Singing to the world
Its time we let the spirit come in
Let it come on in
I'm singing to the world
Everybody's caught in the spin
Look at where we've been
We've been running around
Year after year
Blinded it with pride
Blinded it with fear

But its daybreak
If you wanna' to beleave
It can be daybreak
Ain't no time to grieve
Say its daybreak
If you 'll only believe
And let it shine, shine, shine all around the world

"Now those guards are on my tail,
I can hear those sirens wail,
But I know that I'll get away

Cause I'd rather Live on the run,
Stand free in the morning sun,
Than to spend another
Lonely prison night. "

Runnin', runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Ain't runnin' from myself no more
Together we'll win it all
I ain't runnin', runnin', runnin', runnin'

If I lose myself, I lose it all

Whoa thought it was a nightmare
Lord it was so true

They told me don't go walking slow
The devil's on the loose

Better run through the jungle
Better run through the jungle
Better run through the jungle
Whoa don't look back to see

Thought I heard a rumblin'
Calling to my name

Two hundred million guns are loaded
Satan cries "take aim"

Better run through the jungle
Better run through the jungle
Better run through the jungle
Whoa don't look back to see

Over on the mountain, thunder magic spoke
Let the people know my wisdom
Fill the land with smoke

Better run through the jungle
Better run through the jungle
Better run through the jungle
Whoa don't look back to see

Can't seem to get my mind off of you
Back here at home there's nothin' to do
Now that I'm away
I wish I'd stayed
Tomorrow's a day of mine that you won't be in

When you looked at me I should've run
But I thought it was just for fun
I see I was wrong
And I'm not so strong
I should've known all along that time would tell

A week without you
Thought I'd forget
Two weeks without you and I
Still haven't gotten over you yet

Vacation
All I ever wanted
Vacation
Had to get away
Vacation
Meant to be spent alone

A week without you
Thought I'd forget
Two weeks without you and I
Still haven't gotten over you yet

Vacation
All I ever wanted

Had to get away

Street's like a jungle
So call the police
Following the herd
Down to Greece
On holiday
Love in the nineties
Is paranoid
On sunny beaches
Take your chances
Looking for
Girls who are boys
Who like boys to be girls
Who do boys like they're girls
Who do girls like they're boys
Always should be someone you really love

Are you ready for the sunshine?
Are you ready for the birds and bees,
the apple trees,
and a whole lot of fooling around

Are you ready for the summer?
Are you ready for the hot nights?
Are you ready for the fireflies,
the moonlit skies,
and a whole lot of fooling around

No more teachers dirty looks
No more math and history,
Summer time has set us free

It's a mighty hard row that my poor hands have hoed
My poor feet have traveled a hot dusty road
Out of your Dust Bowl and westward we rolled
And your deserts were hot and your mountain was cold

I worked in your orchards of peaches and prunes
Slept on the ground in the light of your moon
On the edge of the city you'll see us and then
We come with the dust and we go with the wind

California and Arizona, I make all your crops
And its North up to Oregon to gather your hops
Dig the beets from your ground, cut the grapes from your vine
To set on your table your light sparkling wine

Green pastures of plenty from dry desert ground
From the Grand Coulee Dam where the waters run down
Every state in this Union us migrants have been
We'll work in this fight and we'll fight till we win

Well, it's always we rambled, that river and I
All along your green valley, I will work till I die
My land I'll defend with my life if it be
'Cause my pastures of plenty must always be free

-Pastures of Plenty by Woody Guthrie

EDIT:
Yes my grandfather came to California "through the desert, riding the fender of a Model A Ford", but just to be clear he was not an "Okie", he was from Kansas (seriously, even though it's a "novel" Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath", is a must read to understand American or at least Californian history).

Which Side Are You On?

A Song by Florence Patton Reece

Come all of you good workers
Good news to you I'll tell
Of how that good old union
Has come in here to dwell

Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?

My daddy was a miner
And I'm a miner's son
And I'll stick with the union
Till every battle's won

They say in Harlan County
There are no neutrals there
You'll either be a union man
Or a thug for J.H. Blair

Oh, workers can you stand it?
Oh, tell me how you can
Will you be a lousy scab
Or will you be a man?

Don't scab for the bosses
Don't listen to their lies
Us poor folks haven't got a chance
Unless we organize

Tumble out of bed
And stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
And yawn and stretch and try to come to life

Jump in the shower
And the blood starts pumping
Out on the streets, the traffic starts jumping
For folks like me on the job from 9 to 5

Working 9 to 5
What a way to make a living
Barely getting by
It's all taking and no giving

They just use your mind
And they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you
Crazy if you let it

Doin' 90 days for non-support
Tryin' to find me an executive position

Now I got them steadily depressin'
Low down mind messin'

Institutionalized:
a mid 1980's song by the band
Suicidal Tendencies

Sometimes I try to do things and it just doesn't work out the way I wanted too
And I get real frustrated, and its like
And I try hard to do it and take my time
And it just doesn't work out the way I want it too
It's like I concentrate on it real hard but it just doesn't work out
And everything I do and everything I try, it never turns out
It's like I need time to figure these things out
But there's always someone there going

Hey Mike: You know we've been noticing you've been having a lot of problems lately
You know, maybe you get away, and like maybe you should talk about it,
You'll feel a lot better

And I go: No it's okay, you know I'll figure it out
Just leave me alone I'll figure it out
You know I'll just work it on myself,

And they go: Well you know if you want to talk about it I'll be here, you know
And you'll probably feel a lot better if you talk about it, so want don't you talk about it

And I go: No I don't want to, I'm okay, I'll figure it out myself
And they just keep bugging me and they just keep bugging me
And it builds up inside

So you're gonna be institutionalized
You'll come out brainwashed with bloodshot eyes
You won't have any say
They'll brainwash you until you see their way

I'm not crazy - institution
You're the one who's crazy - institution
You're driving me crazy - institution
They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy - myself

I was in my room and I was just like staring at the wall thinking about everything
But then again I was thinking about nothing
And then my mom came in and I didn't even know she was there she called my name
And I didn't even hear it, and then she started screaming: MIKE! MIKE!
And I go: What, what's the matter?
And she goes: What's the matter with you?
I go: There's nothing wrong mom
And she goes: Don't tell me that, you're on drugs!
And I go: No mom I'm not on drugs I'm okay, I was just thinking you know,
Why don't you get me a Pepsi
And she goes: No you're on drugs!
I go: Mom I'm okay, I'm just thinking
She goes: No you're not thinking, you're on drugs! Normal people don't act that way!
I go: Mom just give me a Pepsi, please
All I want is a Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me
Just a Pepsi

They give you a white shirt with long sleeves
Tied around you're back, you're treated like thieves
Drug you up because they're lazy
It's too much work to help a crazy

I'm not crazy - institution
You're the one who's crazy - institution
You're driving me crazy - institution
They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy - myself

I was sitting in my room and my mom and my dad came in
And they pulled up a chair and they sat down, they go:
Mike, we need to talk to you
And I go: Okay what's the matter
They go:
Me and your mom have been noticing lately that you've been having a lot of problems,
You've been going off for no reason and we're afraid you're gonna hurt somebody,
We're afraid you're gonna hurt yourself
So we decided that it would be in your interest if we put you somewhere
Where you could get the help that you need
And I go: Wait, what are you talking about, we decided!?
My best interest?! How do you know what's my best interest is?
How can you say what my best interest is? What are you trying to say, I'm crazy?
When I went to your schools, I went to your churches,
I went to your institutional learning facilities?! So how can you say I'm crazy?

They say they're gonna fix my brain
Alleviate my suffering and my pain
But by the time they fix my head
Mentally I'll be dead

I'm not crazy - institution
You're the one who's crazy - institution
You're driving me crazy - institution
They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy - myself

It doesn't matter, I'll probably get hit by a car anyway

Soul of a woman was created below, yeah.

Sweet little baby, I don't know where you've been.
Gonna love you baby, here I come again.

Ev'ry day I work so hard bringin' home my hard-earned pay.

