As you awake to the dawn of a new day, realisation hits you. This is it, the time has come for the Reaping of the 73rd Hunger Games. This has always been an unforgettable day throughout your life.

Getting dressed in your best clothes, you leave your home to join the growing throng of people. Each and every person is making the effort to look their best. The nice clothes are just a formality here, the district tends to treat the reapings more as a celebration than anything else. The tributes will be congratulated, their families becoming the centre of the celebrations. But even through that, there's an uncomfortable undercurrent. Everyone knows that somebody will die. Not today, but as a direct result of today's events. It's a sobering thought.

Just like all the other children in your district, you're lined up with those of your age. Girls stand to one side, boys on the other. Your blood sample is taken by the white clothed peacekeepers at the desk. Once taken, you're ushered into the space in front of the stage. The silence is maddening, and everyone is wearing those false smiles.

Standing on the stage, stationed between two bowls filled with names, is a fashionably dressed woman. She has her nose raised ever so slightly into the air, as though the children before her are barely worth her notice. She doesn't even try to smile...

Please post your character's general appearance and his/her mannerisms as the reaping takes place. How it goes down is completely up to you.

James stretched as he stood waiting. They really needed to put chairs here, standing around was a pain. Surprisingly, he actually bothered to try and dress nice this year, wearing a collared shirt under an open vest and a pair of nice pants in black. He didn't manage to comb his hair though, and it's still partly in his eyes. He'd meant to get that cut. He sighed to himself. This was going to be an eventful year, he could feel it. It also might his last.

To any onlookers, James might actually look a little bored waiting for the names to be called out. Which considering what he planned, would probably really surprise anyone who knew him. He planned to volunteer, assuming his name didn't get called. He looked up straight at the woman's face. She irritated him, looking down on them because she lived in the Capital. It was enough to be infuriating.

Thalia, district 2's escort, drew the first name with a deliberately affected air of scorn, before reading aloud: "Heather Wiltings." There was a pause as a girl of about 16 stoically raised her head, clearly herself training to be a career, but her chance is snatched from her when Jibril Elrick calls out clearly the words, well known in district 2: "I volunteer".

There is little surprise, but everyone stairs on in expectation, and with a little awe as Jibril takes the stage, though James can see that Jibril's smile seems a bit maniacal, a bit too gleeful, and just wrong. Then comes the turn of the male tributes: "Lorron Mars," Thalia reads out. This is James's chance.

James grinned. His cousin sat on her very last year before volunteering. He should have guessed that this was going to be her plan. But even she'd never guess what'd be happening next. James snakes and arm into the air. "I volunteer." He calls out, before the others got the chance to. He wondered what his cousin had been working on all this time as he headed for the stage, the apparent boredom lightened by a not so innocent grin plastered on his own face.

Thalia looked down at him, and he can see surprise register on her face, as he emerged from the assembled 15 year olds instead of from the eldest. James faces hostile glares from those older than him, and stares filled with awe from those younger than him. As he reaches the stage Jibril mutters: "What are you doing?!" clearly shocked and perhaps annoyed.

James just grinned at the older boys scowling at him. He could get used to irritating people like this. He glances side-long at Jibril when she talks to him. "I believe I'm volunteering as tribute for the 73rd annual Hunger Games." The smile widens a bit and it looks more like baring his teeth instead of smile. "I don't need to wait years to be ready."

Thalia raised her arms and gestured to the two tributes: "Jibril Elrick and James Steelblaze!" The applause is loud, deafeningly so, but interspersed amongst it are catcalls and insults, thrown at James, the usurper.

Thalia allows the pair to soak up their applause before gesturing towards the main building behind them and leading the two tributes into the town hall.

Feel free to describe your farewells with your family etc, then we shall head on to the train!

James waits in the room for his family to visit, genuinely dreading the anticipated experience. They'd be livid, he was sure of that.

