As you awake to the dawn of a new day, realisation hits you. This is it, the time has come for the Reaping of the 73rd Hunger Games. This has always been an unforgettable day throughout your life. For some reason, today has you feeling particularly nervous, dread filling your stomach.

You rise and dress smartly, wearing the best clothes you have. As you leave your house, you join the growing throng of people filing towards the reaping itself. Peacekeepers line the way, their immaculate white uniforms and faceless helmets keeping you from recognising any of them. Their presence presses in on you, reminding you of the harsh reality. Two children are going to their deaths. Not today, but because of the events set in motion on this day. The thought hangs over everyone like a smothering fog.

Just like all the other children in the district, you line up with those of the same age as you. Girls on one side, boys on the other. Your blood is taken by a peacekeeper at a desk, checking you in. The older children put on a brave face for the benefit of those that are younger, but everyone is afraid.

Standing on the stage, stationed between two bowls filled with names, is the familiar sight of Effie Trinket, her brightly coloured hair and outfit standing out in the otherwise drab setting...

Please post your character's general appearance and his/her mannerisms as the reaping takes place. How it goes down is completely up to you.

Lox glared his way through the crowd, scarred arms crossed defiantly across his chest as he stalked through the parting citizens of the District. As always, they pointed and whispered, but none dared look the young "witchboy" in the eye, for fear he would strike them with a curse of hunger and thirst they couldn't quench. He smirked inwardly, malice gleaming in his eyes. That was the best way for these plebs to think. Fear gives control. Control gives power. Lox liked power.

He took his place amongst the children, easily discerned by both his ragged grey-burlap tunic and breechs haphazardly hacked from various bits of tarp short enough to show off his soot-stained scarring and by the fact that no child would get within six feet of him for the same reason noone else did.

But sometimes, the best way to strike fear is to let them think it was over...

And so Lox Nyctores, sorcerous child of a Daemon of Abbadon, waited for the moment to inflict the greatest of pains....Hope.

Waiting in line, Lox watched the female tribute be chosen first. Effie trinket, district 12's ebullient escort reached into the jar, and with a small theatrical flourish, drew out the first piece of paper.

"Sel Ellene." There was a pause as no one came forwards, and the courtyard was filled with quiet sighs of relief mixed with new curiosity.
The peacekeepers descended on the ranks of the 14 year olds, and soon came out with a stunned looking girl, wide eyed with some elvish features.
She is brought on stage and stares at the assembled audience with a look of panic.

Then Effie reaches into the bowl for the male tributes...

Greetings! I will be district 12's DM, so I'll be running your personal thread

Feel free to descirbe how your reaping occurs: is Lox's name drawn out? Or does he volunteer?

A cry went up form the front row, "FEH!" And the bowl full of names was struck with a blast of cold, sending it clatering to the ground, the pieces of paper flying everywhere like confetti to herald the approaching figure.

Lox walked through the gap with disdain and victory in his glare, slamming one foot onto the bottom step to the stage, "Don't bother! I'm already here..." He snarled, taking the stage as though he were some kind of caged predator waiting to strike. He leered out at the crowd, waiting for the predictable response of this cow-like mass.

There is a communal intake of breath as one of the children dares to use magic near a Capitol official, and in the stunned silence Lox makes his way on stage, those nearby recoiling from him.

But even as he starts to ascend the steps, the peacekeepers lunge at him and he is restrained physically me four powerful men in suits that resist his magic.

Effie stands up, shaking now and unable to hide her shock and fear. One piece of paper landed near her and trying to save face she picks it up and reads the name: "Lox Nyctores."

The silence is palpable. Everyone knew the witch-child, everyone knew his cursed name. How had he done it? Had he fixed the very Reapings themselves?

"Lox? Lox Nyctores?" Effie called out in a very high pitched voice, looking around and determinedly ignoring the peacekeepers who were busy carrying the witch-child away.

Even restrained as he was, Lox managed to look as though he could strike out at any moment. As he was bodily lifted from the stage, he locked gazes with the girl Tribute,

"How far will you go, girl? Can you be like me?"

