As you awake to the dawn of a new day, realisation hits you. This is it, the time has come for the Reaping of the 73rd Hunger Games. This has always been an unforgettable day throughout your life. For some reason, today has you feeling particularly nervous, dread filling your stomach.

You rise and dress smartly, wearing the best clothes you have. As you leave your house, you join the growing throng of people filing towards the reaping itself. Peacekeepers line the way, their immaculate white uniforms and faceless helmets keeping you from recognising any of them. Their presence presses in on you, reminding you of the harsh reality. Two children are going to their deaths. Not today, but because of the events set in motion on this day. The thought hangs over everyone like a smothering fog.

Just like all the other children in the district, you line up with those of the same age as you. Girls on one side, boys on the other. Your blood is taken by a peacekeeper at a desk, checking you in. The older children put on a brave face for the benefit of those that are younger, but everyone is afraid.

Standing on the stage, stationed between two bowls filled with names, a young looking woman with bright purple hair looks out over the assembling children with a warm smile...

Please post your character's general appearance and his/her mannerisms as the reaping takes place. How it goes down is completely up to you.

Sheila was dressed in her best pair of pants and shirt for this event. She never got why she had to dress up for this. If she was chosen it didn't really matter how well she was dressed and if she wasn't chosen then it didn't matter how she dressed.

Penny the Shatterer. Maybe once the lady would have been surprised by the name but after this many times it wasn't that big of a surprise. Her parents just looked angry at this point with a gnashing of their teeth. Sheila looked over at her sister and frowned. If their family wanted to go on they needed at least one of them to get by and Penny was right at the limit right now.

I volunteer. Sheila said as she moved forward. Sheila the Shatterer she whispered to the caller. It wasn't great but at least Penny could continue on the family.

Just to clarify, "the Shatterer" is their last name. It comes from their orcish great grandparents.

The peacekeepers moved in to guide Sheila to the stage, but she went of her volition and they became a sort of honour guard. Eleeza, the escort, smiled warmly as Sheila muttered her name.

"Oh deary, that was very brave," she whispered.

"Our female tribute, Sheila the Shatterer, a volunteer!"

Greetings! I'm district 7's DM and so I will be running your personal thread.

I'm just waiting for Odath's player to make his intro post, then I'll post it here. In the meantime, feel free to describe any visitors you have prior to leaving for the capital, and your conversations with them (feel free to control all that).

We'll move on to the journey to the Capital once you're both ready.

Sheila is guided to the train, a sleek bullet like object that has nothing in common with the rest of district 7. She has to stoop to enter, and finds herself in a lavishly appointed living room. Odath, a half elf with a dark look in his eyes follows behind her and Eleeza flits about the pair of them, offering condolences whilst trying to remain upbeat.

Neither tribute looks particularly keen about being mothered however, and are conveniently saved by the arrival of their mentors. Blight is a middle aged man with firm muscles beneath his loose, district style clothing. He smiles kindly at the two tributes whilst appraising them silently. Behind him comes Joanna Mason, flighty and capricious, wearing a tight fitting garment that is so risque it must have come from the Capitol. She glances at Sheila and has to look upwards in order to take in her size and grins, though it is impossible to know what she is thinking.

"Welcome," Blight says in a fatherly way, "Eat, settle down, there's a long journey ahead of us." Plates of food are brought out and laid on the table; the kind of luxurious Capitol food the tributes have only heard about.

Sheila went right for the meat in the food. She ignored anything that looked sweet at all. She never understood why anyone could possibly prefer sweets to good meat. She settled down for the trip to the capital. She scratched her cheek as she chewed on some meat as she waited to see if the other tribute would approach her or not. It would be much better for her if they did but there was no way she was going to approach him. She wondered if the mentors would start talking about the games during the trip or wait until they got to the Capitol

There is a lot of conditions on this so I will try not to edit this post to show that these conditions were not changed after the rolls were made. First, Sheila is going to be cutting herself for three damage (Sadly, we did not level or this would be a lot more impressive :(), if not allowed before hand or it takes a display, don't do it. Then she is entering a rage and doing a flurry of maneuvers with a greatsword if flurry of maneuvers is not allowed for some reason go for the first one and add one to the accuracy. Do we need to make called shots before hand? If so, head, legs, dummy, dummy, neck, head.

When Sheila is brought into the chamber she bows deeply, careful to show her wounds to the judges. She then picks up a greatsword and her eyes suddenly widen in rage. She snarls at the dummy and puts all her training to the test. She brings the greatsword swinging around into the skull of training dummy shattering it into a million pieces. She than turns around and tries to whack the legs out from underneath the dummy but it just bongs off as the flat side connects instead of the edge. That seems to just make her more mad. She brings the blade again cutting the dummy in half with a single cut. She grins, turns and does it again to another poor dummy.

She lets out a mighty roar before throwing the greatsword away. She brings her fist into the neck of the dummy and there is a loud cracking noise as her fists smash through easily and the head spins off across the room. She then smashes her head into the head of the next dummy and it caves in like an egg. She bows again to the judges with the anger still apparent in her eye. She than stomps off and those of the judges who were paying close attention would see that her wounds were healed.

In total 7 dummies destroyed in 18 seconds. Pretty good. Sheila thought, smiling to herself as she started calming down.

Following Sheila's final evaluation, she's directed back to her shared apartment. Once there, she finds Blight waiting for her in the common room. He glances up at her entrance, sitting up straighter. "There's some time before the results are shown, how do you think you did?" There's a note of concern in his voice as he asks.

Once the results finish playing, Blight turns the screen off. Rubbing the back of his neck, he turns to his two charges and comments "Pretty impressive work, there. You've given me a lot to work with."

Pretty good, destroyed five dummies in eighteen seconds, four with a greatsword and two with my bare hands. Hope my mildly poor training scores don't matter much.

--------------------------------------

Bah, I bet if I hadn't done so badly in training I would have had an eleven. Were the scores very high this year or were they just playing it up? What would the average be on a normal year? Also it looks like we have an alliance with Sel. She seems to dislike Lox a lot, I think he may anger a lot of people.

