begins to rise, lifting them into the cold air above. Emerging into the bright light, the tributes see that they have been arranged in a rough semi-circle, the cornucopia forming the central point. There is a forest directly opposite the cornucopia, the branches heavy with snow and free of all leaves. Several large boulders are strewn about the clearing, though none obstruct the path to the centre. To the south lies a shoreline, the breaking waves disturbing a thin layer of sea ice. Beyond the Cornucopia the snow gives way to a tundra, green grass poking out in several places. Quite what lays beyond that is difficult to tell at this distance. The scenery is dominated by a pair of mountains, both to the north. A valley has formed between them and some kind of mist is rising at the head of it.

The most immediate, attention grabbing, feature is the Cornucopia itself. A couple of dozen bags lie around the mouth of the horn, the promise of potentially life saving equipment inside. At the very centre of this bounty stands a weapons rack laden with swords, a second with a bow and several arrows. Between the two stands a suit of what looks to be cured leathers. Above it all is the countdown timer. Any moment now, it will hit 0 and the games will begin.

Alright! With Entaris finishing up Lox's sheet, we're ready to start. Everyone please roll initiative and declare your first actions in your individual threads. I'll compile them in this thread once you have. I'll be doing the majority of updates here for the opening of the games, moving into the individual IC's as everyone scatter's.

Just in case anybody has trouble reading where they're starting. Working from the top clockwise, starting positions are as follows; Lox, Athena, Chester, Sel, Antogg, Solomon, Weaver, Tempra, Liss, Alex, Ianthe, Hayl, Willow, Kevin, Trefoil, Sheila, Goelev, Camile, Talas, Odath, Kijin, James, Thestor, Jibril.

The timer hits zero. Time almost seems to stretch as everyone reacts at once.

Athena is the first off her podium, racing as fast as she can to the mouth of the Cornucopia. She manages to cross the compacted snow without any real difficulty, reaching the sword rack. Across the clearing, Talas also races into the central area, his eyes firmly fixed on the closest of the bags. He reaches it and snatches it up, throwing a quick glance around to spot an escape route. His eyes widen in panic when he sees Goelev racing past him, the Dwarf moving with surprising speed. Goelev, however, appears to take little more than passing notice of the Elf. Instead, he almost reaches the weapons rack where Athena is standing, already eyeing up one of the blades. Toward the south of the clearing, James officially opens hostilities.

A grin on his face, the boy from District 2 catches Kijin off guard, slamming his fist into the unfortunate Gnome's stomach. Those nearby hear a sickening crunch as the young Gnome gasps in pain, blood speckling the snow around her. Seemingly unaware of the events unfolding, Chester rushes to the closest bag, snatching at it in an effort to secure its contents for himself. Ianthe follows suit, though she rushes further in. Skirting around Goelev, she grabs one of the bags closest to the mouth itself.

Antogg, a look of barely suppressed fear on his face, also takes the plunge and rushes for one of the bags. Liss' expression is far more determined. Though hampered by her smaller stature, she still manages to cross the distance rapidly and grab hold of one of the outer bags. Solomon follows suit, but as he does so, a gout of fire unexpectedly bursts forth from Lox. The flames engulf the cornucopia, turning the equipment and tributes within to ash. A look of shock appears on Solomon's face, and he slows to little more than a careful walk.

So, this is a big enough event that I'm giving everyone after this initiative step a chance to react differently. For the sake of both transparency and simplicity, the Initative list (in order) so far is as follows;

Athena
Talas
Goelev
James
Chester
Ianthe
Antogg
Liss
Solomon

If you choose to act differently, please make sure to include it in your post making the save. If you make/fail the save but do not make any changes to your actions, I will assume you'll act the same way. Also please see the OoC for details regarding snow, me being a fool, and any assumptions that may have been made.

The 'fire' issuing forth from Lox breezes harmlessly through the Cornucopia. After the initial surprise, the ashen remains are noticeably transluscent. Though still visible, the effect appears to have been faked.

Solomon's look of shock has been faked, presumably he was either aware of, or perhaps was the source of, the spell that Lox let loose.

Following the apparent cremation of the cornucopia, Trefoil backs away hurriedly into the forest behind her. Those watching her notice that she's now holding a sharpened spear of wood. Tempra, meanwhile, watches the events with horror. Her hands fly up to her mouth and backs away from the scene a few steps, barely leaving her starting podium. In stark contrast, Jibril plunges headfirst into the firestorm without hesitation. She appears untouched as she races through, reaching the mouth of the cornucopia and hefting a bow aloft.

