Been muddling about researching The Endless Wastes (http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110506013826/forgottenrealms/images/e/eb/The_Hordelands.jpg) and the Hordelands and their surroundings for a while and had some questions I am hoping the Playground can help me answer.

I've guessed that the “ice demons” that helped destroy Winterkeep (UE188) were probably just the ancient ice giants mentioned in this web enhancement (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/pg20020626x). Does anyone have info supporting or refuting this idea?

In this Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abeir-Toril) it mentions "Far in the north of the sea is a small island dominated by a cathedral-like spire, inhabited by gnomes of Gond." This is VERY relevant to my interests but I can't find any more info on the subject.

Is there a module or description in any detail of what lies in the ruins of Winterkeep? Even a mention of how extensive it really is would be helpful.

And last, what sort of encounters would one have in the Great Ice Sea or its southern the Bay of Raum?

Ice Demons is vague in this context, as the Relams fluff counts ''any evil thing from another plane'' a demon. So you could say the ''Ice Demons'' were anything. Plenty of evil ice creatures fit, like fenidish ice elemental. But feindish frost giants work just fine.

I think that is the only gnome spire refrence.

I don't think Winterkeep has ever been detailed.

Cold and ice creatures...just open Frostburn to the monsters...

would suggest looking in The Great Glacier (2nd edition book) ... Hordelands Garzetter in Dragon Magazine 349 wouldn't be half-bad either

As for winterkeep, i'd hunt Raumathari lore ... Lost Empires of Faerun have a (small) splash, Unapproachible East might have some as well

Thanks for the tip about The Great Glacier. I'm came in at 3.x so finding all this old Realms lore trips me up.

And I've read both the first Hoardlands Dragon writeup and the second 3.x one. Additionally I'm currently reading the Hoardlands box set right now too. I've read the snippets from both FRCS and UE but I hadn't thought to go find LEoF yet. Thanks again.

If you're looking for Winterkeep fluff, it's featured pretty prominently in the Realms novel Frostfell (part of The Wizards mini-series).

yeah, Candlekeep really is the go-to place for question involving Forgotten Realms, theres a lot of very knowledgable Lore Hoarders there, including a fair few of the authors, which run a somewhat contineous (depending on the exact author) Q&A

Wonder if any Realms emthusiasts can answer these questions...

According to this map (http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110506013826/forgottenrealms/images/e/eb/The_Hordelands.jpg) there's a place called Murmaan right there beside Kholaa on the shores of the Bay of Raum.

All three are locations I can find exactly no information on. I've searched the Great Glacier, the Hordelands, and The Endless Wastes info and come up with nuthin'.

Anybody else know what these places are or what's supposed to lurk there?

some things are just dots on the map, never detailed and are meant to be filled in by the DM, that may be one of those places

I had a quick dig through the FR materials I have readily available to me.

I got nothing. Sorry. Candlekeep might have some people who can point you in the right direction, however.