All crew now set into motion
Another day like many before it
Hard life, no way to ignore it
Behold! A cry from the crow's nest
A ship appears from the south west
The years below deck that bored me
All lead to what lies before me

Too late to lay low or outrun
Up close we're outmanned and outgunned
Prepare to rush forth, unleash hel
Cross swords in one final farewell
Hulls crash, our vessel is boarded
No mercy or tact is afforded
But now the King's men draw closer
Seems like it may all be over"

The Mariner's Revenge Song

by The Decemberists

We are two mariners
Our ship's sole survivors
In this belly of a whale
It's ribs are ceiling beams
It's guts are carpeting
I guess we have some time to kill

You may not remember me
I was a child of three
And you, a lad of eighteen
But, I remember you
And I will relate to you
How our histories interweave
At the time you were
A rake and a roustabout
Spending all your money
On the whores and hounds
(Oh, oh)

You had a charming air
All cheap and debonair
My widowed mother found so sweet
And so she took you in
Her sheets still warm with him
Now filled with filth and foul disease
As time wore on you proved
A debt-ridden drunken mess
Leaving my mother
A poor consumptive wretch
(Oh, oh)

And then you disappeared
Your gambling arrears
The only thing you left behind
And then the magistrate
Reclaimed our small estate
And my poor mother lost her mind
Then, one day in spring
My dear sweet mother died
But, before she did
I took her hand as she, dying, cried:
(Oh, oh)

"Find him, find him
Tie him to a pole and break
His fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he
Wakes up naked
Clawing at the ceiling
Of his grave"

It took me fifteen years
To swallow all my tears
Among the urchins in the street
Until a priory
Took pity and hired me
To keep their vestry nice and neat
But, never once in the employ
Of these holy men
Did I ever, once turn my mind
From the thought of revenge
(Oh, oh)

One night I overheard
The prior exchanging words
With a penitent whaler from the sea
The captain of his ship
Who matched you toe to tip
Was known for wanton cruelty
The following day
I shipped to sea
With a privateer
And in the whistle
Of the wind
I could almost hear
(Oh, oh)

"Find him, find him
Tie him to a pole and break
His fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he
Wakes up naked
Clawing at the ceiling
Of his grave

There is one thing I must say to you
As you sail across the sea
Always, your mother will watch over you
As you avenge this wicked deed"

And then, that fateful night
We had you in our sight
After twenty months, it seemed
Your starboard flank abeam
I was getting my muskets clean
When came this rumbling from beneath
The ocean shook
The sky went black
And the captain quailed
And before us grew
The angry jaws
Of a giant whale

Don't know how I survived
The crew all was chewed alive
I must have slipped between his teeth
But, oh, what providence
What divine intelligence
That you should survive
As well as me
It gives my eye great joy
To see your eyes fill with fear
To lean in close
And I will whisper
The last words you'll hear
(Oh, oh)

"Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop

But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town."

"An old man by a sea shore at the end of day
Gazes the horizon with sea winds in his face.
Tempest-tossed island, seasons all the same.
Anchorage unpainted and a ship without a name.

Sea without a shore for the vanished one unheard
He lightens the beacon, light at the end of world.
Showing the way, lighting hope in their hearts,
The ones and their travels homeward from afar.

This is for long-forgotten light at the end of the world.
Horizon's crying the tears he left behind long ago."

"There, calls the mariner
there comes a ship over the line
But how can she sail with no wind
in her sails and no tide.

See... onward she comes
Onwards she nears, out of the sun
See... she has no crew
She has no life, wait but there's two

Death and she Life in Death,
they throw their dice for the crew
She wins the Mariner and he belongs to her now.
Then ... crew one by one
They drop down dead, two hundred men
She... She, Life in Death.
She lets him live, her chosen one."

"The legend lives on
From the Chippewa on down,
Of the big lake they call 'Gitchee Gumee'.

The lake, it is said,
Never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.

With a load of iron ore,
Twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty,

The big ship and crew
Was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early.

The ship was the pride
Of the American side,
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin.

As the big freighters go,
It was bigger than most,
With the crew and good captain well-seasoned.

Concluding some terms
With a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland.

And later that night,
When the ship's bell rang,
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?

The wind in the wires
Made a tattle-tale sound,
And a wave broke over the railing.

And every man knew,
As the captain did, too
T'was the witch of November
Come stealin'.

The dawn came late,
And the breakfast had to wait,
When the gales of November
Came slashin'.
When afternoon came,
It was freezin' rain,
In the face of a hurricane west-wind.

When suppertime came,
The old cook came on deck,
Sayin', 'Fellas, it's too rough t' feed ya.'

At seven p.m.,
A main hatchway caved in,
He said,
'Fellas, it's been good ta know ya!'
The captain wired in
He had water comin' in,
And the good ship and crew was in peril.
And later that night,
When his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does anyone know
Where the love of God goes
When the waves turn minutes to hours?
The searches all say
They'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles
Behind her.

They might have split up,
Or they might have capsized.
They may have broke deep,
And took water.
And all that remains
Is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls,
Superior sings,
In the rooms of her icewater mansion.
Ol' Michigan steams
Like a young man's dreams.
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.

And farther below,
Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her.
And the iron boats go
As the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall
In Detroit they prayed,
In the maritime sailors' cathedral.

The church bell chimed
'Til it rang twenty-nine times,
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The legend lives on
From the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call 'Gitchee Gumee'.
Superior, they say,
Never gives up her dead,
When the gales of November come early."

Let's go with another one from Canada:

"Well, you'd think the local farmers would know that I'm at large
But just the other day I found an unprotected barge
I snuck up right behind them and they were none the wiser
I rammed their ship and sank it, and I stole their fertilizer.

A bridge outside of Moose Jaw spans a mighty river
Farmers cross in so much fear their stomachs are a-quiver
'Cause they know that Tractor Jack is hidin' in the bay,
I'll jump the bridge and knock 'em cold and sail off with their hay.

'Cause it's a heave-ho, high-ho, coming down the Plains
Stealing wheat and barley and all the other grains
And it's a ho-hey, high-hey, farmers bar your doors
When you see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores!"

Arrogant Worms - The Last Saskatchewan Pirate

@v I think you wanted this verse:
"We're sailing away (set sail!),
Adventure awaits on every shore!
We set sail and explore (ya-har!)
And run and jump all day (Yay!)
We float on our boat (the boat!)
Until its time to drop the anchor,
Then hang up our coats (aye-aye!)
Until we sail again!"

"Every Picture Tells A Story"

Spent some time feelin' inferior
standing in front of my mirror
Combed my hair in a thousand ways
but I came out looking just the same

Daddy said, "Son, you better see the world
I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave
But remember one thing don't lose your head
to a woman that'll spend your bread"
So I got out

Paris was a place you could hide away
if you felt you didn't fit in
French police wouldn't give me no peace
They claimed I was a nasty person
Down along the Left Bank minding my own
Was knocked down by a human stampede
Got arrested for inciting a peacful riot
when all I wanted was a cup of tea
I was accused
I moved on

Down in Rome I wasn't getting enough
of the things that keeps a young man alive
My body stunk but I kept my funk
at a time when I was right out of luck
Getting desperate indeed I was
Looking like a tourist attraction
Oh my dear I better get out of here
'for the Vatican don't give no sanction
I wasn't ready for that, no no

I moved right out east yeah!
On the Peking ferry I was feeling merry
sailing on my way back here
I fell in love with a slit eyed lady
by the light of an eastern moon
Shangai Lil never used the pill
She claimed that it just ain't natural
She took me up on deck and bit my neck
Oh people I was glad I found her
Oh yeah I was glad I found her

I firmly believe that I didn't need anyone but me
I sincerely thought I was so complete
Look how wrong you can be

The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe
They wouldn't give you the time of day
But the slit eyed lady knocked me off my feet
God I was glad I found her
And if they had the words I could tell to you
to help you on the way down the road
I couldn't quote you no Dickens, Shelley or Keats
'cause it's all been said before
Make the best out of the bad just laugh it off
You didn't have to come here anyway
So remember, every picture tells a story don't it

Years of work and worry had left their mark behind.

May be quite continental,
But diamonds are a girl's best friend.

Diamonds are forever,
They are all I need to please me,
They can stimulate and tease me,
They won't leave in the night,
I've no fear that they might desert me.

Diamonds are forever,
Hold one up and then caress it,
Touch it, stroke it and undress it,
I can see ev'ry part,
Nothing hides in the heart to hurt me.
I don't need love,
For what good will love do me?
Diamonds never lie to me,

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you."

It rains diamonds mightly, in my Shangri-La lit brightly,
who could miss this so inviting?
Come stand mountain top and yell!