Comissar
2014-10-15, 04:37 AM
Blight raises an eyebrow, "I wouldn't call a 10 a bad score. The judges tend to be fairly consistent with their scoring across the years, so you must've earned it." He looks back at the blank screen, a frown creasing his face, "But there are a lot of high scorer's. You're going to want to be careful out there."

Belatedly, the mention of an alliance causes him to react, "The girl from 12? Her score was fairly average for this year's lot, you sure you want to team up with her?"

Hamste

Yeah, she actually bothered to learn about my family and her very first comment was on it and not on the games themselves. I find that pretty respectable. Besides, people are not exactly lining up to ally with us. Sheila said.

We have a general means to meet each other. She is going to try to take stuff from the center because she says she is fast while I go the other way. She signals and then the way I go depends on the signal she give.

Blight nods, "And if she leads you into a trap? It's an unpleasant thought, but one you need to consider."

I'll give you the ones that have been posted so far, I'll add in the others once they're up.

Athena - Athena is oozing confidence, she seems to genuinely believe everything she's saying.

Goelev - Goelev is equally honest, though his ego seems less inflated than Athena's.

Jibril - As with the other career's, Jibril sounds confident in herself and is honest with Caesar.

James - James is equally honest, though nerves are showing. He almost seems to be shaking as he exits the stage.

Tempra - Tempra is clearly anxious. Whenever she's uncertain of herself, she glances off stage towards where, presumably, Chester is standing. The relief in her face when Caesar allows her to leave is undeniable.

Chester - Chester seems almost disinterested with the whole interview. The only part that seems to have elicited any real reaction is Caesar's apparent mis-interpretation of his reaping.

Ianthe - Ianthe is upbeat and genuinely seems to want to be at the interview. There is method in her conversation, however. She deliberately tries to play to the crowd, getting them onto her side.

Thestor - Thestor seems much more uncomfortable about being in front of a big crowd. His comment about wanting to watch District 4 closely seems like a bluff, not something he fully believes.

Hayl - As with Ianthe, Hayl seems to be trying to play the crowd. Her demonstration of magic at the end of her interview clearly a big part of that. Her casual mention of Alex giving her private training appears to be genuine.

Alex - Alex seems less interested in playing the crowd and more interested in trying to pierce the conceit of the Capital. The majority of his answers are evasive, but he appears to be honest about Hayl.

Liss - Liss seems oddly detached from the interview, her responses almost seem like they've been learned by rote rather than being something genuinely expressed. She seems genuinely confused when Caesar asks her more unusual questions.

Antogg - Another nervous interviewee, Antogg doesn't seem to want to be on stage at all. It appears to be less to do with stage fright and more to do with the whole experience.

Odath - Odath appears to be bluffing. Though he claims to not be worried about any of the tributes, his confidence seems forced.

Willow - Willow seems terrified at first, but she's easily distracted by Caesar's line of questioning.

Weaver - Weaver seems similarly scared, though he proves more difficult to distract. Instead, his attention seems to keep flickering over to where Willow has left the stage.

Comissar
2014-11-10, 06:20 PM
Camile - Camile seems genuinely surprised when Caesar brings up the troubles she ran into. She also seems to be conflicted about her opinion on Solomon.

Solomon - Solomon appears to be hiding details about the events of his reaping. He is otherwise honest in his answers.

Kijin - Kijin is very clearly unwilling to co-operate. Her answers give a bare minimum response, leaving Caesar to do most of the work.

Kevin - Kevin is playing up to the audience, probably to try and win them over to his side. That said, he does seem to genuinely have a soft spot for one of the female tributes.

Trefoil - Trefoil's attention flickers to where Kevin was every now and again. Her responses to Caesar do not consistently seem to be genuine, though her planned strategy appears to be.

Talas - Talas is evidently uncomfortable with the large crowd watching him. The majority of his focus seems to be just to ensure he's able to reply to Caesar's questions.

Sel - Sel's refusal to show any real emotion appears to be a carefully calculated strategy. Her reference to a mysterious ally is, presumably, a reference to Sheila herself.

Lox - Lox is insane.

Then I hope I can beat her with whatever ambush she sets up. I could try soloing it but lets face facts, survival even with two people is difficult. Three makes it easier at least.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After seeing the show.

Hmmm, I have some theories on my competitors. For one I think Hayl either can't cast spells or is a very weak spell caster. She scored a seven and her using "magic" near the end was odd. There was much more entertaining things spell casters she could have done. Sel said she could so something more impressive as a signal and that seems to be quite weak. Why didn't she do something more impressive? Why show us magic at all? She wants to reassure us that she is magical to get more crowd support and to make us weary of fighting her but she can't do the strong stuff.

If Sel says she is good continue to run if she doesn't run towards her.

I think I made a slight mistake with my sheet but it hasn't mattered yet I think. I thought Maneuver Master used the same wording as flurry of blow but it is an additional attack and it replaces my BAB for it so it would be like when I attacked I would get +2 bab/+1bab instead of +3/+3.

Also if she is specializes in tripping and disarming this is going to be hilarious against any martial character :P

Sure, probably better than my fists. Think Odath is going to be ok? Second, what should we do now? We need to get some shelter preferably near a source of wood and food to cover our most basic needs, knowing the hunger games this isn't the coldest it is going to get. The forest seems most likely but it also seems like it will be the thing with more...surprises in it. The mountain will make it harder for us to cook food or warm up but it would also allow us to better defend ourselves. Of course given enough time I could make a nice palisade from trees for defense but who knows how long that would take. You know how to use a quarterstaff or club? We could make you one of those...possibly a few for me as well, you would be surprised how useful extra weaponry is. The blanket is going to be nice but not sure what we are going to need a knife for. I have an idea for how to get some armor and shields but without the appropriate tools it could take weeks to do and even with the tools it takes a long time. I say we settle in for a long game, get defenses set up and see who can out last who. It would be so much easier with Odath though. Sheila says holding the longsword easily in one hand for now.