A slow, predatory grin splitting his face before he threw his head back in a cackling laugh.

"huh..huhuhu...AHAHA AHAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!! THE GAME OF HUNGER BEGINS!!!"

People begin to point and Effie turns to see the struggling, crazed boy and her face droops beneath her mounting horror.

"Are you Lox?" she sounds as though she is hoping he will deny it, but the peacekeepers have already identified him and are now carrying the boy on stage.

Despite her fear, Sel shrugs off the rabid boy's words, though she is now staring away from him intently: like many of those assembled, trying to ignore him.

My view of it was that he had begun to climb the stage when he was grabbed, then he was carried on stage finally in the last post. Either way, he is now on stage, still being forcibly restrained my the peacekeepers. Effie is still hoping that the crazy boy is not the one whose name she read out.

Understood. Lemme know if I get a bit overboard.

Lox sneered at the pompously colourful woman, giving her a few choice words in Infernal before switching back to Common, "Of course I'm me. I have to be! If I weren't me..." He glared into the woman's eyes, "Could YOU be me?" He chuckled darkly from his place on stage, glaring towards the crowd contemptuously.

This time Lox's intimidation works, and Effie shrieks and stumbles back. The peacekeepers immediately take this opportunity to close down the proceedings, one bashing him over the head whilst another is busy cuffing him and then they carry him into the town hall. He is left in a room for what feels like ten minutes, and then the peacekeepers enter again grab him and haul him out of the town hall. He sees through the open door of the room next to his, the girl, Sel, hugging an elven man and human woman before she too is escorted out behind him, though she is not shackled, and is allowed to walk of her own accord. It seemed that Lox had been forbidden the opportunity to say goodbye to anyone he held dear.

The pair are escorted onto a waiting train, a sleek metallic shape that holds all the luxuries of the Capitol, which are so alien to the district 12 tributes. They are left in a comfortable sitting room, and Lox is unceremoniously dumped into a chair at one end, and Sel moves towards the other end of the room to be as far away from him as possible. Effie enters, sees Lox and immediately leaves again. However two peacekeepers remain on the train, watching Lox carefully for further signs of trouble.

Make a perception check!

Lox takes in his comfortable surroundings in a relaxed way, as though he hadn't angered the all-powerful ruling class and wasn't under arrest. The carriage is luxuriously appointed, with dark wood panels and gold trim, and bizarre looking pieces of art. The two long walls were taken up with large windows which let Lox look out onto the district on one side, and the monolithic town hall on the other; an imposing block of grey stone. He noticed that Sel was fiddling with a ring on her hand and muttering some sort of prayer or littany, but he couldn't quite make out the words.

There was a slight stirring in the carriage, barely perceptible, and then the train came to life, and begun to move along the tracks away from the district and out towards the Capitol. It began slowly of course, but soon had reached dizzying speeds.

The sliding doors at the end of the cabin opened and Haymitch, the only survivin district 12 victor stumbled into the room, followed by a very nervous looking Effie.

He collapsed in a chair near the middle of the room, bridging the gap between the two groups: Sel and Effie on one side, Lox and the peacekeepers on the other.
"Wha' are they doin' here?" Haymitch slurred, pointing at the peacekeepers.

"Wha-what about me?"
"Are you here to win, or to die? 'Cause, I have better things to do than help a bunch of goners." Their brief conversation ends with Sel curling into a ball, shaking her head, and Haymitch turns back to the table and grabs a bottle, clearly intent on getting even more drunk.

"Huh." Haymitch's reply is utterly non-committal and he continues to drink. Effie tries to strike up a conversation with Sel, but she scowls and brushes off the Capitol woman, who instead calls for food to be brought in.

Large trays are placed on the wooden tables, filled with all sorts of food that Lox has never seen before. Sel immediately heads over, but she is cautious, watching what Effie and Haymitch eat and following their lead.

Effie steps up next to Haymitch and whispers something in his ear. The mentor glances at Lox, a frown on his face.