Diamonds drift upon the mist of forgetfull ness,
bringing a peace untold, as i fade away to become what my eyes see,
seeing into the eternity of Shangri-La

money can't buy me love"

Something from our latest Nobel Prize winner...

Dang, I was gonna make that exact same post!

"Into the light of a bridge that burns
As I drive from the city with the money that I earned
Into the dark of a starless sky
I'm staring into nothing, and I'm asking you why
Lord, let me make her a star
So the world can see who you really are

Little girl, you're old enough to understand
That you'll always be a stranger in a strange, strange land
The men are gonna come while you're fast asleep
So you'd better just stay close and hold on to me
If my little mocking bird don't sing
Then daddy won't buy her no diamond ring

Dear God, would you send me a child?
Oh God, would you send me a child?
'cause I wanna put it up on the TV screen
So the world can see what your true word means
Lord, would you just send me a sign?
Cause I just gotta know if I'm wasting my time!"

Fortunately, there's always plenty of Dylan to go with any topic!

But today, let's go with another favorite singer of mine:

"Some days are diamonds, some days are stones,
Sometimes the hard times, won't leave me alone,
Sometimes a cold wind blows, a chill in my bones,
Some days are diamonds, some days are stones."

Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger,
You legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter,
You piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers, and I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph,
And sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child, you winner and loser,
Come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young?

It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We let them come true

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever?
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever?

Since today is Chuck Berry's (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Berry) 90th birthday:

I hate to see that evening sun go down
I hate to see that evening sun go down
'Cause the woman I'm loving, she has left this town

If I'm feeling tomorrow just like I feel today
If I'm feeling tomorrow just like I feel today
I'm gonna pack my bags and make a getaway

St. Louis woman without your diamond ring
If you didn't have good looks, you wouldn't mean a thing
If it was not for powder and your super hair
Without the man who loves you, you wouldn't get nowhere nowhere

I got the St. Louis blues, blue as I can be
I got the St. Louis blues, blue as I can be
You know I love you, but you don't care for me

I got the St. Louis blues, blue as I can be
I got the St. Louis blues, blue as I can be
You know I love you, but you don't care for me
I got the St. Louis blues, blue as I can be

Woah, almost forgot this one:

"She's a rich girl
She don't try to hide it
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes

He's a poor boy
Empty as a pocket
Empty as a pocket with nothing to lose
Sing Ta na na
Ta na na na
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes..."

In 1965 Vietnam seemed like just another foreign war, but it wasn't
It was different in many ways, as so were those that did the fighting
In World War II the average age of the combat soldier was twenty-six
In Vietnam he was nineteen
In in-in-in-in-in-in Vietnam he was nineteen

You wait, little girl, on an empty stage
For fate to turn the light on
Your life, little girl, is an empty page
That men will want to write on

To write on

You are sixteen going on seventeen
Baby, it's time to think
Better beware, be canny and careful
Baby, you're on the brink

You are sixteen going on seventeen
Fellows will fall in line
Eager young lads and rogues and cads
Will offer you food and wine

Totally unprepared are you
To face a world of men
Timid and shy and scared are you
Of things beyond your ken

You need someone older and wiser
Telling you what to do
I am seventeen going on eighteen
I'll take care of you

- The Sound Of Music

Happy Birthday, happy birthday baby
Oh, I love you so
Sixteen candles make a lovely light
But not as bright as your eyes tonight
Blow out the candles
Make your wish come true
For I'll be wishing that you love me too

You're only sixteen but you're my teenage queen
You're the prettiest, the loveliest girl I've ever seen
Sixteen candles in my heart will glow
Forever and ever
For I love you so

Two songs!

Little Queenie by Chuck Berry

II got lumps in my throat
When I saw her comin' down the aisle
I got the wiggles in my knees
When she looked at me and sweetly smiled
Well there she is again
Standin' over by the record machine
Well she looks like a model
On the cover of a magazine
But she's too cute
To be a minute over seventeen

Meanwhile I was thinkin'

Well if she's in the mood
No need to break it
I got the chance and I oughta take it
If she can dance we can make it
C'mon queenie let's shake it

I said go, go, go, little queenie
I said go, go, go, little queenie
I said go, go, go, little queenie

Won't someone tell me
Who's the queen standin over by the record machine
Well she looks like a model
On the cover of a magazine
But she's too cute
To be a minute over seventeen
I said go, go, go, little queenie
I said go, go, go, little queenie
I said go, go, go, little queenie

Meanwhile, I was still thinkin', hmmmm,
Well if it's a slow one
We'll omit it
If it's a rocker, then we'll get it
If it's a good one, she'll admit it
C'mon queenie, let's get with it

I said go, go, go, little queenie
I said go, go, go, little queenie
I said go, go, go, little queenie

I said go, go, go, little queenie
I said go, go, go, little queenie
I said go, go, go, little queenie

Tin Soldiers by Stiff Little Fingers

He joined up to get a job and show he wasn't scared
Swapped boy scout hat for army cap
He thought he'd be prepared
At the age of seventeen, he was forced to choose
At the age of twenty-one, he's in Catch-22, all right!

He joined up for just three years, it seemed a small amount
But they didn't tell him that
The first two didn't count
At the age of seventeen how was he to know
That at the age of twenty-one he'd still have one to go?

Tin soldier
He signed away his name
Tin soldier
No chance for cash or fame
Tin soldier
Now he knows the truth
Tin soldier
He signed away his youth

He joined up 'cause Dad knew best to do right by his son
And now he hates and counts the dates
That mark time on square one
At the age of seventeen he did as he was told
Now at the age of twenty-one tin still won't turn to gold

Tin soldier
He signed away his name
Tin soldier
No chance for cash or fame
Tin soldier
Now he knows the truth
Tin soldier
He signed away his youth

If at the age of seventeen you fall in line too soon
Then at the age of twenty-one you'll still march to their tune
Hup, two, three, four
Hup, two, three, four
Hup, two, three, four
Hup, two, three, four

Tin soldiers, you signed away your name
Tin soldiers, no chance for cash or fame
Tin soldiers, now you know the truth
Tin soldiers, you sign away your youth
Tin soldiers, you go and join the queue
Tin soldiers, do what they want you to
Tin soldiers, they take away your name
Tin soldiers, they treat you all the same

Sign away your life
Sign away your life

Funny, I thought this would have been the first pick for this topic:

"They're really rockin' Boston,
In Pittsburgh, P. A.
Deep in the heart of Texas,
And 'round the Frisco Bay,
All over St. Louis,
And down in New Orleans,
All the cats want to dance with
Sweet little sixteen !"

The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans
Of mice and men

Back when I was just seventeen
I thought that I knew everything
I could make it in this scene
To be a rising star that only gleamed
But all the answers disagreed
With the questions held for me

I was legal now at twenty-one
I knew the way the world should run
My God just look what I had done
Simply drunk and having fun
Looked for friends, but I found none
All alone at twenty-one

The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans
Of mice and men

The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans
Of mice and men

At twenty-five I was surprised
That I was still even half alive
Somehow I managed to survive

I felt my body's doing time
And In my back a hundred knives
From friends at twenty-five

And now as Gabriel sounds my warning bell
I'd buy your life, if you would sell
A year or two, if less compelled

So live your life and live it well
There's not much left of me to tell
I just got back up each time I fell

The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans
Of mice and men

The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans
Of mice and men

The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans
Of mice and men

The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans
Of mice and men

The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans

Of mice and men
The fire burns on and on
That drives me on till all is gone
Except the simple plans
Of mice and men

This band (who were friends of mine at the time) dedicated this song to me at a gig the week I turned 21.

Now we are 21
Now we have to get things done
We can't watch Brady Bunch
We can't eat Captain Crunch

Aaaah!

When I was 17
I used to watch TV
but now I'm 21
I have to
get things done

every day we have to take
everything seriously

I just can't handle it
I still feel like a kid

When I was 10 years old
I didn't drink at all
But now I'm 21
and I drink way too much!

21 Now we are 21

We try but it's no use
Just lost our last excuse
And we'll be on the run
Now that we are 21
21 Now we are 21

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for a place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king

Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance

You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat
From the tambourine, oh yeah

You can dance, you can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh see that girl, watch that scene
Dig in the dancing queen

"I turned on the evening news
Saw a old man being interviewed
Turning a hundred and two today
Asked him what's the secret to life
He looked up from his old pipe
Laughed and said 'All I can say is:

Don't blink.
Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink.
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your "better half"
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't blink'."