And they were. His father came in and screamed at him, nearly shouting himself hoarse. His mother just cried and asked him why. And his brother didn't say anything, just nodded and shook James' hand. All in all, better than he thought it'd go. But still pretty bad. "This whole thing is a pain." After his family, he doesn't allow anyone else to visit him. The few friends he'd had would be just as bad as his parents. It was just easier. He was, however, looking forward more to listening what his cousin had to say about the matter.

((I don't know if we're supposed to have the same crew or not. Metroid does not seem in the mood to collaborate))

James was extraordinarily unhappy with the current situation. They'd rushed him off the train and into what he had appropriately dubbed: The Torture Room. They held him down and scrubbed him until he felt raw, dug under his nails and oh god the waxing. When they started waxing him, he had to resist the urge to kill them. He would have torn off their heads if he could have. But soon enough it was over and he met the person who would actually devise his costume for the parade and the interview afterwards.

To be honest, James didn't pay much attention to the rest of the crew. The woman who was telling him what was going to go on made him keep still and look at her. Compared to the rest of what he'd seen, she was almost plain. She didn't dress gaudily, she didn't seem to wear any makeup. Her modestly long red hair was kept in a ponytail. All in all, she seemed to be the one person he might actually like. If she could get the stick out of her butt. She had utterly no sense of humor and after a few attempts of trying to interrupt her and getting whapped across the nose with a thin rod, he stopped trying to talk to her.

After a while of standing still and letting himself be worked over and talked at, the woman, he didn't remember if she'd even said her name, pulled a mirror over and showed him what work had been done. And to her credit, it was awesome.

If you want to make a perception check to try and work out who may have been listening in to the Career's conversation, feel free to do so. I'll let you know what you notice based on your roll.

Also, if you want to move on to RPing the first evening after training, feel free to do so. It can be either here or in the joint IC depending on whether you want to include Jibril or not.

Throughout his conversation with the other career's, James gradually becomes aware of several of the other tributes trying to listen in. At various points in their quiet chat, he notices Trefoil, Alex, Thestor, Ianthe and Kevin all doing their best to work out just what the four are talking about. Quite what they've managed to hear, however, is another matter entirely.

James steps into the gymnasium, looking up at the men who were to judge him and give him the score that would determine if he'd be able to garner the attention of Sponsors. He looks at the availability of the equipment in the room and nods to himself. Easy enough to know what to do. "I'd like to request a special demonstration." After getting it cleared, James stands in the middle of the room and has a peacekeeper aim a bow at him. He nods to confirm it and the peacekeeper fires at him. James lets the arrow gets extraordinarily close to him before his hand nearly blurs with the speed required to move to the arrow and knock it out of the air. He invites the peacekeeper to fire twice more, each time knocking a solid shot out of the air before it could strike him.

The next thing he shows off is his martial prowess. He brings himself to the front of one of the dummy's and takes a breath. Then he lashes out. He holds his hands into points, and strikes first at the dummy's neck separating the head from the torso almost instantly. His other hand hits the head before it has a chance to hit the ground, pushing straight through it before he slings it to the ground. Then James folds his hands into fists and strikes first at the dummies leg and snapping it in half. The next strike hits true but deals no damage to the dummy's torso. He then opens his hands and strikes again with an open palm. Again no damage to the torso, it was just too hard for hands to damage. His last strike goes slightly too high, and he scratches the palm of his hand against the splintered remnants of the neck. He curses and spits on the dummy before abandoning it in favor or something else.

The last skill James decides to demonstrate is his ability to climb. It was unfortunate, then, as the blood from the cut on his hand made climbing nearly impossible. He tried to climb up the wall twice, scrabbling to keep a hold on it and falling off. It was on the third attempt that he managed to make his way up, and he thought he did so rather well himself. But he knew he blew it at this point. If he got a 7, he'd be surprised. If there had been targets that could bleed, maybe that would have changed it.

After that, he left, scowling and generally putting off a vibe of being in a foul mood.