Lox's sneer becomes a snarl as he is brushed off for a beverage, glaring daggers at the man and peacock-woman as they chat before simmering down to hsis normal disdain level just in time to flash the woman a knowing look in return for her glance.

Sel glances up as Lox moves, and drops the food she had been about to eat, retreating hastily from the table with a look of panic in her eyes. Effie shrieks once more, but Lox's game is short lived as he is knocked heavily to the floor. The two peacekeepers clearly are not amused by Lox's antics, and the hold him there for a time.

"No more of that, punk, got that? If I see even a gesture I'll break those hands of yours."

Haymitch tuts, and opens his mouth to mock the peacekepper's foolish threat (the tirbutes needed to be kept healthy), but then, seeing Lox on the floor he sneers and keeps his mouth shut.

"Perhaps a s-s-suppressant c-could be acquired?" Effie stammered.

A suppressant is a device which creates an anti-magic field. Can be personal, localized or have a wide area of effect.

Lox laughs as he's tackled to the floor, giving Haymich a pleased smile at the man's sneer. The dirty little Elf knew what the human was feeling. It was the same he felt when the woman stuttered and the small girl refused her food. They were of a like mind. Perhaps there was time to begin a small game between them.

Blinking himself from his reverie, he swore in Infernal, straining a moment before relaxing, I...hunger... He stated simply, Those who fight eat. No fight, no eat. He explained in simplified Common.

Haymitch shakes his head in disbelief at Lox's statement, "Y'know what? I think I'm gonna finish this," he waves his glass in the air to nobody in particular, "In my room, away from all this crazy..."

As he leaves, Effie gives him a worried look, apparently not wanting the mentor to leave her with the tributes. She gives a fragile grin to Lox, "Th-there's plenty of food," her attention flickers to the Peacekeeper's, "you can help yourself."

The Peacekeeper's ease off Lox, allowing him to stand. They still seem ready to react, however. Keeping a close eye on his every move.

The peacekeeper's seem to be unsure whether or not to allow Lox his display of magic. Their decision making is cut short when the screen on the wall springs to life. The Panem anthem blares out and the screen is quickly replaced with the familiar faces of Caesar and Claudius. As the recap begins, Effie and Sel stop what they're doing to watch it. Effie in particular frowns at the way the District 12 viewing has been edited. Once it's over she mutters something under her breath. Sel has, by this point, turned pale again. The reality of who she'd end up against in the arena hitting home now.

Anxious to break the uncomfortable silence, Effie perches herself on the couch next to Sel, sitting so that the young girl is positioned between herself and Lox. The speeding train catches your attention as it suddenly begins to slow. For the last hour the train has been speeding along mountains and shooting through tunnels. Finally it comes out of a final tunnel and the sun shines down upon it. With it now slowing, the train track curves to the side and allows you to see in the distance the capital.

A gigantic metropolis, it is comprised of countless metal buildings that stretch into the sky towards the clouds. Never in your life have you seen such tall buildings. Scattered along the skyline are floating ships that hang in the sky.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Na6ePbPVYVc/UWH_BAxX2YI/AAAAAAAALgU/WvLuZokDrgk/s1600/The+capitol+Panem.jpg

The train continues to slow, and eventually closes into the city. People line the track, waving to you as the train enters the capital. The capital citizens are an odd bunch, all dressed in bright colors with bizarre hairstyles and some even have odd grafts on their bodies. The sheer number of them decorating the pristine streets is mind boggling to you.

_______________________

Once the train stops, your chaperone takes you to a nearby building. There a team of highly trained capital employees take over cleaning you. They scrub you clean on a level you've never felt before, removing a layer of skin from your body, thoroughly washing your hair, waxing body hair, and picking any specks of dirt that may be under your nails.

With the parade over, District 12's chariot is lead away from the central path, taking a route that brings it to an imposing skyscraper. The chariot stops outside the building where the tributes are met by Haymitch, Effie and a squad of peacekeepers. The mentor from 12 is looking stern, but not angry, whilst Effie looks terrified. The question is on everyone's mind: how did Lox convince his stylists that that costume would be appropriate? The peacekeepers lead Lox from the chariot, the manacles proving to be all too real and successfully restraining Lox. The head peacekeeper steps forwards and attaches a blue clasp to each of the elf's arms and then steps back.