As Jibril joins the others at the mouth of the cornucopia, she sees the two tributes of District 1 giving her a grin in greeting.
Add a longbow to your inventory. There are 20 arrows on the rack, it's a move action to pick one up.

Despite Jibril's apparent confidence, Thestor hesitates at the sight of the flames. Glancing to his right, he sees James engaged in a fight with Kijin. With a grim face, he turns the other way and sprints westward from the cornucopia. Lox, meanwhile, seems to be nowhere to be found at this point. Having unleashed his fury, he's managed to make himself scarce.

Lox has retreated from the Cornucopia, taking advantage of the confusion to shelter behind one of the boulder's.

Kevin glances around himself. The destruction of the Cornucopia appears not to phase him. He grins slightly when he spots Trefoil to his left and almost immediately turns his attention right. Spotting Willow, he rushes her and, with a mighty double handed swing, strikes her in the head. Stunned at the sudden attack, Willow fails to dodge, instead spinning with the force of the blow and falling to the ground.

Odath hesitates at the sight of the fire, taking a step forward before changing his mind and glancing behind himself. He backs away a few paces but stays close to the Cornucopia nonetheless. Sel looks at the blaze calmly, taking a couple of steps forwards. She glances over to her right, raising an arm. A quartet of blue lights race out of her outstretched fingers. They soar up to the western edge of the clearing, forming themselves into a square several metres into the air.

Weaver hesitates when he sees the blaze, but with a look of determination, he rushes in. Mid-sprint, he hears Willow's shout of pain and skids to a stop, a look of horror on his face. Kijin, meanwhile, coughs up blood as she grimaces in pain. Cursing, she makes a clumsy swing back at James, catching nothing but air in the process and leaving her open for retaliation. An opportunity James takes full advantage of, slamming the palm of his hand into her once again with crushing force.

Make an Attack of Oppertunity against Kijin if you wish.

Hayl blanches at the sight of the fire, but her look of worry turns to a frown of thoughtfulness as she sees Solomon continue forward anyway. Jibril's rush into the flames seems to set her mind. Sprinting forward, she rushes into the flames and toward where the bags once were.

Hayl reaches the mouth of the cornucopia, eyes landing on the mix of short and longswords on the weapons rack.

Hayl is struggling to hide her fear, whether over the coming fight or having to rush into what looked to be magical flames is as yet unclear.

Camile's hands fly up to her mouth in shock following the fire. When some of the tributes run in anyway, understanding dawns on her face. She glances over to Solomon before rushing for a bag herself. Realisation also flashes over Alex's face, he takes a moment to yell "Illusion! Ignore it and end Lox now!" He turns to try and spot the troublesome Elf.

You'll need a perception check to complete your stated action set.

Sheila is the last to react, taking the opportunity of the distracting fire to rush into the forest.

Athena snatches up the longsword from the weapons rack beside her, spinning around as she does so. Spotting Antogg, she grins and charges forward, blade flashing as she lands a fearsome blow on the unfortunate Half-Orc's leg. Antogg yells out in pain as the blade bites deep, almost causing him to collapse to the ground in agony. Talas takes advantage of the conflict to make his escape, grabbing the bag at his feet and sprinting toward the forest behind him. Giving Ianthe a quick glare, Goelev reaches the swords rack and takes one of the two remaining Short Swords for himself. He holds the blade at the ready, watching carefully for any who might try and get near him. As he does so, James continues his assault on Kijin. Without the element of surprise, however, the Gnome is able to duck to one side to dodge the incoming blow.

Seeing the look in Goelev's eye, Chester grabs the bag by his feet and runs north, trying to put as much distance between himself and the Career's as possible. Taking a bolder approach, Ianthe rushes little more than five feet past Goelev, heading westward and ensuring she keeps the Cornucopia between herself and the fight as much as possible.

Antogg, still reeling from Athena's blade, attempts to limp away from the fight, abandoning the bag that he had risked the Cornucopia for. Before he can take more than a few steps, Athena swings at him again, this time her blade biting into Antogg's lower back. With another roar of pain, Antogg falls to the ground, upper body spasming as he hits the ground. He lands in the snow face first, having seemingly blacked out from the pain inflicted upon him.