Sel listens silently for most of Sheila's speech. When she finishes, she shakes her head. "We're going to have to assume he's gone. We can't rely on there being anything but the two of us."

She glances at the forest, "The woods are an obvious place to go. But... They're an obvious place to go. I don't think we could get the time we needed if we sheltered there. I can fight with my fists, you don't need to worry about that."

She sighs, "I've only seen water in the forest so far, though. We could melt the snow, but we'd need to make a fire for that."

So the water is in the forest, the food is most likely to be in the forest and warmth is in the forest but you want to go to the mountain? Sure we will need to deal with more people and those will be the people most likely to want to kill people but it is also the place that seems the easiest to survive. Though if need be I could make a nice refuge in the stone. Not the main thing my family focused on but I could carve a place big enough for us to sleep in under half an hour if we need me to. Even less time if you don't care about being cramped in there with me or if one of use keeps watch outside. A pick would speed things up massively but my fists can do it. Though I don't know much about mining so we would need to be careful, last thing I want is to be crushed under stone because I punched a wall too hard. We might want to move a bit more first though to see if we could find a place with some nice cover. If you don't want to live in the woods we should at least be an easy walk from the woods though. Almost everything we need is in there.

In case you are curious, I did the math out and accounting for misses on a natural 1 I can carve out a five foot spot in 13 and a half minutes

Sel shrugs, "I figure the first day's most dangerous. Everyone's all in one place early on, as long as we can get clear we'll be ok for-" She abruptly stops, a look of surprise and shock on her face. The reason why is obvious enough, the blade in Sheila's hand is no longer as clean as it was. Though Athena's use of it had left some blood on the sword, there suddenly seems to be a significant amount of it running down the metal. Thick globs of the liquid splat to the snow between them. Mere moments later, a cacophony of shrieks and yells of pain begin to issue forth from the weapon. Sel steps back in surprise, a look of muted horror on her face.

The sound is the result of a spell, though the knowledge does not make the noise any less horrifying.

It takes her a moment to compose herself, though her breathing sounds strained. "It's not real..." She seems to be saying it more for her benefit than anything, "It's just a spell, someone's just cast a spell on it..."

You're now out of combat rounds. More on what that means in the main OoC soon.

Though overwhelmed, Sheila manages to hear Sel rush forward to face the pair's assailant. A heavy sounding thud announces that one of the two has landed a blow on the other.

I'm awaiting a check from Solomon's player before I can complete this update, thus only a partial update for you I'm afraid. But one less round for your stun/blind duration all the same.

Initiative order is; Sheila, Sel, Solomon.

Though clearing slowly, Sheila's head is starting to clear. She's able to make out the sounds of fighting moving away from her. Footsteps in the snow becoming that little bit more distant.

That's another round ticked by. Sorry that you got disabled like that, I know it's a bit sucky when you can't do anything in a fight :-/

As Sheila's senses return, she realises she can no longer hear the sounds of fighting. Instead, there's a long silence before trudging footsteps come back to her.

"Hey, Sheila? Are you ok?"

I think we can safely call the combat at an end there, so you're welcome to shake off Colour Spray now.

Sel shakes her head, "No, landed a couple of hits, but he got away. Pulled some trick that made him invisible, which isn't good." She glances up the mountain, and then across the plains to their right, "The mountain gives us a good vantage point, but we might also be easier to spot."

Sheila looks down at the snowy ground and back at Sel before looking back down. Erm, you realize you could just have followed the tracks right? There is snow everywhere around here. The mountain also slows us down and offers more ambush spots. I say we walk along the edge until we feel we have walked far enough and then you gather wood while I make a place for us to sleep. If we have time left we should also gather some water and food. If not we will have to wait till tomorrow for that. Sheila says as she continues to walk.

Assuming the mountain is rough terrain I will walk on the edge between it and the forrest. If it isn't walk in the mountain squares then

Sel gives Sheila an unimpressed look when she brings up footprints in the snow. Rather than say anything, she simply nods and turns to walk along the forest edge. She hasn't gone very far when she suddenly pauses, holding up a hand to indicate that Sheila should do the same. A quizzical look has crossed the young half-elf's face. Turning her head slightly to one side, she appears to be listening intently. Her attention turns to the forest to the south, her posture shifting to a combat stance. Quietly, she mutters, "We have company again. Try to keep quiet."

Can I get a perception check please? You'll get a re-roll thanks to Sel's warning.

Sel keeps a wary eye on Trefoil, but the girl from eleven seems content to pass the two by. Skirting northwest, Trefoil keeps to the edge of the forest. After watching her for a few moments, Sel mutters "Come on, let's get out of here."

Though she's clearly still wary, Sel begins to back away to the north east, moving closer to the base of the mountain.

Neither Trefoil or Sel are looking to initiate a combat action, though that of course doesn't mean you can't.

Sheila closes the distance between herself and the girl from eleven rapidly. Her blade bites deep, carving through Trefoil's clothing and flesh almost as though it wasn't there. The only thing stopping the blow from cleaving fully through her arm is the bone. The metal of the sword grates along it, cutting free and spraying a wide arc of blood across the previously pristine snow. Through her rage, Sheila is vaguely aware of Sel muttering "Holy S**t..."

Awaiting Trefoil's response before I continue further. That said, I don't actually think she has a response she can reasonably make. So... Hey, you've probably got the first PC on PC kill :smalltongue:

She checks her work before picking up anything that could possibly be of use from her body including her uniform.

Though Trefoil had still been breathing after Sheila's initial blow, the second finishing strike removed all traces of life. The girl had been carrying a backpack, along with a simple wooden spear. The backpack, after a quick search, turns out to contain a 10ft. length of silk rope and an empty waterbottle. Sel stands silently a short distance behind Sheila.

Yeah, the standard issue clothing.

Let us go unless you wish to do something to the body before we leave. Also you want the spear? Sheila says examining the spear. It was curious how her competitor managed to make one that quickly with no tool and she wanted to check the quality of it.

Sel shakes her head, "I prefer having my hands free."

