As you awake to the dawn of a new day, realisation hits you. This is it, the time has come for the Reaping of the 73rd Hunger Games. This has always been an unforgettable day throughout your life. For some reason, today has you feeling particularly nervous, dread filling your stomach.

You rise and dress smartly, wearing the best clothes you have. As you leave your house, you join the growing throng of people filing towards the reaping itself. Peacekeepers line the way, their immaculate white uniforms and faceless helmets keeping you from recognising any of them. Their presence presses in on you, reminding you of the harsh reality. Two children are going to their deaths. Not today, but because of the events set in motion on this day. The thought hangs over everyone like a smothering fog.

Just like all the other children in the district, you line up with those of the same age as you. Girls on one side, boys on the other. Your blood is taken by a peacekeeper at a desk, checking you in. The older children put on a brave face for the benefit of those that are younger, but everyone is afraid.

Standing on the stage, stationed between two bowls filled with names, is a young man dressed in a suit that ill suits him. He seems to have done his best to dress formally, but lacks the knowledge of just how that should be. He fidgets as he waits for everyone to file in, a big smile plastered on his face as he waits...

Please post your character's general appearance and his/her mannerisms as the reaping takes place. How it goes down is completely up to you.

Along with all the other children his age, Antogg just stood there watching. The reaping. It was inevitable and there was nothing that he could do to avoid them. Looking at him people would think that Antogg was calm but actually he was resigned. He did not quite care about would get chosen today and if it was him...there was nothing else to do. That was the cost of it. The cost of extra tesserae that he has been taking over the years for him, for his family.

Antogg chuckled looking at how out of place the young man was in his clothes. It was just as bad as the half orc himself dressed in a plain collared shirt and pant obviously doing the minimum he would need to look like the rest of the children herded into the reaping. With a yawn, Antogg continued to wait for the young man to get on with the day's activities and choose who was going to die for the district this year.

The man on stage moves through his speech haltingly, as disorganised as his clothes. At last, he announces "And now, our, ah, our first tribute!"

The drama of the moment is marred somewhat by his stutter. He heads over to the bowl holding the name slips of the girls. Dipping a hand in, he rifles through the papers for a few moments before pulling out one of the slips. Opening it up, he glances up at the assembled girls as he reads it out. "Liss O'Malley!"

There's a stir amongst the assembled girls, there always is when a tributes name is called. People trying to distance themselves from those chosen. Nobody is forthcoming, however. The display screens either side of the stage are vainly trying to pick out the tribute for this year. "Liss O'Malley? Don't be shy now, girl."

At last, a particularly small girl pushed her way out of the crowd. The camera's finally find their target, showing the young halfling to the world. She makes her way to the stage, face betraying no obvious emotion. Her diminutive stature is only emphasised as she stands next to the Capital man. For his part, the escort gives a false looking smile to the crowd and walks over to the second bowl. "And now for the boys..."

You're welcome to continue the description from here. You can decide how Antogg is chosen, his reaction to it and his reaction to Liss being chosen. You have control of the escort in order to do so.

"Just get on with it" Antogg thought to himself at the young man's delays. For the people in The Capitol, the reaping and the games were sort of entertainment but here in the districts, it was a matter of life and death. He felt this year it would be the latter for the district. The girl tribute. She was so small! Surely the other districts would be looking at their screens and sizing her up now. District 1 and 2 must surely be happy.

And then it was the boys' turn. Antogg showed no enthusiasm either. While he did take tesserae to have his name appear more times, his family was smaller than most of the other boy's he knew. They would surely be chosen before him. It was a matter of numbers and Antogg kept his eyes fixed on the stage where all the life of the event was. Once, twice, thrice. The name was repeated but he could not have believed it was his.

"Damn..." he muttered to himself before the boys around him which he knew parted to give him room to reach to the front.

Muttering under his breath, Antogg is escorted up to the stage by a group of peacekeeper's. Though he doesn't need to be dragged up, the peacekeepers walk close around him to make sure he doesn't try and get away. Once he's on stage, the Capital man takes your hand and raises it, doing the same with Liss. The size difference between the two of you makes the maneuver look more comical than impressive.

"District 6, I give you your tributes."

A smattering of half-hearted applause echoes around the crowd, probably more in relief at not being chosen than support for the latest pair of tributes. The man leads the pair of you inside. As you walk, he talks to the both of you. "You'll have a chance to say some goodbyes before we leave for the Capital. I'll be meeting you on the train. Liss, this room's for you."

He leaves the diminutive Halfling girl at the door of her room, continuing down the corridor with Antogg in tow. Before very long, he stops outside another door. "And Antogg, this is for you..."

The room itself is bare, the only decoration is a few chairs. A pair of peacekeepers stand guard outside the door, likely to keep you from trying to escape.

"These two, ah, fine gentlemen will take you to the train once you're done."

With that, the man wanders off further down the corridor.

You're free to play out any interactions with family members or friends at this point, you have full control of any NPC's you choose to introduce here. You can move onto the train whenever you're ready.

