Change Shape confusion.

Efreeti have the ability to turn into any small to large humanoids or giants, but I am not sure whether they can turn into creatures with more HD then themselves. I also don't think they get the stat boost from turning into a giant, but they do get abilities like pounce?

The Change Shape ability of an Efreeti (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/genie.htm#efreeti) is not limited by HD. Per the rules for Change Shape (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#changeShape), the Efreet would retain its own ability scores, and would gain the natural weapons, movement modes, and extraordinary special attacks of the new form (and would correspondingly lose its natural weapons, movement modes, and extraordinary special attacks not derived from class levels).