She turns and walks back toward the base of the mountain, motioning for Sheila to follow. As she walks, she glances back and comments "What are the chances of being followed, do you think?"

The spear looks almost as though it has grown into shape, the tip is entirely wooden but mimics the pointed head of a metal equivalent. The weapon is masterwork in quality, and doesn't suffer for being made of wood rather than sturdier materials. Even as Sheila is holding it, though, it is beginning to deform and shrivel away.

It was that guy from nine, though. Simon? Steven?" She shrugs, "Don't know, I'm not great with names. I only landed one proper hit on him, after that he ran."

She begins to walk with Sheila again, following the curve of the mountain round.

I figured when we are dead. If there are only the two of us we could just wait until one of us dies or one of us commits suicide. I'm mildly curious what they would send against us if we refused to fight. If they waited for us to starve it would be a really boring show to watch so they would have to send something interesting. Sel nods, "Sure." The two walk on a little further, "Here seems good."

She frowns, a question apparently on her mind. She keeps it to herself, however. Instead, she walks over to the waters edge. Hesitantly, she dips a cupped hand in. Cautiously lifting the water to her mouth, she takes a delicate sip. Almost immediately she spits it back out.

"Salt water. Not a good idea to be drinking it."

She stands again, her attention to the south once more. "Those were the only trees I saw, so I guess that's where I'm going for wood. Going to be ok on your own?"

I did the average damage awhile ago and got 13 and a half minutes to break a five foot section of stone. 900 hp and hardness 8. Average 14.5 with 2 attacks per round. 19/20*average damage is average damage accounting missing 1/20 times. Average 12.35 a round then after hardness. The result is actually 7.3 minutes. Not sure what happened with that 13.5 minutes though I might be forgetting something now. Using fists as I don't want to damage the short sword

Sel nods, heading southward to the forest. Sheila works dilligently and, though her progress is slow, she does manage to create a noticeable hole to shelter in. Between breaking down the rocks and clearing away rubble, the work takes her nearly an hour before she has a sizeable shelter. It's around this time that Sel returns, laden with branches. She looks impressed at the shelter that Sheila has managed to construct.

"I won't pretend to be good at hunting, but I wasn't able to see much of anything in the forest." She lowers her collection of branches to the ground, a thick resin still clings to some of the fresher looking pieces of wood.

So the digging has produced a 10x10x10 hole for you and Sel (assuming that was what you'd be aiming for). I'll be needing checks to avoid taking cold damage, details in main OoC shortly.

Imagine if I had a pickaxe instead of my bare hands. Here I always thought my family's training in punching things was ridiculous, I mean when would I ever not have the tools on hand to do the job? Turns out they were right it is useful...makes me almost wish I learned more of it beyond punching hard and dodging out of the way of trees. Do you have even the slightest idea of how to make mines safe? We could make a strategy around this I think. Sheila says frowning.

Hmmm, I can't imagine them not supplying even the slightest bit of food. Nothing in the trees looked edible? Maybe in the ocean or in the dirt? Anyways good job on gathering wood. We can light a fire put some snow in the flasks and put it near the fire to get water at least. The watcher has to keep a close eye on them though. Any idea if there is anything special about the sap on the trees? Maybe it is flammable or edible? I ate some sap where I came from but it was really bitter and I never really ate much of it.

Survival check to see if I know it is poisonous or a mildly safe way to test if it is poisonous [roll0]
Also after that is done DC15 [roll1] survival roll to see if I can give myself (and if I get a 16 or higher Sel)a +4 fortitude save (Staying in basically the same spot) vs. severe weather presumably it being cold enough to kill you is severe weather, the check can be made once per day whether it succeeds or fails but don't how long it takes to make the check. Also DC 15 check to see if I can predict the weather a day in advance every 5 I beat this by I get another day (Figure I would check just in case the game makers decided to go natural weather over spell made weather, this of course does not help if this is unnatural weather) [roll2]. Sel shakes her head slowly at Sheila's question about mine's. "Sorry, beyond putting support struts up I don't really know that much. And I don't know that it'd be that useful in this shallow a pit."

She sighs as she continues, "I didn't see anything in the forest that looked familiar, and I know that plants can be dangerous, so I just left it. All I really saw on the sea front was seaweed and the odd rockpool. Melting the snow sounds like a good idea, at least. We can go a while without food if we need to, but water's pretty vital."

The Sap doesn't look edible, and in fact looks like it may be mildly soporific when burned.

Looking at the way the clouds are moving, there seems to be much less sky visible now than there was. What this means for the weather, though, Sheila doesn't know.

Hamste
2015-04-04, 02:58 PM
Ah, it is ok. It just means I can't make the hole that much deeper and no lighting fires inside our hole. Anyways, we might not want to burn the branches with sap on them. It appears to be a type that causes tiredness when burned. Last thing we need is the person on guard duty falling asleep from huddling close to the fire. Though we might have some interesting uses for it. Maybe the seaweed is edible? Either way, we can check tomorrow. Right now, let us see if we can get a fire started here. With the clouds and mountain it should at least cover the smoke and with the cliff and trees around the area the light probably won't go too far so it should be safe at least for now...unless something is in the water at least.

Moving some of the sap covered branches into my backpack for later use (Covering with leaves to keep the back pack and contents from getting all sticky). Checking the other ones to see which ones seem to have sap in them that just hasn't seeped out before attempting to light the ones that don't on fire. [roll0] to rub two sticks together to light a fire/figure out another way to light them if that doesn't work. Also a fortitude save [roll1] (Extra +4 from survival added) vs DC 16 (Only fail on a 1) whoops forgot to add the +2 from the clothes. Noting this for future me.

Hamste
2015-04-08, 07:02 PM
You can't eat grass? I never really tested that. Mostly focused on finding food on the trees when the Tessera wasn't enough. I guess we won't really know until tomorrow when I do some tests of edibility. I figure anything that once was alive has a chance to be edible if not appetizing. It could also be horribly poisonous with a poison causes our bones to disintegrate but there is a reason why I do basic tests for it and when we do eat it we do it one at time with some time in between so if it is poisonous there is at least a chance the other sees it first or if they did eat it they can throw it up before it kills them. I will probably be the one eating first unless you have a problem with that due to it being my responsibility to identify the poisonous food.