The wind's whistling
My mind's twisting
I was making myself the usual cup of tea
When the doorbell strangely rang
Because I've been up here for a while
I'm starting to feel the monotony of a tower block
I'm not so manic now
I can uphold the weight of those neighbours
And she's lifting and throwing to the wall
The post natal harmonies of youth
When this younger man - 25
Advantageously took away her pride

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today
I got a lot to do". He said, "That's ok!"
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home, Dad
I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then

I usually don't post the entire lyrics of a song, but this one is a really good one.

_______________________
When I was seventeen, it was a very good year
It was a very good year for small town girls
And soft summer nights
We'd hide from the lights
On the village green
When I was seventeen

When I was twenty-one, it was a very good year
It was a very good year for city girls
Who lived up the stairs
With all that perfumed hair
And it came undone
When I was twenty-one

When I was thirty-five, it was a very good year
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls
Of independent means
We'd ride in limousines
Their chauffeurs would drive
When I was thirty-five

But now the days are short, I'm in the autumn of my years
And I think of my life as vintage wine
From fine old kegs
From the brim to the dregs
It poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year

Never say no - try anything twice
Til the angels come - and ask me to fly
Gonna be 18 til I die - 18 til I die
Can't live forever - that's wishful thinkin'
Who ever said that - must of bin' drinkin'
Don't wanna grow up - I don't see why
I couldn't care less if time flies by

18 til I die - gonna be 18 til I die

Gotta fit in a little bit of Springsteen there... :3

"I was eight years old,
and running with a dime in my hand,
To the bus stop to pick
up the paper for my old man,
I'd sit on his lap,
As the big old Buick steered as he drove through town,
He tassled my hair,
Said: 'Son, take a good look around - this is your hometown.'

This is yoo~our hoo~ometown,
This is your hometo~own,
This is yoo~our hoo~metown.

In '65
Tension was runnin' high at my high school.
There was a lot of fights,
Between the black and white, There was nothing you could do.
Two cars at a light,
On a Saturday night, in the back seat there was a gun,
Words were passed;
Shotgun blast; troubled times had come to my hometown,

To my~ hoo~ometown,
To my hometo~own,
To~ my~ hoo~metown.

Now Main Street's whitewashed windows
And vacant stores,
Seems like there ain't nobody
Want to come down here no more,
Yeah, they're closing down the textile mill
Across the railroad tracks,
Foreman says: 'these jobs are goin', boys,
And they ain't comin' back to your hometown. '

To your~ ho~ometown,
To your hometo~own,
To yo~our ho~ometown.

Last night me and Kate
We're layin' in bed, talkin' about getting out
Packin' up
Our bags, maybe headin' south...
We're 35,
We got a boy of our own now,
Last night I sat him up
Behind the wheel and said: 'son, take a good look around - this is your hometown...' "

So scared of getting older
I'm only good at being young
So I play the numbers game
To find a way to say that life has just begun
Had a talk with my old man
Said, "Help me understand"
He said, "Turn 68, you'll renegotiate
Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
Don't think I couldn't ever understand
I tried my hand
John, honestly, we'll never stop this train"

So may I say to each of you most gratefully
As I throw each one of you a kiss

This is my kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of people too
People who smile at you

And each time I roam, Chicago is
Calling me home, Chicago is
Why I just grin like a clown
It's my kind of town

My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of razzmatazz
And it has, all that jazz

And each time I leave, Chicago is

This is likely not about the Chicago bus route at all, but now I have an excuse to share a brilliant song.

Tuesday morning, 8:15
I was riding to work on the
Jackson Park Express
Seemed like any other day
Then my whole world changed
In a way I never could have guessed
Cause she walked in
Took the seat right across the aisle
I knew we had a special connection
The second I saw her smile

She smiled as if to say
"Hello, haven't seen you on this bus before"
I gave her a look that said
"Huh, life is funny, you never know what's in store
By the way, your hair is beautiful
I bet it smells like raisins"

She looked at me in a way that asked
"Did you have a nose job or something?
I'm only asking 'cause your nose looks slightly better
Than the rest of your face"
I arched my eyebrow, ever so slightly
Which was my way of asking
"Do you want my old Hewlett-Packard printer?
It still works, kinda
And I got a bunch of ink cartridges left"

Then, she let out a long sigh
Which, I took to mean
"Uh, mama, What is that deodorant you're wearing?
It's intoxicating
Why don't we drive out to the country sometime?
And collect deer ticks in a zip-lock baggie", oh yeah

I gave her a penetrating stare
Which could only mean
"You are my answer, my answer to everything
Which is why, I'll probably do very poorly
On the written part of my driver's test"

Yes, it all happened
On the Jackson Park Express
On the Jackson Park Express
On the Jackson Park Express
On the Jackson Park Express

I knew she was starting to fall for me
Cause she crinkled her nose, which unmistakably meant
"Baby, let's wear each other's clothes
And speak in a thick German accent
And maybe someday we can own and operate
Our own mobile pet-grooming service"
I couldn't hold back my feelings
I gave her a look that said
"I would make any sacrifice for your love
Goat, chicken, whatever
I could never hold you close enough
Let's have our bodies surgically grafted together
Oh, surgically grafted together"

She picked up her newspaper and started reading to herself
Which I'm sure was a way of telling me
"When you're cold, I will warm you
When you're shivering, I will hold you
When you're nauseous, I will give you Pepto-Bismol every hour for as long as the symptoms persist
Oh, I, I never, ever want to see you cry
So, please let me cauterize your tear ducts with an arc welder"
Then, I glanced down at her shirt for a second
In a way that clearly implied
"I like your boobs"

Yes, it all happened
On the Jackson Park Express
On the Jackson Park Express
On the Jackson Park Express
On the Jackson Park Express

I cleared my throat quietly, and then I looked away
And I'm sure it was obvious to her
Just what I was trying to say
I was trying to say, "Hey
I'd like to make a wall-sized mural
Out of all the dead skin cells
That you slough off while you sleep at night"
Whoa-o-oh, "I'd like to rip you wide open
And french-kiss every single one of your internal organs
Oh, I'd like to remove all your skin,
And wear your skin over my own skin
But not in a creepy way"

Then, I'm pretty sure, she looked at me
Out of the corner of her good eye
And though she never spoke a word, this is exactly what I heard
She was saying, "Oh!
I wanna make out with you in an abandoned toll-booth in the middle of a monsoon
I wanna ride dolphins with you in the moonlight
Until the staff at Sea World kicks us out
I want you inside me, oh-oh-oh, like a tapeworm"

I pointed to the side of my mouth as a way of indicating
"Hey, I think you got something on the side of your mouth"
She licked the corner of her lips as if to say, "Here?"
I nodded, implying, "Yeah, you got it"

And, then the bus stopped at 53rd Street, and she got up suddenly
"Where are you going? " pleaded my eyes, "Baby, don't you do this to me
Think of the beautiful children we could have someday
We could school them at home, raise them up the right way
And protect them from the evils of the world
Like trigonometry and prime numbers, oh no
Baby, please don't go"

She brushed my leg as she left the bus
I'm sure that was her way of saying
"I'm sorry this just isn't working out
You're suffocating me
I need some space to find out what life's all about
So, goodbye forever, my love"

And deep inside, I knew she was right
It was time for us both to move on
And though I never got her number, oh no no
She never bothered to leave her address, oh
But as long as I live, I'll never forget
Those precious moments we shared together

And you love some other man too

Whoa Louise, baby that will never do
Yeah, you know you can't love Big Bill, baby
And love some other man too

Louise, I believe
Somebody been fishin' in my pond
They been catchin' all my perches
Grinding up the bone

Whoa Louise, baby why don't you hurry home?
Yeah you know, you know, Louise
I ain't had no lovin', not since you been gone

Louise, you know you got ways
Like a rattlesnake and a squirrel
Now, when you start the lovin'
I declare, it's out of this world

Whoa Louise, baby, why don't you hurry home?
Yes, I ain't had no lovin' baby
Not since my Louise been gone

Louise, the big boat's up the river
Now she's on a bag of sand
Now she don't strike deep water
I declare she'll never land

Whoa Louise, baby why don't you hurry home?
Yeah you know, you know Louise
I ain't had no lovin', not since you been gone