The skyscraper is an impossible building that seems to reach up infinitely above them, the central section being made up of completely transparent glass. Effie ushers them to a clear glass tube and stepping inside, presses a panel and a golden 12 appears before the capsule suddenly hurtles upwards. When it stops, the group steps into a fantastic apartment, the likes of which they have only ever seen on the Capitol broadcasts. There are sofas in the centre of the room, pointing to a wall that they guess will turn into a screen at some point, and further along is a large dining table. On the far side, there are huge windows that look out onto the evening sky.

Seeder gestures to the rows of doors down each side which have the titles of their occupants embossed in gilded lettering: Male Tribute, Female Tribute, Mentor, Escort.

The peacekeepers disperse, some leaving the room whilst two take up positions flanking Lox and the head peacekeeper steps in front of the male tribute. "Those clasps are known as suppressors. The device that they constitute is a suppressant. It will prevent you from using your magic. They will be deactivated during training so long as you abide by the rules set out: not to harm another tribute or Capitol official. If you prove you cannot be trusted, they will remain active during the entire training period, even during the testing."

"And if you put even a toe out of line whilst you're under my watch, I'll make sure they stay active during the Games." The head peacekeeper gives Lox a piercing look, and then turns on his heel.

"I've got it from here," Haymitch says to the remaining two peacekeepers and they reluctantly take up positions at the entrance, whilst the mentor leads the two tributes to the sofas.

"So: you are bloomin' crazy aren't you? Well you can thank me for giving Cinna a nudge about your costume. This could definitely be a strategy: I don't think anyone has tried to actively look insane before..."

Haymitch appears to be ignoring Sel: it seems that Lox has captured his attention.

Lox kept his eyes locked on Effie every time she looked towards him, rolling his eyes at the guards as they slapped him in MORE shackles but otherwise obeying.

He stayed pretty much on autopilot until they reached the room, sneering at the guard captain and mentally marking his appearance. His eyes change to a look of accepting a challenge as Haymich begins speaking, grin going crooked, Uncertainty makes Fear. He replied matter-of-factually.

"Well that's certain. You know, it might not be a bad idea to get caught by that peacekeeper again. I think those cuffs will make the others question what exactly is so dangerous about you that you need to be restrained. But, obviously you didn't get that idea from me. But you'll probably pay for that with a lower score in training. So it's your choice."

"What should I do?" Sel asks, clearly annoyed at being ignored. "Are you going to help me?"

"Sure, just as long as I don't have to get up," Haymitch replies with a grin. "Unless you learned to fight some place, and are secretly the most dangerous tribute who the others will go out of their way to help for no obvious reason, then sorry kid, but I got nothing. You look sweet: maybe you should try and keep out of the way of the big kids, and hope everyone else dies first. Use this week to learn survival techniques, what food is good to eat, how to find water and make shelter. And watch some old Games- the Games Makers aren't always that creative."

Since it is a spell like ability, it is also suppressed.

Haymich's suggestion causes Lox's grin to literally touch his oversized ears, the malicious intent seething in his eyes as he immediately looks to the door labelled "Escort". As he strides away towards his room he hears the peacekeepers hurrying towards him and soon they have wrestled him to the ground once again. But from there they have nothing more to do, and cart him off towards his room. They both remain inside as they place him on the luxurious bed, and then one proceeds to wave a wand over the door, sealing it shut. The lights in the room dim, and only a faint glow around the peacekeepers' suits, and a bluish glow emanating from the Suppressant illuminate it.

* * * * *

In the morning, Lox is finally released from his room, and escorted into the main area where the evidence of his desecration has been cleared away. The moment the training session ends, Lox is dragged off by a Peacekeeper towards the elevator. The helmet prevents him from being able to tell if it's the same one who he spat at earlier, but the rough treatment suggests that he's well aware of his reputation either way.