...but Odath did not survive. Noticed the number of pairs? Only 2 out of the 10 were not in a pair from their district. Think there was a lot of team warfare? Trefoil wasn't with her team but they might have fought a team before hand. So at this point the careers make just under 50% of the remaining tributes. When do you think they will start killing each other? They will probably be going to bed soon and if they are burning the wood...hey, how is your night sight? I can see pretty good, in the dark. We need to do something about them and we could catch them with their pants down. Though I'm not exactly stealthy. "I am sorry for the loss of Odath, I was not trying to hurt your feelings by drawing attention to that. Nor am I pleased to see that Lox is still alive. He is... Unstable. As long as he is around I am going to be ill at ease."

She stares into the fire for a few moments longer before continuing, "I don't know if teams formed or not. Seems moot to wonder that about those who are already dead. But you have a point about the people still going. I can see ok at night, though only if it's not pitch black. I can move fairly quietly when I need to, too"

It matters because say two teams meet up and one team survives. Now say this happens twice. That means two teams would still alive but they are dead. Now what does that tell you about who remains? I imagine the pack are like a sleeping bear right now. They out match most teams and they know it so why risk themselves fighting? That means it is unlikely they killed a team unless they managed to get them in the initial blood bath. I killed Trefoil. That means there is at least a person or group of the 6 remaining that isn't us or the pack that have the ability to kill two people...or some other threat can. Anyways I think I am ready to head out when you are. We just put this fire out make sure you water is close to your body and we can head out.

Sel nods in mute agreement, walking further away from Sheila now. In the dimming light, Sheila becomes aware of a flickering glow not too far from her. A thin tendril of smoke winds its way skyward just a short distance south in the forest. Sel appears to have noticed it as well, as she glances up periodically at it.

Will delete past action post now.

Drawing closer to the smoke source, Sheila spots Camile and Solomon. The girl from district 9 is desperately trying to stir the boy, glancing in Sheila's direction every now and again with a worried expression. It would seem that she's aware of the impending danger. A sudden crack of a twig and the rustle of branches catches Sheila's attention, however. The sound is coming from off to her right, past where Trefoil's body lies. Something, or someone, is moving about there.

If you could make a perception check or me please (and a stealth if you wish to try and be stealthy)

To the south, Sheila sees Camile has managed to stir Solomon. The girl from 9 looks eager to run, keeping her attention focused north while Solomon rouses himself fully.

To the west, the trees and falling snow are making it difficult to discern just who is the source of the noise Sheila heard. A sharp intake of breath from Sel catches her attention. The girl from 12 is clenching her fists tightly, the knuckles white, as she stares intently in the direction Sheila heard the noise coming from.

"Lox..." she all but hisses.

Sheila's perception isn't enough to spot the noise's source, but drawing attention to it let Sel make a check. Sel's announcement of who she thinks it is will allow Sheila another attempt to spot the source.

With Sel's guidance, Sheila soon spots the boy from District 12. He's slowly moving toward them, currently unaware of the two girl's presence. Sel edges closer to Sheila, settling into a fighting stance. As the boy pauses by a tree, a loud commotion to the south by the fire catches his attention. As his head turns back to whatever it is he's doing, he seems to catch a glimpse of both Sheila and Sel.

You have a surprise round on Lox should you wish to take it. Sel is simply readying an action to attack Lox should he get within melee range. Also, please roll initiative (on the assumption that you're going to be fighting him).

Sheila starts moving forward until she is near Trefoil. She is already starting to froth in anger as she looks at Lox preparing to charge.

I think I can just make it to the square NW of Trefoil. Is there any chance you can make the squares a bit more defined? When it gets on the forest area it becomes difficult to see.

Starting to Rage, I can no longer stealth as it is a dex check. It is still DC 0 to see me so hopefully the range penalty makes it so the careers don't see.

Rage now beginning to cloud her vision, Sheila is only vaguely aware of Sel taking up a position a little way behind her. Ahead, Lox backs off a few steps, making enthusiastic gestures in the air and chanting to himself. His actions do not appear to achieve anything tangible.

Initiative order is Sel (on 12), Lox (on 5) then Sheila (on 3). Sheila's surprise action is her step forward to the northwest square of Trefoil's corpse, and so she still has an action to take. Sel's action this round is to move up near to Sheila. I've provided a close up of the map as well to help with grid visibility. If it's not useful, let me know and I'll try and make it more defined.

Sheila grimaces hoping he didn't do anything too bad and charges at Lox. Hopefully she strikes him down before he does something dangerous. As she swings heavily with her sword.

So to be clear I have a full rounds worth of actions left right? Surprise round was me moving and Sel readied. Then Sel moved and Lox did Lox things. If I misunderstand then this changes a bit. If there is rough terrain I just move up to him but it wasn't when I killed Trefoil so hopefully not. If there isn't a straight line I can just move and attack just subtract 2 from the attack and don't deduct 2 from my AC.

Charging forward, Sheila begins to hear a loud ringing noise, seemingly coming from nowhere. The effect does nothing to slow her, though, as she cleaves into Lox. The gaunt elf from District 12 crumples under the force of the blow, collapsing to the ground before Sheila's fury.

Even when Lox falls to the ground, the ringing continues. Some kind of magic, perhaps. Through the haze of anger, she becomes aware of new movement further ahead. The girl from District 1 stands in front of her, holding a shortsword loosely. Either side of her stand the two tributes from District 2. The girl with a longbow, the boy wearing a suit of leather armour.

"Well!" Athena grins mirthlessly, "This one ought to be fun!"

With a lazy twirl of her blade, she settles into a fighting stance. Watching both Sheila and Sel carefully.