"Well the South side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
You better just beware
Of a man named Leroy Brown

Now Leroy, more than trouble
You see he stand 'bout six foot four
All the downtown ladies call him "Treetop Lover"
All the men just call him "Sir"

And it's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog"

Don't let anyone say that it's just a game
For I've seen other teams, and it's never the same
When you're born in Chicago, you're blessed and you're healed
The first time you walk into Wrigley Field

Our heroes with pinstripes and heroes in blue
Give us the chance to feel like heroes too
Whether we'll win and if we should lose
We know someday we'll go all the way
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way

We are one with the Cubs
With the Cubs we're in love
Hold our heads high as the underdogs
We are not fairweather, but foul weather fans
Like brothers in arms, in the streets and the stands
There's magic in the ivy and the old scoreboard
The same one I stared at as a kid keeping score
In a world full of greed, I could never want more
And someday we'll go all the way
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way
Well, someday we'll go all the way
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way

And here's to the men and the legends we've known
Teaching us faith and giving us hope
United we stand, and united we'll fall
Down to our knees the day we win it all
Yeah Ernie Banks said, "Oh, let's play two!"
I think he meant two hundred years
In the same ballpark, our diamond, our jewel
The home of our joy and our fears
Keeping traditions, and wishes made new
The place where our grandfathers' fathers they grew
The spiritual feeling if I ever knew
And if you ain't been, I am sorry for you
And when the day comes for that last winning run
And I'm crying and covered in beer
I look to the sky and know I was right today
Someday we'll go all the way
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way

While rehearsing with Bianca
(She's the darling I adore),
Offstage I found
She's been around
But I still love her more and more;
So I've written her a love song
Though I'm just an amateur.
I'll sing it through
For all of you
To see if it's worthy of her.
Are yuh list'nin'?

Bianca, Bianca,
Oh, baby, will you be mine?
Bianca, Bianca,
You'd better answer yes or Poppa spanka.
To win you, Bianca,
There's nothing I would not do.
I would gladly give up coffee for Sanka,
Even Sanka, Bianca, for you.

"Beth", KISS:

Beth, I hear you callin'
But I can't come home right now
Me and the boys are playin'
And we just can't find the sound

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them callin'
Oh, Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

You say you feel so empty
That our house just ain't a home
And I'm always somewhere else
And you're always there alone

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them callin'
Oh, Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

Beth, I know you're lonely
And I hope you'll be alright
'Cause me and the boys will be playin'

She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one who will dance on the floor in the round

She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round

People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

"Bernadette, people are searchin' for the kind of love that we possess.
Some go on searchin' their whole life through,
And never find the love I've found in you.
And when I speak of you I see envy in other men's eyes,
And I'm well aware of what's on their minds,
They pretend to be my friend."

"Brenda and Eddie

And the king and the queen of the prom
Riding around
With their car topped down
And the radio on,
Nobody looked any finer
Or was more of a hit

We never knew
we could want more than that out of life,
Su~rely Brenda and Eddie would always know how to survive!

No man could test me, impress me, my cash flow would never ever end
Cause I'd have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl
Think what that money could bring

She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College
That's where I caught her eye
She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said in that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola
She said fine and then in thirty seconds time
She said 'I want to live like common people

Well what else could I do
I said I'll see what I can do"

"I was constantly told
How our lives were controlled
by the city.
How they keep us in debt
With the trends that they set
it's a pity.

Now the beautiful people in the magazines
Got the normal ones living beyond their means
And the things that they said
Made me go in my head
to the city.

When I finally came
There's some things still the same
in the city.
You still lie under the thumb
Of the rich and the young and the pretty.

Well they weren't much different than we might act
If there was that many others stacked and closely packed
It's an ancient idea
But it struck me so clear
in the city."

I'll do two:

They say music is the food of love,
Let's see if you are hungry enough,
Take a bite, take another, just like a good boy would,
Get a sweet thing on the side,
Home cooking, homicide,
Side order, could be your daughter,
Fingerlicking good

Come on baby, eat the rich,
Put the bite on the son of a bitch,
Don't mess around, don't give me no switch,
C'mon baby eat the rich
C'mon baby eat the rich

Sittin' here in a restaurant,
Tell the waiter just what you want
Is that the meat, you wanted to eat,
How would you ever know?
Hash browns an' bacon strips,
I love the way that you lick your lips,
No fooling, I can see you drooling,
Feel the hunger grow

Come on baby, eat the rich,
Put the bite on the son of a bitch,
Don't mess around, don't give me no switch,
C'mon baby eat the rich
C'mon baby eat the rich

Eat up, eat you, eat me,
Eat two, get one free
Shetland pony, extra pepperoni
Just pick up the phone,
Eat Greek, or eat Chinese,
Eat salad, or scarf up grease
You're on the shelf, maybe eat yourself,
Come on, bite my bone

Come on baby, eat the rich,
Put the bite on the son of a bitch,
Don't mess around, don't give me no switch,
C'mon baby eat the rich
C'mon baby eat the rich

"Eat the Rich" - Motörhead

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Yeah, yeah
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! y'all

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no

New topic, then?

This week has been incredibly complexing, exasperating and rather lacking of idiosyncratic redundancy, so I'm making this week's topic :

SONGS CONTAINING LONG/FANCY/COMPLICATED/ WORDS.
This week's topic is for lyrics and verses intended to show off, or stumble people. Song quote has to contain at least one such word, but the more the merrier, Because sometimes you want to impress your friends by reciting difficult lyrics.
what do you guys say we quote mondegreens next week? :smalltongue:

If you say it loud enough you'll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

- Mary Poppins

I am the very model of a modern Major-General,
I've information vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I know the kings of England, and I quote the fights historical,
From Marathon to Waterloo, in order categorical;
I'm very well acquainted too with matters mathematical,
I understand equations, both the simple and quadratical,
About binomial theorem I'm teeming with a lot o' news---
With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse.

I'm very good at integral and differential calculus,
I know the scientific names of beings animalculous;
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Major-General.

I know our mythic history, King Arthur's and Sir Caradoc's,
I answer hard acrostics, I've a pretty taste for paradox,
I quote in elegiacs all the crimes of Heliogabalus,
In conics I can floor peculiarities parablous.
I can tell undoubted Raphaels from Gerard Dows and Zoffanies,
I know the croaking chorus from the Frogs of Aristophanes,
Then I can hum a fugue of which I've heard the music's din afore,
And whistle all the airs from that infernal nonsense Pinafore.

Then I can write a washing bill in Balylonic cuneiform,
And tell you every detail of Caractacus's uniform;
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Major-General.

In fact, when I know what is meant by "mamelon" and "ravelin",
When I can tell at sight a chassepôt rifle from a javelin,
When such affairs as sorties and surprises I'm more wary at,
And when I know precisely what is meant by "commissariat",
When I have learnt what progress has been made in modern gunnery,
When I know more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery:
In short, when I've a smattering of elemental strategy,
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee---

For my military knowledge, though I'm plucky and adventury,
Has only been brought down to the beginning of the century;
But still in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Major-General.

"Sports Song":

Your sports team is vastly inferior
That simple fact is plainly obvious to see
We’re gonna kick your collective posterior
Of course you realize we’re speaking figuratively
Our stats are thoroughly impressive
Our coach really has the Midas touch
Our players are fast and strong and brave
And your guys, eh, not so much

In fact we’ve played teams across the nation
And you’re the worst one we’ve come across
Try to assimilate that information
And it just might help you cope with your impending loss
Oh, and if somehow we are still failing
To effectively articulate the points at hand
Allow us now to summarize them in a manner
That your feeble brains can understand

We’re great (we’re great)
And you suck (you suck)
We’re great (we’re great)
And you suck (you suck)
We’re great (we’re great)
And you suck (you suck)
You see there’s us (we’re great)
And then there’s you (you suck)
We’re really, really great (really great)
In contrast, you really suck (really suck)
Okay, full disclosure, we’re not that great
But nevertheless, you suck

Your sports team will soon suffer swift defeat
That theory’s backed up by empirical evidence
We’re gonna grind up your guys into burger meat
Again, of course, we’re speaking in the figurative sense
What’s the use of even going through the motions
When you know that you’re gonna lose anyhow
So why don’t you save us all some time
And give up now (you suck!)

And cadmium and calcium and chromium and curium.