The lift ride up is tense, the Peacekeeper remaining stiff and to attention the whole way up. Not a word is spoken by the man. Lox crouched behind the rock a moment, rethinking his original strategy. Obviosuly, someone was attemping to get him killed. He respected that. But he couldn't let it happen either. He looked at the jumble of rock he was behind, wondering if he could wriggle his emaciated frame under the pile.

((Could I dig myself into an unreachable position under the rocks? Also, how cold is it? Also also, are Cantrips immediate actions?))

Comissar

In order;

You can attempt to, but the ground is hard due to frost. You're unlikely to make any significant progress in the time frame you're considering. If you want to try and squeeze under, you can attempt an escape artist check.

The temperature currently is about -10 Celsius. It's cold enough that you will be taking fortitude saves due to exposure, though you have not yet been within the environment long enough for that to be an issue.

Cantrips, like other spells, take the amount of time that is listed to cast. Acid Splash, for example, is a standard action.

-10? So it would take what, like a round for water to freeze? Anyway I tihnk I have my action.

Lox nodded to himself and quickly flicked through the motions of a spell, bringing a red-maned miniature horse forth from the tainted regions of Abaddon (feindish pony, can still hold my weight)

Comissar

-10 Celsius is 14 Farenheit, cold enough for water to freeze but not so cold that it freezes near instantly.

As to summoning. The spell is a standard action, so you can use a move to mount. Do you need handle animal for a summon?

Well, summons are controlled completely during their summons, so the rolls would not be needed.

If I can hop onto the thing and ride off this turn, that's what i'll do. horse's move is 40, he next turns will most liekly be alot of sprinting away and shooting Wasting Ray behind me XD

If anyone is within my range for Wasting Ray, give 'em a "Lox turns back to give XXXX a wicked glare, the crazed look replaced with a hungry fire, before kicking his fiendish steed in the flanks and hurtling northwards"

true statement. if anyone's within range to catch me next turn before my intiative, Summon, if not, Wasting Ray.

Also, with the -10 C weather, would water freeze if aided by Ray of Frost? I'm thinking about using it and Drench to make sheets of ice as a hazard :D Oh, and the grey spot to the north = mountain?

Comissar
2014-11-24, 02:53 AM
Interesting idea. I'm going to say no, however, on the basis that to get water to freeze you typically need to expose it to ongoing cold. Ray of Frost only delivers a short, sharp burst of it. It'd be the equivalent of trying to get a puddle to freeze immediately by dropping ice in it. It'll help in the long run, but it won't make it freeze immediately.

Entaris
2014-11-24, 10:05 AM
See, I thought taht as well, however ice is also not cold enough to deal damage.

So, my thought was that, at -10 C, water is at a potential temperature to freeze, so a shock of even colder temperature inone spot could facilitate ice, just like the beer in the freezer trick, where it's liquid until you klink the beer bottles together, forming a spot of colder beer and starting the intitial ice crystals which catalyze the rest of the freezing reaction. :)

At the very least, I can douse people with water and give them hypothermia :P

Next action will be probably Summon, since there are multiple people within a move action from me. What's the gray area to the north? Mountains?

Also, how are you dealing with Hypothermia in this weather? Because I plan to douse at least one person with water and watch them slip off quietly into that good night :P

The grey is indeed mountainous. Hypothermia will be dealt with via. the cold weather rules (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/environment/environmental-rules#TOC-Cold-Dangers). As such, while drenching a target will not trigger a check, it will make it significantly harder to avoid taking future checks as they will be required to dry off before being able to warm up.

Each square is 5ft still yes? I'm trying to plan out how I'm going to get into those mountains. Anyogg is at -10, so I could Ray of Frost him into Death, taking my Bloodline bonus, hit Sel or one of the other spellies with Enfeeblement, hopefully taking them to 0 STR and killing/paralyzing them, leaving them open for others to finish it.

Lox works at trying to split a rock down into a useable knife. His initial attempts prove to be largely unsuccessful, though he does manage to create a basic cutting edge on a stone.