Athena has an initiative roll of 15, and so is acting ahead of Sel, Lox and Sheila. Sheila's attack has knocked Lox into negative health but has not killed him, hence his continued inclusion in the turn order. I'm awaiting initiative rolls from James/Jibril. You can wait until you now their initiative's if you wish (I'll post them here ASAP) or you can post actions in the form of 'If X happens, then I'll do Y. If A happens instead, I'll do B'.

She by herself defeated a spell caster that caught us by surprise. Do you truly think you stand a chance? Even with the others trying to sneak up on us we will kill you all. Sheila froths in rage.

If they haven't taken the surprise round yet don't forget that they get one seeing we were unaware they were there (Unless they spoiled it by speaking/waited for us not to be surprised). Can't declare any actions as unsure if they are moving or not. Random guess on where the other three are.

In response to Sheila's declaration, Athena shrugs lightly "You know what they say, 'fool me once' and all that." As she talks, James eases himself into a fighting stance next to her. He seems to glance just over Sheila's shoulder briefly, right at the source of the ringing sound the girl from seven can hear, "You've had your once now."

Her voice suddenly drops to little more than a mutter. At this distance, though, the words are lost completely.

As Athena mutter's to her allies, Sheila becomes aware of Sel moving up beside her. The girl is standing in a defensive combat stance. With agitation obvious in her tone, she whispers "I don't know if we can take them, Sheila. They're going to be ready for me this time if I try to take her sword again."

Sheila frowns at the distance. They were just slightly out of her charge range. They have a bow and we are close to even numbers. We can't really run and this is our best chance at killing them. Sheila whisper to Sel. Sheila stabs downwards at Lox to sunder his clothes before moving forward.

Not sure if they did it on purpose but they are exactly 5 feet out of my charge.

My sunder check [roll0] no power attack, cloth generally has a hp of 2 per inch so I really doubt it could survive and it doesn't matter as I'm not injured yet but might as well roll.

As long as I don't roll a one I don't lose a round of rage this turn. You might also require them making a perception check to notice I didn't actually hurt Lox from that distance.

The career's watch impassively as Sheila cuts through Lox's clothing. The moment she begins to move closer, however, Jibril looses an arrow at her. The shot is hastily aimed, but still thuds home with painful force into Sheila's hip. With a look of irritation on her face, Athena firms up her grip on her shortsword and charges forward. With a powerful thrust, she plunges the sword into Sheila's side. This close, her Sheila can see that the girl's expression has turned to one of satisfaction. Without ceremony, the sword is yanked out of Sheila again as Athena turns her attention to Sel.

Too late to stop the charge, Sel rushes at the girl from district 1. Determined to aid Sheila, she moves to grab Athena's blade away from her. Seeing the incoming threat, Athena lashes out with her shortsword at the girl from twelve. Despite being ready for it this time, she's still unable to stop the younger girl turning her strength against her. With one hand on Athena's wrist, and another near her shoulder, Sel sends Athena tumbling into the snow for the second time in the day. Ignoring the career's muffled curses, Sel pressures the girl's wrist, forcing her to give up her bloodied Shortsword.

Jibril had a readied action to take a shot at whoever moved next, Sheila's taken 10 damage from that. Athena has been tripped, though she avoided becoming Sickened. She has also been disarmed, meaning Sel now has the Shortsword. It is now James' action in the turn order, which has changed to be as follows due to Jibril's readied action.

Athena (15)

You know no matter how dangerous Athena is I just can't take her seriously with Sel always tripping and disarming her :P. There is something really satisfactory about it. I really hope I never have to fight her. I have to say unless I'm mistaken I'm quite impressed with your design of Sel. I smell a flowing monk who purposefully uses disarm with out taking any feats to negate the AoO so when the opponent takes the AoO they can take the trip :P. If tripping wasn't so bad against non-human opponents and ac so hard to get high enough I might try that in an actual game (Still might try and figure that out but those trip defenses are horrific). If that isn't what is happening just erase this from your mind so I can use this for the next hunger games (assuming I'm still being the next GM for the next one)

Also because it will matter soon are we enacting any of the changes from unchained? I noticed both my classes got a buff in the update (and a slight debuff in saves for the monk) and I'm wondering if they take effect or not. Doesn't matter much to me either way.

It does seem to be a bit of a running theme, doesn't it? :smalltongue:

It helps that Sel is rolling far better than anything else I've ever tried to roll in the history of ever on these forums. Actually, Hunger Games in general seems to really like me when it comes to rolling. I remember in the last one my tribute did far better than she should reasonably have done.

I won't be implementing Unchained part-way through the game (if it were before the arena began, I'd have considered it, but it's a tad late to do it now). Specifically, I'd probably have used the 'Lower health = worse at fighting' rules, since those seem appropriate for this kind of game. But again, too late in the day for that now.

Also, I naturally can't comment on Sel's (or anyone else's) build.

Seeing their comrade so easily floored by Sel, the two tributes from District 2 fix their attention firmly on the Half-Elf. James is the first to react, rushing at the younger girl with bare fists. He takes a powerful swing at her, but Sel is able to handily evade such a telegraphed attack. Unfortunately, she is unable to take full advantage of James' now precarious position, pre-occupied as she is with keeping an eye on Athena.

Seeing James' failed assault, Jibril pulls back her bowstring. She aims briefly before loosing an arrow at the girl from twelve. Her shot strikes true, the arrow embedding itself just above Sel's collarbone. Letting out a yell of pain, Sel's free hand shoots to cup the wound.

I've noticed you tend to respond quickly when I do these updates (something I'm grateful for), so I'll give you the update up until your action so that you can decide what you're going to do rather than leave you uncertain of what to do by leaving the turn order with those less prompt with responses.

Sheila grins. It was unfortunate Sel got hurt but if they had been more focused on Sheila instead they would have been a lot a more effective. Sure she was ridiculously hard to hurt long term but being stabbed and shot still hurt a lot.

I take that as a no. Sel if you can, take out the one in the armor or delay him and make sure Athena doesn't get the sword.I will get the archer. Sheila says. She charges past Athena hoping she wasn't able to do any serious damage with her unarmed attacks to attack the archer. This time she aims at the weapon instead of the wielder to break both it and her hopefully her opponent's spirit.