Rushing past the grisly scene as fast as she can, Liss races northwards with the bag she's grabbed hurriedly slung over her back. As she runs away, she's passed by Solomon plunging into the conjured blaze, sprinting to grab one of the bags nearest to the cornucopia's mouth. Near the wooded border, Trefoil catches Talas by surprise, rushing him with her wooden spear. Caught off-guard, Talas yelps in pain. The tip of the weapon cuts into his side, grazing along one of his ribs.

I have cut off the IC update here partly because of time constraints and partly because the above actions have sufficiently altered the situation that some of the latter PC's need to alter their stated actions.

Tempra spots Chester emerge from the magical blaze, a look of sheer relief on her face. She starts running to try and catch up to him, cutting across in front of Liss' own path. Closer to the cornucopia mouth, Jibril knocks an arrow and draws her bow back, a look of concentration on her face as she monitor's the approach for any tributes looking to try their luck. Much further to the west, Thestor continues his flight from the cornucopia, disappearing from view.

Thestor shelters behind the boulder Ianthe is rapidly approaching, he urgently waves her over, a look of worry on his face.

Those keeping an eye to the north notice a black tendril of light snake out from behind one of the boulder's, earthing itself into Chester's back. Chester appears to stumble slightly as he clutches at his chest, but keeps his footing. Elsewhere, Kevin looks down at the unfortunate Willow at his feet with a contemplative expression. The girl's eyes flicker open just in time to see Kevin's boot rushing down to meet her. His heel drives itself mercilessly through her neck, tearing muscle and crushing her windpipe.

Southwards, Odath rushes into the magical flames. Perhaps believing that he has spotted an opportunity, he rushes for one of the bags furthest in. He's met by Jibril's arrow, the shaft embedding itself in his upper arm. Cursing, he stoops down to grab the bag at his feet, preparing himself to run from the fight once more. To the north of the clearing, Sel takes advantage of Jibril's distraction to dart in and grab one of the bags. Without hesitation, she rushes toward the forest, racing past Athena as she does so.

A strangled yell of anger cuts through the chaotic sounds of fighting around the clearing as Weaver rushes at Kevin. All subtlety is abandoned as he charges, his punch clearly telegraphed and desperately thrown. Kevin seems more bemused than anything, turning his attention to the young boy. Kevin watches his moves and comfortably sidesteps the clumsy swing. Dropping into a combat stance, he grins and gives Weaver a wink.

Meanwhile, Kijin clutches at her side, blood staining her hand as she grimaces at James. In a sudden rush of motion, she lunges at him again, fist connecting with his chest. Her successful strike is rewarded by a blow to the head, spinning her back away from the boy. Gritting her teeth, she shakes her head and unsteadily resumes her fighting stance.

Kijin is provoking another attack of opportunity here. She does, however, connect with her own attack. James will be taking 3 points of non-lethal damage following his AoO.

Hayl anxiously glances from Goelev to Jibril. When neither make any aggressive moves toward her, she makes her move toward the weapons rack. Picking up the remaining Short Sword, she turns to look over to Alex. Hesitation is plain on her face as she glances from him, to the fights near her, and back to him again.

Having grabbed a bag, Camile looks over to Solomon and gestures to her right. She then turns and sprints southwards as fast as she can.

Camile's meaning seems clear enough, she wants Solomon to meet her around the other side of the forest, circling around as far as they need to to make it.

As Camile rushes past, James catches her eyes briefly. Her eyes widen in horror at the brutal fight he and Kijin are engaged in. She lowers her head and does all she can to get past them as soon as possible.

Alex, with a look of frustration, turns his attention to the fight between Kevin and Weaver. With a growl, he conjures a ball of green-tinted liquid, hurling it at the boy from 10. The orb splashes into Kevin's back, steaming in the cold. Kevin shouts in surprise and pain, ignoring Weaver and twisting round to try and spot the source. Sheila races northward through the forest, her attention fixed on Sel. She keeps her distance from the other tributes as she does so, keeping clear of the conflict's that were occurring along the forest edge.

At this point I've had to split the Over-view map into two. Very soon I will cease to provide over-view and detail maps in this thread and will start to give maps in personal IC's instead.