The half orc looked around the room fairly disappointed. There was nothing in it at all. "The least they could have done is give us something to remember the last few moments in our district by". A thought he later voiced out to his father after his mother has finished crying about their son becoming a tribute. Antogg looked towards his mother, some distaste with the way she approached his current predicament and said:

"I'm sorry that your only son has to become a tribute. Its not like I was given a choice for this honor." That was not fair of course but then if he had to get tesserae to keep the family comfortable, surely his parents has had to have expected the possibility of this happening. "Don't worry, I'll try to keep myself alive for as long as possible for you to see me on the screen." Keep himself alive, not win. The winner would most likely be district 1 or 2 as usual and unlike him, they would have loved this so called honor.

His father was not too happy with how Antogg decided to let his mother remember him by and yelled something along with tossing a chair to the wall. The half orc looked at the door, assuming that the peacekeepers might come in somehow and decided to beat them to it and headed towards the door himself. Passing his father he said in a soft voice hoping that his mother would not catch it...

"If he comes in, tell him to look out for me in the games and watch me until the end..." Antogg knew that his brother in name would know what he means. There was a reason why Antogg had a disgusted expression on his face when he said that. The human, saying that he would have the half orc's back did not even do anything when Antogg's name was called. Was Antogg expecting his 'brother' to volunteer? No, not really but the stronger and more capable human would have been a far better candidate to survive the games than he would be.

Facing the Peacekeepers at the door, he told them "I am ready to go now" without looking back to take what could be his last glimpse of his family.

The Peacekeeper's look at you as you come out, their faceless helmets preventing you from seeing their expressions. After a second or two, one of them nods and says "Come this way, please." He leads the way down the corridor whilst the second waits for a few moments and follows behind you. Before long, you reach the train itself. One of the car doors is open, the Peacekeeper's ushering you onboard.

Once inside, you're struck by the opulence of the train. An oaken table, covered in various drinks and foods, is surrounded by soft chairs and sofa's. Sitting in one of these chairs is the wraith-like Adleine. One of District 6's victor's, she won the games almost a decade ago now. Rumours abound about her past abuse of morphling. Though she doesn't appear to be on the substance right now, her body is quivering ever so slightly. As yet, nobody else is in the car with you. Looking up at you, Adleine hesitates for a moment before she speaks, "Oh, you're the new tribute?"

Her voice quavers a little as she speaks, betraying her shakiness.

You now have a shared IC (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?357770-IC-District-6&p=17655412#post17655412) for yours and Liss' use.

"Focus on your basics, but we can talk more when you get back. I'm sure that's uncomfortable for you to wear..."

Once Antogg returns to his room, he finds a wide array of clothing already sized to fit him in there. The bedroom is just as luxurious as the rest of the apartment, it even contains a flat screen showing a scene from somewhere within District 6. As he's getting changed, Antogg can hear snippits of conversation drifting down the corridor from the dining area. It sounds like Liss has already returned to the common room.

If you're returning to the common area, post in the joint IC thread what you'll say on arrival.

Antogg's broken out of his reverie by a soft knock on his room's door. "Antogg, are you in there?" It's Adleine, her voice sounds tired, though that may just be the muffling effect of talking through a door, "Can I come in?"

Antogg looks up and stares at the door for a few moments before getting off the bed and headed to the door. He was considering whether he should answer when Adleine continued asking about whether she could come in and then he opened the door and stepped through it.

"Yes, no" he said closing the door behind him. It was not like he did not want anyone in his room but he did not want anyone in his room and "it would be a lot better to do what we need to outside instead of that suffocating room. What do you need?"

Adleine shrugs and takes a couple of steps back, leaning against the wall of the corridor behind her. Now that Antogg can see her, she looks fairly deflated. "I just wanted to check on you, it's normally quite a shock being taken from your home and being thrust into the spotlight," The concern in her voice is obvious, "Mainly I just wanted you to know that I'm here to help if you need it."

Now that he's outside his room, Antogg can hear the voices of Liss and Hannock faintly down the corridor. They're too distant to make out what they're saying. The noise of approaching footsteps follows shortly, Liss returning to her room.

No need to react to Liss' approach if you don't want to, if you do, post it in the District 6 joint thread.

The half orc snickered before correcting Adleine that "the shock isn't getting taken from home or being in the spotlight. Its getting taken away to be murdered by a bunch of other kids that are as unfortunate as me." After thinking for a bit he continued "and help me with what? I myself don't even know what I am supposed to do from this point on. Anyway we all already know the odds for a person from a non career district like me in the games. Not in my favor" unlike the quote famously used by everyone else.

Adleine grimaces at Antogg's more brutal assessment of his situation, "It's not impossible, Hannock and I are proof of that..." It almost seems like there's something more that she wants to say, but isn't. She sighs, "If you want me to just leave you to your own devices, I can. To put it bluntly, though, you won't survive by feeling sorry for the situation you're in."
