Hello! Was curious if there is any feats that improves the level of your cohort? And also if when it says in leadership description that cohort is 2 levels lower then your character, does it mean effective level or just straight out level? As in would a +1 lvl adjustment race be 3 levels lower or two levels lower then you are?

There's a feat floating around somewhere that lets a cohort be one level closer to its player character.

I believe it is called Improved Cohort in 3.5 & is found in Heroes of Battle. Can't remember the name but there's an equivalent in Pathfinder as well, I'm sure.

An Effective Character Level 10 PC can have a Cohort with an ECL of up to 8.

ECL is equal to racial hit dice + levels + level adjustment. In other words, however many hit dice the character has plus their level adjustment.

So a Cohort with a +1 level adjustment and 7 HD would be ECL 8 the same way a Cohort with a +0 level adjustment and 8 HD would be ECL 8. So, yes, the cohort would have 3 less hit dice, assuming that the PC did not have any level adjustment.