The magical fire swathing the cornucopia finally dissipates, revealing the tributes and gear within utterly unharmed. Now clearly visible, Athena contemplates Antogg on the ground for a moment or two before glancing up. Sel catches her attention and, blade ready, she rushes towards the girl. Seeing her coming, Sel's eyes widen in shock. Athena thrusts forward with her sword at Sel's neck. Reacting with surprising speed, Sel's hand whips up and catches Athena's wrist. Stepping to one side, Sel turns Athena's momentum against her, sending the surprised Career tumbling into the snow at her feet.

Within the border of the forest, Talas grimaces as he clutches one hand at the wound Trefoil inflicted. Attempting to get inside her guard, he jabs out at her with one of his fists. The blow connects with bruising force.

Toward the south of the clearing, James has apparently had enough of Kijin. He all but yells "Run. Away. Now. Or. I. Will. Kill. You." at her before rushing straight at Kevin. Though it looks as though he'd love nothing more than to strike the boy from 10, the distance between the two is too great for him to force an attack just yet. Toward the north, Chester continues his escape attempt, disappearing into the distance.

Lying in the snow, Antogg's breathing appears to have taken on a semblance of normality, though he remains entirely unconscious. Northwards, Liss shouts out "Come on! This way!" before making her way slowly up between two of the nearest boulder's. Elsewhere, Solomon grabs the bag at his feet and attempts to rush away from the menacing Dwarf. His flight leaves an opening for Goelev to attempt another strike, however.

The results of this may see me need to edit Solomon's actions.

Trefoil continues her assault on Talas, this time her spear cutting into the boy's forearm. He hisses in pain, gritting his teeth to try and suppress it. Tempra, taking heed of Liss' shout, runs a short distance ahead of her, turning to wait for her when she reaches the two boulder's, nervously glancing around every now and again. Closer to the Cornucopia, Jibril draws back another arrow, letting it loose into Odath. With a sickening thud, the arrow penetrates deep into his thigh, eliciting another yell of pain from the boy. Those paying attention spot another tendril of darkness stretching out from behind the boulder to the north, this time rooting itself into Tempra. The young girl appears not to notice, instead continuing to wait patiently for Liss to catch up.

Angrily, Kevin turns his attention to Alex. Paying no attention to the other tributes around him, he rushes at him. James is able to land a powerful blow on the boy as he rushes away, hammering into his back with his fists.

Make an AoO against Kevin if you wish.

Thoroughly cowed by Jibril's accuracy, Odath grabs the bag closest to him and starts to limp away from the Career as fast as he can. Meanwhile, taking advantage of Athena's fall, Sel deftly strikes the girl's forearm. Athena's hand spasms, forcing her to release her grip on the longsword. Sel snatches it without hesitation, backing quickly away from the prone Career and toward the northern edge of the forest. Nearby, Weaver sees Kevin charge off and looks torn between chasing after him and getting to Willow's body. Crying out in anguish, he finally rushes at Kevin again. Once again, his attack carries far more passion than skill, failing to connect with Kevin. As telegraphed as the attack is, Kevin spins around to land a blow of his own into the boy's chest. Kevin's punch carries far more force, impacting with a muffled crack. Though Weaver looks to be in pain, he doggedly continues to stand, a look of hate on his face.

To the south, Kijin sinks to one knee. Clutching at her side, she coughs up another wad of blood. Her mask a rictus of pain, she finally limps off of her starting podium, slowly making her way south. Back at the Cornucopia, Hayl makes up her mind. A look of determination on her face, she races back across the clearing toward where Alex is being attacked by Kevin. Taking care to keep a few paces away in order to avoid attacks, she watches the situation closely for any opening's. Sensing his chance, Alex backs away from Kevin a couple of steps before launching another greenish globe, the liquid splashing across Kevin's shoulder. The hissing liquid triggers another hiss of pain, succeeding in regaining his attention.

Athena stands unsteadily, finally getting her footing back. She glares after Sel and, for a long moment looks like she's going to chase after the girl from twelve. She eventually curses loudly, heading back to the centre of the Cornucopia. Within the border of the forest, Talas attempts to make his escape from Trefoil. He turns and runs southward, leaving himself open to Trefoil, who attempts to capitalise on the opening. Despite her best efforts, though, Trefoil's spear merely catches air.

Make an Attack of Opportunity if you wish. I'm assuming the attack you declared in your thread would be Trefoil chasing after him? If not, say so in your IC.