You can have a stone that deals either Slashing or Bludgeoning for your efforts there, but it's an improvised weapon. You'll need a better craft check to create a proper knife.

Lox hefts his sharpened rock in his hand, grinning mischeviously as he looks from the weapon in his grip to the forest only a few hundred feet from his location.

"Getting dark out...time to start a fire..." He thinks, chuckling inwardly as he sets out towards the trees.

Lox wants to head to the edge of the forest, use the sharpened rock to basically carve out a divot in a tree or two, then set them on fire using Spark. If the trees are too alive and wet, use Wasting Ray to dry them out ^_^ Unless anyone else crosses his path, that's his plan currently for the future. How're the two I hit with the Ray doin?

Concern written on her face, Liss rushes back to try and help Tempra. Both Tempra and her district partner look very unhealthy at this point, as though they'd not eaten for weeks rather than hours. As Lox sneaks closer to close the gap, however, Liss abruptly looks straight up at him. Her demeanour carries none of the concern it had mere moments before, and instead Lox is the sole subject of her attention. A heaviness begins to settle over his limbs, the results of a spell! It's looking more and more like Liss used the stricken tributes from District 3 as bait!

Going to need an Initiative check and a Will Save. Initiative is self explanatory, Will Save is against Hold Person (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/h/hold-person), the DC of which is 16.

Liss used a stealth check to disguise the fact that she was readying the spell. In addition, Hold Person is cast as a standard action, not a full round, and therefore can be done alongside a move action. On the plus side, you have initiative! So you have a chance to throw off the effects now anyway. Once again, DC is 16.

You do indeed roll for it. It's typically twice what your normal damage is. i.e. with a dagger, you'd roll 2D4+(2x strength modifier) on a crit.

So what would you say is the damage and multiplier f my large sharp rock?

It will be an improvised weapon, specifically one that deals 1D4 damage naturally. Improvised weapons give you an extra -4 penalty on the attack roll and score a x2 crit. on a natural 20. It also has a thrown increment of 10ft.

You're going to need to do that roll again. I'd recommend doing 2D4+4.

Coup de Graceing triggers a fortitude check for the target if they're not straight up killed, DC is 10+ damage dealt. Failing means death.

Was gonna wing it using basically a prayer roll sacrifices that appease the daemons I want to summon and my own blood as an arcane link

It says I can use Summon Monster in the Bidning Outsiders section, so I'm guessing I can still augment that with sacrifices and promises, etc. Right now I'm looking at like calling like, bloodied, tortured, starving people wishing for death, one male one female, in a circle made of blood and ice, and gettingcalled by someone who's done the work himself, if these bonuses work anything like the BoVD in 3.5

As Lox stands contemplating the fallen tribute at his feet, he hears his summoned hound continuing around the pool though, with the conjured smoke, he can't tell which direction it's moving. He feels the spell dissipate from his control, the beast being banished back to where it came from.

No movement, no map. It's the same as last time.

So I've just taken a look at Binding Outsiders on the PFSRD. It's a variant magic rule, and not one that we're using. In addition, you're after using a 3.5 class in PF. While I may have allowed it had you requested it during character creation, it's way way way too late to be bringing it up now. Generally speaking, it's best to run these ideas by the GM before trying to use them :smalltongue:

Incidentally, Summon Monster very specifically doesn't require binding in order to work.

Also, the pair are already unconscious and in the process of dying. Torture on someone who is already unconscious tends not to get results. I'm going to post the dog's action, even though you've not posted one of your own yet. Once you have, I'll edit it in.

Chanting over the pool near him, Lox feels his arcane power flowing into the springs. Though there's no obvious change in the water, he knows that his spell has ensured that any who drink from this spring will get more than they bargained for.

Sorry, thought I'd responded here sooner for some reason. First off, no movement, no new map. It's the same as before.

Second, I remember you drawing the circle, I don't remember you trying to boost it via. ritual. I have cleared my inbox several times recently, so any discussion about that may have gone from my records. Do forward it to me if you have a record of me giving you the go ahead on it.