Doing a charge action past Athena. If she threatens with her unarmed she can take an AoO. Then I attempt to sunder the bow. No Power attack

[roll0] to hit (PLEASE NO ONE), oooh close to a one but not a one. Hopefully it is enough.

[roll1] to damage. A projectile weapon (bow) has 5 hit points and a hardness of 5 (Which considering it is wood I should be able to over come with a slashing weapon but that is up to your judgement). I should destroy it everytime whether or not I over come hardness. I'm choosing to destroy it as I want my opponent to not have a ranged weapon more than I want a ranged weapon.

Sheila is able to surge forward past Athena without issue. She very nearly catches Jibril by surprise as well, but at the last second she catches the intent in her eyes. Jibril is able to dodge Sheila's attempted sabotage, though just barely. Behind her, Sheila hear's Athena yell "Give me back my bloody sword!"

Another thud into the snow followed by a stream of expletives suggests how well that went. She can also hear the sound of Sel and James each trying their best to hit the other. Without the sound of impacts, it sounds like they're evenly matched.

Ahead of her, Jibril ducks away from the raging Sheila and hurriedly draws back her bow again. The rushed aim is obvious enough as the arrow sails past her and thuds into a tree several feet away.

Sheila's sunder attempt was not quite enough to hit. As was the case with everyone's attacks this round. Back round to Sheila again!

Sheila's furious blows pay off, her blade rending through the bow Jibril holds and shattering the wood. The look of surprise Jibril gives Sheila is undeniable, it looks like her plans have been as irrevocably shattered as the bow.

Behind her, the sounds of fighting continue. There are fewer curses from Athena this time, it's possible that she's learned her lesson now. A couple of hard thuds signal the trading of blows. The heavy grunts that follow sound more male than anything, it seems Sel managed to land a few hits. It's followed soon after by a much harsher sounding punch, one that's accompanied by a sickening crack. Sel lets out a gasp of pain, but maintains her footing.

Given the maneuver Sheila just pulled, and the fact that Jibril's player just returned, I'm going to move it to Jibril's point in the turn order to give them a chance to respond to the sundering.

Although it's not relevant here with the second attack missing, how are you getting two attacks? I thought flurry (and similar) needed to be with monk weapons?

Athena is just keeping her distance this time. James and Sel have traded a few blows.

Here is the exact text

Flurry of Maneuvers (Ex)

At 1st level, as part of a full-attack action, a maneuver master can make one additional combat maneuver, regardless of whether the maneuver normally replaces a melee attack or requires a standard action. The maneuver master uses his monk level in place of his base attack bonus to determine his CMB for the bonus maneuvers, though all combat maneuver checks suffer a –2 penalty when using a flurry.

At 8th level, a maneuver master may attempt a second additional combat maneuver, with an additional –3 penalty on combat maneuver checks.

At 15th level, a maneuver master may attempt a third additional combat maneuver, with an additional –7 penalty on combat maneuver checks.

This ability replaces flurry of blows.

It is a different ability and makes no reference to monk weapons. Most likely because some combat maneuvers do not use weapons. I brought it up in the show off phase when I used a greatsword remember (I also pointed out later that I was mistaken on my too hit on that but it hadn't mattered to that point)

Sheila's wounds close up slightly as the bow shatters. What do you do now? It seems the careers are running out of weapons very quickly.

Excuse me for a lackluster IC post because of this being very conditional but I will try to do it.

If she draws another weapon or seems to be proficient with punches (not provoking when attacking) I'm going to continue to fight her (sundering and attacking). If not I charge James (The square one SW of Sel) and attack him.

If she provokes an AoO from running or punching I take it as a sunder on her clothes (or anything else more important than clothes she may have)

I will roll only 2 attacks on the off chance someone is reading this, and the attacks will have to be changed depending on what activates. That way if someone reads this they may be able to pick the best outcome still but they won't be able to pick the best set of rolls.

Sunder clothes or what ever seems most important like weapons or potions if I see them if I full attack her again (from her seeming to be proficient in unarmed combat or using another weapons) or she draws an AoO (I figure these are mutually exclusive most likely). If it is something that seems solid (like a one-handed or heavier weapon) subtract one from this roll and add 3 too damage for power attack. If full attack subtract 5 from too hit (2 from flurry, 1 from using my Monk level for my BAB and 2 for charge no longer applying)

[roll]1d20+13[roll]
and
[roll0]

And the attack roll if full attacking the female or charging the Male. Subtract 4 if it is me full attacking (2 for flurry and 2 for not charging).

[roll1]
and
[roll2] axe to grind and breaker does not apply to damage unless Sel somehow does not threaten him. If she doesn't then one more damage but that would be really really odd.

Angry as she is, Sheila barely seems to notice. Instead, she wrenches her arm away from the blade, trailing droplets of blood in the air as she does so. Grabbing her sword two handed, she plunges it through Jibril's sternum. The blade bites deep, fueled by Sheila's manic anger. The blade slides back out jerkily, grating against bone as it does so, leaving Jibril to collapse to the forest floor in a broken heap.

Meanwhile, Athena watches Sel warily, biding her time to strike until the girl is more vulnerable. While she watches and waits, Sel maintains her attention on James. She jabs at him twice more, but this time he's ready for her. The first blow connects with some force, but her second is deflected to one side. Her condition is visibly worsening, blood beginning to seep through her clothing from the injury James has inflicted on her. In retaliation to her attack, James lands a powerful blow right in her gut. The punch compounds her earlier bone fracturing, toppling the girl. Wasting no time, Athena snatches back her sword from the falling girl, stabbing it down into her throat in one fluid motion. Pulling her sword back out, she comes up into a standing position, her eyes locking onto Shiela. Her expression is one of cold fury.

No movement has occurred, so no new map. Athena delayed her turn until after James, making the new turn order as follows;

James (9)
Athena (9-)
Jibril (3+)
Sheila (3)

Sheila succesfully shattered the dagger, and rendered Jibril unconscious, although she did not kill her. Sel, on the other hand, has been killed through a combination of James' punch and Athena's finishing blow. Her canon will be fired next round.