There's sulfur, californium and fermium, berkelium,
And also mendelevium, einsteinium, nobelium,
And argon, krypton, neon, radon, xenon, zinc and rhodium,
And chlorine, carbon, cobalt, copper, tungsten, tin and sodium.

These are the only ones of which the news has come to Hahvard,
And there may be many others but they haven't been discahvered.

"My hands are shaky, my knees are weak
I can’t seem to stand on my own two feet
I’m breathing, but I'm wheezing
Feel like I'm emphyseming
My throat feels like a funnel
Filled with Weet-Bix and kerosene and
Oh no, next thing I know they call up triple 0
I’d rather die than owe the hospital 'til I get old
I get adrenaline straight to the heart
I feel like Uma Thurman post-overdosing kick start
Reminds me of the time when I was really sick and I
Had too much pseudoephedrine and I couldn’t sleep at night
Halfway down high street, Andy looks ambivalent
He’s probably wondering what I’m doing getting in an ambulance
The paramedic thinks I'm clever cos I play guitar
I think she’s clever cos she stops people dying
Anaphylactic and super-hypochondriactic
Should’ve stayed in bed today
I much prefer the mundane"

I can't believe this is the song that popped into my head after all these years:

"You're so pusillanimous, oh yea.
Nature's calling and I must go there.
A glass of wine with Gertrude Stein
I know I never share.
But I don't mind. That's just the kind
of cross each man must bare.
I'm on my way, I cannot stay another day."

I met her at the E.O.D.
She sank her dewclaws into me
We stepped out to watch the tide come in
She said "A little swim would do some wonders for your skin"
I shed my old self, slipped into the sea

One glance was all it took
She gave me the Innsmouth look
One glance was all it took
She gave me the Innsmouth look

I dig her batrachian lips
Her bulbous eyes and scaly hips
She's got secrets but they'll soon be mine
Oh, Father Dagon smiles upon me from the bas-relief
And something's fishy down at Devil Reef...

One glance was all it took
She gave me the Innsmouth look
One glance was all it took
She gave me the Innsmouth look

You're wondering who I am (secret secret I've got a secret)
Machine or mannequin (secret secret I've got a secret)
With parts made in Japan (secret secret I've got a secret)
I am the modren man

I've got a secret I've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide

To keep me alive, just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide, to keep me alive

I'm not a robot without emotions. I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not the saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control

Beyond my control. We all need control
I need control. We all need control

I am the modren man (secret secret I've got a secret)
Who hides behind a mask (secret secret I've got a secret)
So no one else can see (secret secret I've got a secret)
My true identity

Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For doing the jobs that nobody wants to
And thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For helping me escape just when I needed to
Thank you, thank you, thank you
I want to thank you, please, thank you

The problem's plain to see:
Too much technology
Machines to save our lives.
Machines dehumanize.

The time has come at last (secret secret I've got a secret)

Now everyone can see (secret secret I've got a secret)
My true identity...

I'm Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy!

Tam Lin (Scottish folksong; reprinted here as performed by the band Fairport Convention)

I forbid you maidens all that wear gold in your hair
To travel to Carterhaugh for young Tam Lin is there
None that go by Carterhaugh but they leave him a pledge
Either their mantles of green or else their maidenhead
Janet tied her kirtle green a bit above her knee
And she's gone to Carterhaugh as fast as go can she
She'd not pulled a double rose, a rose but only two
When up there came young Tam Lin, says "Lady, pull no more"
"And why come you to Carterhaugh without command from me?"
"I'll come and go", young Janet said, "and ask no leave of thee"

Janet tied her kirtle green a bit above her knee
And she's gone to her father as fast as go can she
Well, up then spoke her father dear and he spoke meek and mild
"Oh, and alas, Janet," he said, "I think you go with child"
"Well, if that be so," Janet said, "myself shall bear the blame
There's not a knight in all your hall shall get the baby's name"
For if my love were an earthly knight as he is an elfin grey
I'd not change my own true love for any knight you have"

Janet tied her kirtle green a bit above her knee
And she's gone to Carterhaugh as fast as go can she
"Oh, tell to me, Tam Lin," she said, "why came you here to dwell?"
"The Queen of Faeries caught me when from my horse I fell
And at the end of seven years she pays a tithe to Hell
I so fair and full of flesh and feared it be myself
But tonight is Hallowe'en and the faerie folk ride
Those that would their true love win at Miles Cross they must bide
First let past the horses black and then let past the brown
Quickly run to the white steed and pull the rider down
For I'll ride on the white steed, the nearest to the town
For I was an earthly knight, they give me that renown
Oh, they will turn me in your arms to a newt or a snake
But hold me tight and fear not, I am your baby's father
And they will turn me in your arms into a lion bold
But hold me tight and fear not and you will love your child
And they will turn me in your arms into a naked knight
But cloak me in your mantle and keep me out of sight"

In the middle of the night she heard the bridle ring
She heeded what he did say and young Tam Lin did win
Then up spoke the Faerie Queen, an angry queen was she
Woe betide her ill-fard face, an I'll death may she die
"Oh, had I known, Tam Lin," she said, "what this night I did see
I'd have looked him in the eyes and turned him to a tree"

I think we've done teh weird and complicated words long enough, now.
Let's not keep ruminating about them any more.

This means that it's time for a NEW TOPIC!™

Since it's starting to head towards Christmas, I think it should have something to do with that.
So, since the best Christmas movie of all time is Die Hard, lets go for Songs Featured In Christmas Movies.

It's a bit of a challenge and might require some research, but it should be a good one, I think.
Also, if possible, please reference not only the artist, but also the movie it's featured in.

Please note: Frozen is NOT a Christmas movie. Anyone not reading this warning and still posts a song from Frozen will have to change their avatar to the 'Olaf of Shame' until the next topic is announced next week.

"It was December 24th on Hollis Ave in the dark
When I see a man chilling with his dog in the park
I approached very slowly with my heart full of fear
Looked at his dog, oh my god, an ill reindeer

But man I was illin' because the man had a beard
And a bag full of goodies, 12 o'clock had neared
So I turned my head a second and the man was gone
But he left his driver's wallet smack dead on the lawn

I picked the wallet up then I took a pause
Took out the license and it cold said "Santa Claus"
A million dollars in it, cold hundreds of g's
Enough to buy a boat and matching car with ease

But I'd never steal from Santa, cause that ain't right
So I was going home to mail it back to him that night
But when I got home I bugged, cause under the tree
Was a letter from Santa and all the dough was for me"

Grandma Got Run over By a Reindeer
From Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
by Dr.Elmo Shropshire

"Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

She'd been drinking too much egg nog,
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she forgot her medication,
And she staggered through the door into the snow.

When they found her Christmas morning,
At the scene of the attack.
She had hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminating Claus marks on her back.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now we're all so proud of Grandpa,
He's been taking this so well.
See him in there watching football,
Drinking beer and playing cards with cousin Mel.

It's not Christmas without Grandma.
All the family's dressed in black.
And we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back? (send them back!)

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now the goose is on the table
And the pudding made of fig.
And the blue and silver candles,
That would just have matched the hair in Grandma's wig.

I've warned all my friends and neighbours.
" Better watch out for yourselves."
They should never give a license,
To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walking home from our house, Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Frozen IS a Christmas movie; it's got snow and a heartwarming story about family, and a reindeer....Hey , that should be the next topic: REINDEER

Frozen takes place in JUNE. Just because there's snow doesn't mean it's a Christmas movie. That would make The Thing a Christmas movie as well.

To the topic at hand, though...

"You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
"Rudolph, with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
You'll go down in history""

Love is not as cold as ice

your mysterious eyes will not help you
selling your reason will not bring you through
the desperate kingdom of love

There's another who looks from behind your eyes
I learned from you how to hide
from the desperate kingdom of love

At the end of this burning world
you'll stand proud, face upheld
and I'll follow you into heaven or hell
and I'll become as a girl
in the desperate kingdom of love"

Ok, tell me this wasn't the first song you all thought of...

"All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.

All you need is love, all you need is love,

"Love is in the air everywhere I look around
Love is in the air every sight and every sound
And I don't know if I'm being foolish
Don't know if I'm being wise
But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when I look in your eyes.