The heat of the pools means that Lox is exempt from the saves against Cold. Not to say that it isn't on the cold side where he's sleeping, but the warmth of the pools are enough to take away the worst of the chill.

Lox's progress is lonely, no other tributes save the dead he left behind visible to him. He edges closer to the forest, though there is still some distance to go. As the sun slowly sinks toward the horizon, the silence is broken by Canon fire. One, two, three... The fire almost seems to mark the passing seconds. A total of ten shots are fired. An echoing silence follows. It is then that the Panem anthem blares across the clearing.

Lox grinned all the wider as the snow began to fall. Good, cold will react well with the wildfire he intended to start. Maybe this storm will have a nice wind, as well. Upon reaching the treeline, he set about finding a couple of standing dead trees near the edge of the wood about a row in to avoid some of the snow or, barring that, a couple jsut close together at the same distance. Casting Alarm around his workarea, the Filthy Elf got to work with his sharpened rock, carving out small hollows in several trees at chin-level by grinding the stone against the wood, leaving the sawdust inside.

Lox enters the treeline without incident. To his right, he can see the cornucopia clearing. As he casts his ward, he notices that three bodies still lie around the podiums. The two tributes from District 8 and the boy from District 10. He finds the trees to be easy enough to drill holes in. As he does so, a thick resin oozes slowly out of the wounds in the bark.

Stealth and Perception please.

Your Knowledge (Nature) check is enough to let you know that the sap will not hinder the wood's flamability and, in fact, can help it burn. In addition to this, the smoke it gives off has a soporific effect on those who inhale it.

Lox's work is not quiet, the grinding of stone against wood making a persistent rasping noise that carries through the clearing. Finally, he's cleared a fist-sized hollow in the tree's trunk for his purposes.

Deciding it might be better to do this while moving, Lox began to circle the forest, moving away from the Cornucopia. As he did, he slashed the trees as he passed, letting the flammable sap ooze out as an accelerant for his plan. Lox watches as the two girl's advance on him. Sheila presses forward more readily, her grip tight on her longsword and her face locked into a mask of anger. Sel, in contrast, walks forward more warily. She appears to be struggling to maintain a neutral expression. Her posture looks to be far more defensive than Sheila's. They take up positions either side of the dead tribute in the snow as Lox backs away a step and casts his spell.

Initiative order is Sel (on 12), Lox (on 5) then Sheila (on 3). Sheila's surprise action is her step forward to the northwest square of Trefoil's corpse, and so she still has an action to take. Sel's action this round is to move up near to Sheila. I've provided a close up of the map as well to help with grid visibility. If it's not useful, let me know and I'll try and make it more defined.

The Alarm spell won't be triggered yet simply because there's not been a chance for either Sheila or Sel to move through it as yet.

In answer to your questions;

I intend to handle level up's at the end of each of the days, so everyone is currently still the same level as at the start of the bloodbath.

The sun is currently in the process of setting. There is plenty of light right now, but it will gradually move to become dimmer and dimmer. Right now, light conditions are lessened to a degree, but not enough to severely hinder vision.

With little hesitation, Sheila surges forward. She triggers Lox's alarm spell, but seems entirely unfazed. With alarming force her sword bites into Lox's side. Pain explodes through the boy, such that he's never known in his life. The last things he's aware of before darkness claims him are the ringing of his spell and a girls voice.

"Well... This one ought to be fun..."

So... Sheila's attack dealt 22 damage to Lox. Having reviewed your sheet, I can't see anything there that would mitigate that in any way. Lox is on -7 hp. He's not dead, so you can still try to stabilise and recover naturally, and the arrival of the career pack will certainly make Coup de Gracing Lox less of a priority in that respect.

Athena has an initiative roll of 15, and so is acting ahead of Sel, Lox and Sheila. Sheila's attack has knocked Lox into negative health but has not killed him, hence his continued inclusion in the turn order. I'm awaiting initiative rolls from James/Jibril. You can still make your stabilisation rolls now, though.

Current Order;

Athena (15)
Sel (12)
Lox (5)
Sheila (3)