James stands on his pedestal and stretches in the cold air. This was it. If he survived the rush, he'd be good for at least a day or two. Until the rest of them started killing each other anyway. But that was only going to distract him right now. He need to focus and get into the game. The game was tag. He was it. He was always it. And the person he tagged was going to die. Every person he tagged would. That's how the game was going to be played. If he wanted to win, that is. And he just didn't want to lose.

Which meant he'd have to win. He grinned to himself on the pedestal. It was going to be an effort, but had a good feeling. He knelt down and assumed a sprinting posture. But, instead of aiming for the Cornucopia, he aimed himself at his nearest opponent: Kijin. It was sad she got stuck so close to him, but that was something that he'd have to grieve over later. He waits for the timer to tick down, completely unmoving as he psyched himself out.

The moment it hits zero, he charges Kijin, coming in low to aim for a softer, more vital parts. He brings his hand into a point, trying to deal as much damage as possible.

Deals damage every one of Kijin's turns until she passes a DC 15 heal, right?

Does that also mean you don't re-apply it with your own attacks?

Jacior
2014-11-19, 12:29 PM
No, I reapply it with my attacks every time I hit. But it doesn't stack with itself. She just takes 1d4 damage at the start of her turn until the heal or like a spell or potion

James frowns at the still conscious gnome. He'd wanted her to go down already. She was tougher than appearances made her seem and that wasn't good. He wanted to remove two people from the fight while he could. The rest would run off too quickly... But could he risk revealing his skills yet? Right now he could still pass it off as some informal training... If she ran though... Would she be smart enough to try and heal herself? Could she even? It was better not to leave it up to chance. He reels back and swings his fist almost straight down on Kijin's head.

SHE JUST WOULDN'T FALL! WHY WOULDN'T SHE JUST STOP? SHE HAD TO KNOW BY NOW SHE WASN'T GOING TO MAKE IT IF SHE KEPT FIGHTING HIM! Why didn't she run or give up or something?! She just kept trying to fight back! He grunted as she managed to land one hit on him and frowned. He'd wanted to avoid taking any hits, but it didn't seem that was possible. Then he heard Willow and Weaver call out and he looked to see Kevin pummeling on them.

He grabbed the gnomes shirt and brought her face close to his. "Run. Away. Now. Or. I. Will. Kill. You." James lets her go and literally sprints towards Kevin. There was a difference of fighting for your life and taking pleasure in it. Kevin was going too far.

Grabbing shirt for fluff purposes, not a grapple. Going to use a Run action to get as close to Kevin as possible.

Kevin made a huge mistake in ignoring James. And an even bigger one going after the kids from 8. He charges the other member of 10 with a certain bit of rage in his eyes. There was no reason to go after them. The cold would have gotten to them first... The look he gives her is enough to say that he wouldn't care about their deal. "If you're so desperate to kill someone, why don't you go take the final strike on the gnome girl? She won't live much longer either way." As he speaks, he flips Kevin over onto his back. "Let's see how you like it, bastard." "Well, I knew you wouldn't get too far, gnome." James murmurs to himself. He sighs and shakes his head as he walks over to the prone form. He squats down and sees if she's breathing before clasping his hands together and saying a small prayer. After he finishes, he grabs her head with both hands and twists it hard, hopefully snapping it instantly and making sure she was truly dead.

After that, he searches her corpse for any sort of trinket she might have brought with her and pockets, before heading back to the Cornucopia.

James finds the young Gnome to be still breathing, though with increasingly shallower breaths. The muscles of her neck provide more resistance than he first expected, but nonetheless her neck cracks with a wet, gristly noise. Within her suit, James finds a simple wooden carving. The words are illegible, written in some language that he doesn't recognise. A simple string hoop is tied through a hole in the wood, presumably to allow it to be worn around the neck. For whatever reason, she had chosen to keep it in her pocket rather than wear it at the start of the games.

Jacior

James shudders at the sounds. But it was a better death than slowly bleeding out. That was reserved for the dwarf. He sighs and holds the carving in a closed hand for a moment before sticking it in his pocket. He then goes to find the other corpses and strips them of their trinkets as well.