...YOU KILLED SEL. Sheila says before charging at Athena. If it is possible she is even angrier than before. Again she aims at the sword however.

Sorry, noticed I didn't note the damage difference in my conditional post (I had meant to but it had been removed when the phrasing was working and forgot to add)

I did 3 less damage on each attack and was one more accurate because Power attack did not activate (as this was a full attack and did not charge) but axe to grind does activate as I was the only one who threatened her. So I did a total of 4 less damage. If she is still standing it doesn't change my action.

Also when you say I didn't feel the dagger do you mean it missed but you wanted a better way of saying it or I healed the same amount I lost from destroyer's blessing or something else. You didn't list any damage from it.

I'm sad that Sel died. I never got to have Sheila awkwardly caller her little sister or eventually commit suicide so Sel could win.

Anyways charging at Athena (One to the left of Sel's dead body) and sundering her sword. Power attacking here
[roll0]
for
[roll1] damage (I'm the only one who threatens Athena I believe)

Round of rage did not tick over of course because of the successful sunder of course. This fatigue when I stop raging is going to be horrendous.

Sorry, she dealt 4 damage. Which is the same amount you heal, I believe?

And yes, shame about Sel. Never mind, eh? :smalltongue:

Also so I'm clear, it is my turn right. I realized I'm not quite clear. Jibril's turn was right before mine and then my turn I knocked her out and then on their turn they killed Sel and so it is my turn right? Asking because if it isn't I will probably need a bunch of conditionals.

It's technically Jibril's turn, but she'll be busy trying to stabilise. So yeah, it's your turn here.

Athena's blade is moving even as Sheila charges. The two swords clash with a shrill grating sound. Athena grits her teeth, muscles straining to maintain control of the lock. She's forced to twist her blade, sending Sheila's sword grinding down her shortsword and sheer's through the weapon near the hilt. Sheila's sword continues through, powering into the empty air. A canon marks this, the noise blasting through the forest.

The sky lights up as the Panem anthem sounds out once again.

District 12:

Sel Ellene

The announcement goes unheeded by the two career's still standing. James rushes in, yelling "JIBRIL!" as he does so. He rushes in behind Sheila, anger fueling his swing. The blow connects with Sheila's side with alarming force. Athena gives Sheila no chance to catch her breath, moving into a flanking position with James, pulling out a knife as she does so. She thrusts her blade through Sheila's side, Sheila's clothing keeping the knife from digging too deep.

Sheila was unable to break Athena's shortsword, though she did take it down to 2 hitpoints.

James dealt 9 damage with his attack, and has also inflicted a bleed condition on Sheila. The first round of which has dealt another 3 damage (DC 15 Heal check to stop). Athena has then dealt an additional 5 damage, and has drawn a dagger in her off-hand (which she has not yet used). It's now technically Jibril's turn, but again, she's busy bleeding out right now. So go ahead and declare your actions :smallwink:

Can you tell me why the shortsword is still ok or is this a build thing? Usually it is a light blade and therefore has a hardness of 10 and hp of 2 so I should have overkilled it by 4. If it is magical then it still wouldn't work out right (The blade would have more then 2 hp left).

I guess I may be looking at the wrong bit? The table I'm looking at lists Light, Metal-hafted weapons as Hardness 10, HP 10?

Blades have their own section with a lot lower hp (Most likely because it is a thin sheet of metal) and a short sword is definitely a blade. I'm not sure what a metal hafted weapon would be. Maybe a club made entirely out of metal? Doesn't have a blade and made entirely of metal?

Ah, my mistake. I missed the blade part of the table, and you did indeed manage to break it. In which case, she's dealt 2 less damage to you and used her knife rather than her sword. The above IC post will be re-written to reflect this.

So in total after healing I took 11 points of damage.

Also I have a question on bleed. It say it can be stopped "through the application of any spell that cures hit point damage". However my healing is not from a spell. Does it still count for the purposes of stopping bleeding or does it not count? I figure I should clarify at least.

Either way it does not look good for old Shiela :P. At least I can try to kill them first.

While it's not a spell, I would consider other sources of healing (such as Regeneration or Fast Healing) to counter-act Bleed in the same manner and, therefore, Sheila can with her own healing. Bear in mind, however, that bleed damage ticks at the start of the turn. So she's still going to be taking that damage before she gets the chance to heal up.

Sheila cringes in pain. At least when she died she would get to be with Sel and her sisters. First she must at least try to live. She attempts to sunder the dagger before taking a slash at the male.

First attempting to sunder that dagger and praying she does not have another one. Power attacking this because I want the next attack to be power attack.

[roll0]
[roll1]

Then attacking the male (come on crit)

[roll2]
[roll3]

...well crud. Unless they both miss, I'm dead (or if I get hit and they roll a 1 on damage)

Also if possible a 5 foot step down just to mess with flanking. Didn't declare it initially so I figured I should stick it in a new post.

Wow, just realized I never included my gate crasher bonus to sunder checks this entire time -_-, I have 2 more on that last sunder check and it hurts knowing I might have succeeded on a failed attempt before.

Sheila's swings, desperate as they are, fall wide of their mark. Her attempt to move out from between the two is rewarded by a heavy strike from James. The blow feels like it breaks a couple of bones, white-hot pain lancing through her side. Athena follows after him, jabbing her dagger into Sheila. The blade slides into Sheila's abused body with minimal resistance.

Sorry, just a short flavour text update, too tired for anything spectacular. Sheila has taken 6 damage from James, another 6 damage from Athena and will suffer 3 more Bleed damage at the start of her next turn.

It is now Sheila's turn to act (I've not been tracking your health, by the way. How much do you have left?)

I'm very dead after that. I had 7 health left so they did 15 damage plus another 9 for me stopping the rage from being unconscious putting me at negative 17. So is there anyway I can help now that I'm dead? You seem very busy lately and I have a fair bit of time on my hands.