Love is in the air, in the whisper of the tree
Love is in the air in the thunder of the sea
And I don't know if I'm just dreaming
Don't know if I feel safe
But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when you call out my name

Love is in the air
Love is in the air
Oh, oh, oh, oh, uh"

Come Aboard. We're expecting you.
And Love, life's sweetest reward.
Let it flow, it floats back to you.

The Love Boat promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance.

And Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.

Ok, so Valentine's Day has passed, and the entries for the current topic seems to have dried up, so that gives us a perfect time for a NEW TOPIC!™

Usually, when picking a topic, I go through some examples in my head to try and figure out how easy or difficult the topic will be.
This time, the topic has me a bit stumped on good examples, but we'll try anyways.
Insipired by Pex's entry for the Love theme:

SONGS ABOUT BOATS
Ships, boats, canoes, kayaks, cruises... If it floats and transports people across the water, find a song about it.

Now, The theme from 'The Love Boat' is banned, as it was just used in the previous topic.

I love you KuReshtin! Um, I mean, cool topic , dude.

"An old pirate sold me on her.
We traded straight across.
The boat I thought I wanted.
For the boat I hate I lost.
She'll sing when that wind whistles,
When it doesn't, well she don't...
Just ask that old pirate,
That's floatin' on my river boat.

I could sail to the ocean,
If the wind would come and get me.
But I ain't goin' nowhere quickly,
I'm just a drunkin' sailor,
Waiting on a gale,
With a drink in my hand and a sailboat for sale.

Never make a handshake deal while sharing someone bottle,
Never buy a boat, son, that doesn't have a throttle!"

You people can watch while I'm scrubbing these floors
And I'm scrubbin' the floors while you're gawking
Maybe once ya tip me and it makes ya feel swell
In this crummy Southern town
In this crummy old hotel
But you'll never guess to who you're talkin'.
No. You couldn't ever guess to who you're talkin'.

Then one night there's a scream in the night
And you'll wonder who could that have been
And you see me kinda grinnin' while I'm scrubbin'
And you say, "What's she got to grin?"
I'll tell you.

There's a ship
The Black Freighter
With a skull on its masthead
Will be coming in

You gentlemen can say, "Hey gal, finish them floors!
Get upstairs! What's wrong with you! Earn your keep here!
You toss me your tips
And look out to the ships
But I'm counting your heads
As I'm making the beds
Cuz there's nobody gonna sleep here, honey
Nobody
Nobody!

Then one night there's a scream in the night
And you say, "Who's that kicking up a row?"
And ya see me kinda starin' out the winda
And you say, "What's she got to stare at now?"
I'll tell ya.

There's a ship
The Black Freighter
Turns around in the harbor
Shootin' guns from her bow

Now
You gentlemen can wipe off that smile off your face
Cause every building in town is a flat one
This whole frickin' place will be down to the ground
Only this cheap hotel standing up safe and sound
And you yell, "Why do they spare that one?"
Yes.
That's what you say.
"Why do they spare that one?"

All the night through, through the noise and to-do
You wonder who is that person that lives up there?
And you see me stepping out in the morning
Looking nice with a ribbon in my hair

And the ship
The Black Freighter
Runs a flag up its masthead
And a cheer rings the air

By noontime the dock
Is a-swarmin' with men
Comin' out from the ghostly freighter
They move in the shadows
Where no one can see
And they're chainin' up people
And they're bringin' em to me
Askin' me,
"Kill them NOW, or LATER?"
Askin' ME!
"Kill them now, or later?"

Noon by the clock
And so still by the dock
You can hear a foghorn miles away
And in that quiet of death
I'll say, "Right now.
Right now!"

Then they'll pile up the bodies
And I'll say,
"That'll learn ya!"

And the ship
The Black Freighter
Disappears out to sea
And
On
It
Is
Me

"There's a man I meet walks up our street
He's a worker for the council
Has been twenty years
And he takes no lip off nobody
And litter off the gutter
Puts it in a bag
And never seems to mutter
And he packs his lunch in a "sunblest" bag
The children call him "boogie"
He never lets on
But I know 'cause he once told me
He let me know a secret about the money in his kitty
He's gonna buy a dinghy
Gonna call her dignity
And I'll sail her up the west coast
Through villages and towns
I'll be on my holidays
They'll be doing their rounds
They'll ask me how I got her I'll say "I saved my money"
They'll say isn't she pretty that ship called dignity"

"Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around

Come loose your dogs upon me
And let your hair hang down
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you come around

We talk about it all night long
We define our moral ground
But when I crawl into your arms
Everything, it comes tumbling down

Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around"

Ok, I guess that means that it's time for a NEW TOPIC!™

Kind of staying in the same vicinity as the previous topic while drawing inspiration from the creepy octopus 'toy' I have on my computer monitor that I got in a Christmas cracker last year, I initially thought we'd have a Cthulhu theme.
then i realised there probably wasn't a whole lot of songs about Cthulhu, so I decided to broaden the topic a bit.

FISH!
Yeah, that's right. I went from a Great Old One to fish.
So, think of your songs about fish, squid, octopuses, whales, sharks.. Hell, sea-dwelling creatures in general.
Note: Songs from 'The Little Mermaid' are not acceptable for this topic.

I fear that I need to repeat myself thus-

The Mariner's Revenge Song

by The Decemberists

We are two mariners
Our ship's sole survivors
In this belly of a whale
It's ribs are ceiling beams
It's guts are carpeting
I guess we have some time to kill

You may not remember me
I was a child of three
And you, a lad of eighteen
But, I remember you
And I will relate to you
How our histories interweave
At the time you were
A rake and a roustabout
Spending all your money
On the whores and hounds
(Oh, oh)

You had a charming air
All cheap and debonair
My widowed mother found so sweet
And so she took you in
Her sheets still warm with him
Now filled with filth and foul disease
As time wore on you proved
A debt-ridden drunken mess
Leaving my mother
A poor consumptive wretch
(Oh, oh)

And then you disappeared
Your gambling arrears
The only thing you left behind
And then the magistrate
Reclaimed our small estate
And my poor mother lost her mind
Then, one day in spring
My dear sweet mother died
But, before she did
I took her hand as she, dying, cried:
(Oh, oh)

"Find him, find him
Tie him to a pole and break
His fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he
Wakes up naked
Clawing at the ceiling
Of his grave"

It took me fifteen years
To swallow all my tears
Among the urchins in the street
Until a priory
Took pity and hired me
To keep their vestry nice and neat
But, never once in the employ
Of these holy men
Did I ever, once turn my mind
From the thought of revenge
(Oh, oh)

One night I overheard
The prior exchanging words
With a penitent whaler from the sea
The captain of his ship
Who matched you toe to tip
Was known for wanton cruelty
The following day
I shipped to sea
With a privateer
And in the whistle
Of the wind
I could almost hear
(Oh, oh)

"Find him, find him
Tie him to a pole and break
His fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he
Wakes up naked
Clawing at the ceiling
Of his grave

There is one thing I must say to you
As you sail across the sea
Always, your mother will watch over you
As you avenge this wicked deed"

And then, that fateful night
We had you in our sight
After twenty months, it seemed
Your starboard flank abeam
I was getting my muskets clean
When came this rumbling from beneath
The ocean shook
The sky went black
And the captain quailed
And before us grew
The angry jaws
Of a giant whale

Don't know how I survived
The crew all was chewed alive
I must have slipped between his teeth
But, oh, what providence
What divine intelligence
That you should survive
As well as me
It gives my eye great joy
To see your eyes fill with fear
To lean in close
And I will whisper
The last words you'll hear
(Oh, oh)

"Holy Smoke! What a scuffle!
All hands are excited,
It's a wonder to me that there's nobody drowned;
There's a bustle, confusion, the wonderful hustle,
They're all jiggin' squid on the Squid Jiggin' Ground.

Says Barney, "The squids are on top of the water,
I just felt me jiggers jig five fathoms down
But a squid in the boat squirted right down his throat,
Now he's swearin'like mad on the Squid Jiggin' Ground."