Goelev sees Athena coming back towards him, his face furrows into a frown. When she curses, he shrugs uncertainly. Taking no more time to wait, he starts to run across the snow toward Solomon, passing the furious Athena and unconscious Antogg on the way. Meanwhile, James chases after Kevin with fury in his eyes. He lands a hammer blow with his fist into Kevin's back, cracking several of the boy's ribs. Kevin yells out in pain, staggering forward under the impact. Northward, Liss strives to escape the chaos of the Cornucopia, rushing away between a gap amongst a pair of boulders.

With Goelev chasing after him, Solomon hurriedly begins to chant in a strange tongue. As he finishes, he fades from existence, utterly invisible to the other tributes. Elsewhere, Trefoil chases after Talas, lunging for him with her spear, though she once again catches nothing but air. Toward the north of the clearing, Tempra follows close behind Liss, casting the odd furitive glance back at the fighting behind her.

Jibril steps out around the corner of the Cornucopia, loosing another arrow into Odath. The arrow cuts into his shoulder, causing the boy to stagger in pain. He manages to keep his footing, however. Kevin is less fortunate. Following James' brutal strike, he collapses forward, vomiting blood onto the snow. He fails to regain his footing, his eyelids fluttering closed instead as he contorts in pain. In an effort to escape Jibril's fury, Odath limps out of sight to the east, disappearing behind a boulder. Across the clearing from him, Sel accelerates away, passing several other tributes as she races over to Sheila.

If you want to (and I imagine you don't), Sheila has the chance to make an AoO against Sel here.

Weaver staggers back from the fallen Kevin, a mixture of anger and horror on his face. He covers his mouth with the crook of his arm and then, with a look of fear, looks around at the others around him. Kijin continues to limp away to the south, clutching at her side as she is wracked by coughing fits.

Meanwhile, Hayl hesitates as she sees Kevin fall. Looking unnerved, she glances from Weaver to Kevin. Her gaze settles on Alex, her resolve appearing to harden as it does. She turns her attention back to Weaver, stepping forward and preparing to thrust her sword. Seeing the grief on the boy's face makes her hesitate, however, leaving her simply standing there. Alex, having seen Kevin fall, glances up and meets Hayl's gaze briefly. Seeing her hesitation, he turns and throws a hand out at Weaver. A globe of liquid manifests, hurtling into Weaver. It splashes into his shoulder, eating its way into his clothing and the flesh beneath.

Athena runs over to one of the bags halfway into the Cornucopia, a scowl on her face as she quickly digs through it, strewing the gear within onto the snow. She finally plucks out a knife, casting about for a fresh target. Talas runs deeper into the woods, doing his best to escape Trefoil. He throws a panicked glance back at her as he runs.

Again, make an AoO if you wish. He's not moving far enough to escape a charge attack.

James looks at Hayl, keeping an eye on Kevin at the same time. "Leave the boy alone, Levitt. Whatever you're thinking, it's not worth sending me after you next." The look he gives her is enough to say that he wouldn't care about their deal. "If you're so desperate to kill someone, why don't you go take the final strike on the gnome girl? She won't live much longer either way." As he speaks, he flips Kevin over onto his back. "Let's see how you like it, bastard." He takes the heel of his right foot on Kevin's throat before stomping down hard. Goelev grunts in frustration as Solomon vanishes. He turns his attention to Weaver instead, seeing the boy is unsteady on his feet. He rushes forward, thrusting his sword into Weaver's chest. Cutting up under his rib cage, Weaver gasps in silent agony, crumpling to the floor. He gives James a hard look as he does so, "Better to have a quick death, Two. Don't forget that."

Trefoil chases after Talas, disappearing deeper into the woods. Closer to the cornucopia, Jibril jogs west. She appears to be trying to catch sight of Odath, though the fact that she hasn't loosed any arrows yet suggests that Odath is managing to evade her so far. Meanwhile, Weaver slips off of Goelev's sword, collapsing face first at Hayl's feet. A thin mist rises off of the blood oozing from his chest. To the south, Kijin staggers behind a boulder, out of sight of the other tributes. Hayl, meanwhile, gives James a worried look before flinching away from Goelev's strike. Her grip on her shortsword appears looser as she steps back away from Goelev.

Sorry for the delay. Maps!