"Murmaider II: The Water God"

by Dethklok

The gods watch over you
And they consider what you've done

But now you've hidden away
To gain your strength
Deep in a cave
Your power is regained

And your legacy has spread
To the deepest of the sea
The one that brought them vengeance
That fights for his belief

He can swim through matter
He has poisoned teeth
His tentacles have murdered
His scream can kill the week

He's got
Explosives
Check
Corrosives
Check
A master of the art of murder
Mermaids weep the blackened tears

So you swim to a sunken ship
Invited by a soul who bleeds from the lips
This prophet who beckons you wades in the dark
Speaks an ancient language this language is of
Sharks

He says you are the one that I decree
The one that can save us and set us free
You've gained the power of a deity
You have the strength to wake us from this
Sleep

And so you swim on
Swim on
And so you swim on
Swim on
Keep swimming now

And the prophet gives to you this warning
If this path is chosen you'll be met with strife
For you'll be seen as an enemy of the sacred

And the gods will curse you
For the rest of your life
And you say

I get by just fine
Check
I've known much worse life
Check
I've conquered dark times
Check
They should fear my mind
Check

So now you know then go then
Swim on through the cold then
Harness your strength
Because one day you may be called
To meet the mighty gods
Deep within the ocean
And if you're not prepared
Your soul will not be spared

Your eyes have gone black
You'll never look back
You'll never stop swimming
You'll always be tracked

Your life has transformed
Your power has grown
Your minions stretch for leagues
For a bloodied coral throne

A crown of murdered foes
Will sit upon your head
Those that wish to challenge you
Will wish that they were dead

The beasts of the sea will collect and submit
Prey for your forgiveness and live as you
Permit

And you say:

I am the water god

You will bow to the water god
You will live for the water god
And you will die for the water god

Live for the water god
Die for the water god

And the deities loom nearer
They will find you...

The bottom of the sea

Why should I stay here?
Why should I stay?

I'd be crazy not to follow
Follow where you lead
Your eyes
They turn me

Turn me on to phantoms
I'll follow to the end of the earth
And fall off
Yeah, everybody leaves

And this is my chance

Just look at the world around you
Right here on the ocean floor
Such wonderful things surround you

Joel: Nothing better shows my taste than what I wear below my waist!

Tom: Say! Pants! Hoo hoo!

Crow: Pants!

Bots: Sing the praises of pants!

Tom: They help me suck in my gut; they always cover up my butt! Huh? Pants!

Crow: Pants!

All: Sing the praises of pants!

Crow: Wear them and you're a cool guy as long as you zip up your fly!

Tom: Zip! Pants!

Crow: Pants!

Bots: Sing the praises of pants!

Joel: (spoken) That's right, ladies and gentlemen! Consider the PANT! You know, the Pants Association urges you to wear your pants at least three times a day!

Crow: The great men of our time have all worn pants! Roosevelt! Churchill! de Gaulle! Gandhi!- Well, almost all of them!

Tom: Dolphins! One of the smartest mammals on earth. Do they wear pants? NO! But they wish they did! That's how smart they are!

Joel: What keeps our legs all warm and hot?

All: Pants!

Crow: What prevents a buffalo shot?

All: Pants!

Tom: What do they got that I ain't got?

All: Pants.

Tom: Well, you can say that again! Huh?

Your love is like bad medicine
Bad medicine is what I need, whoa
Shake it up just like bad medicine
There ain't no doctor that can cure my disease

Bad medicine

I ain't got a fever, got a permanent disease
And it'll take more than a doctor to prescribe a remedy
I got lots of money but it isn't what I need
Gonna take more than a shot to get this poison out of me
And I got all the symptoms count 'em 1, 2,3

First you need, (That's what you get for falling in love)
Then you bleed, (You get a little but it's never enough)
nd when you're on your knees (That's what you get for falling in love)
Now, this boy's addicted 'cause your kiss is the drug, whoa

Your love is like bad medicine, bad medicine is what I need, whoa
Shake it up just like bad medicine
There ain't no doctor that can cure my disease
Bad, bad medicine

I don't need no needle to be givin' me a thrill
And I don't need no anesthesia or a nurse to bring a pill
I got a dirty down addiction that doesn't leave a track
I got a jones for your affection like a monkey on my back
There ain't no paramedic gonna save this heart attack

When you need, (That's what you get for falling in love)
Then you bleed, (You get a little but it's never enough)
And when you're on your knees (That's what you get for falling in love)
Now, this boy's addicted 'cause your kiss is the drug, whoa

Your love is like bad medicine, bad medicine is what I need, whoa
Shake it up just like bad medicine
So let's play doctor, babe, and cure my disease.

Bad medicine

It's what I want.
Bad, bad medicine
Ow, it's what I need

I need a respirator 'cause I'm running out of breath
You're an all night generator wrapped in stockings and a dress
When you find your medicine you take what you can get
'Cause if there's something better baby well they haven't found it yet
Whoa

Your love is like bad medicine, bad medicine is what I need, whoa
Shake it up just like bad medicine
There ain't no doctor that can cure my disease

Your love is like bad medicine, bad medicine is what I need, whoa
Shake it up just like bad medicine
There ain't no doctor that can cure my disease

Bad, bad medicine is what I want
Bad bad medicine. Oo baby, oo babe

I gotta go I gotta I gotta go I gotta medicine
I got I gotta do it again, wait a minute wait a minute
Hold on I'm not done. One more time. With feeling
Come on. All-right. Help me out now

Your love is like bad medicine, bad medicine is what I need, whoa
Shake it up just like bad medicine
There ain't no doctor that can cure my disease

Your love is like bad medicine, bad medicine is what I need, whoa
Shake it up just like bad medicine
There ain't no doctor that can cure my disease

Bad, bad medicine is what I want
Bad bad medicine. Oo baby, oo babe

I gotta go I gotta I gotta go I gotta medicine
I got I gotta do it again, wait a minute wait a minute
Hold on I'm not done. One more time. With feeling
Come on. All-right. Help me out now

Your love is like bad medicine, bad medicine is what I need, whoa
Shake it up just like bad medicine
You got the potion that can cure my disease

Of all the songs that glorify women in tight pants, this is the first one that came to mind.

I'm so ashamed....:smallfrown:

"Honky tonk badonkadonk!
Keepin' perfect rhythm make you want to swing along,
Got it goin' on like Donkey Kong,
And ooh well shut my mouth, slap your grandma!
There ought to be a law, get the sheriff on the phone.
Lord have mercy how'd she even get them britches on?
With that honky tonk badonkadonk."

Money talks
But it don't sing and dance
And it don't walk
And long as I can have you
Here with me, I'd much rather be
Forever in blue jeans

Honey's sweet
But it ain't nothin' next to baby's treat
And if you pardon me
I'd like to say
We'll do okay
Forever in blue jeans

"Lots of girls and lots of boys
Lots of smells and lots of noise
Playing football in the park
Kicking pushbikes after dark
Baggy trousers, dirty shirt
Pulling hair and eating dirt
Teacher comes to break it up
Back of the 'ead with a plastic cup

Oh what fun we had
But, did it really turn out bad
All I learnt at school
Was how to bend not break the rules
Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to the days

Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers
Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers..."

She's a hard lovin' woman, got me feelin' mean,

"I know a place
Where the grass is really greener
Warm, wet and wild
There must be something in the water
Sippin' gin and juice
Laying underneath the palm trees (undone)
The boys break their necks
Tryna creep a little sneak peek (at us)

You could travel the world
But nothing comes close
To the golden coast
Once you party with us
You'll be falling in love
Oooooh Oh Oooooh

California girls
We're unforgettable
Daisy Dukes
Bikinis on top
Sun-kissed skin
So hot
We'll melt your popsicle
Oooooh Oh Oooooh

California girls
We're undeniable
Fine, fresh, fierce
We got it on lock
West Coast represent
Now put your hands up
Oooooh Oh Oooooh"

No action in the thread for a few days, so we'll get a NEW TOPIC!™ going.

Since my morning started pretty eventful with the flat above mine flooding, and it travelling down the walls and shorting out the main fuse in my flat and starting to flood my flat, I figured the topic for this week will be:

DISASTERS - Floods, storms, tsunamis, earthquakes. Bad weather and natural disasters of all sorts.

Rise and shine and give God your glory, glory!
Rise and shine and give God your glory, glory!
Rise and shine and (clap) give God your glory, glory!
Children of the Lord.

The Lord said to Noah, "There's gonna be a floody, floody."
Lord said to Noah, "There's gonna be a floody, floody."
"Get those children (clap) out of the muddy, muddy!"
Children of the Lord.

So Noah, he built him, he built him an arky, arky.
Noah, he built him, he built him an arky, arky.
Made it out of (clap) hickory barky, barky.
Children of the Lord.

The animals, they came on, they came on by twosies, twosies.
The animals, they came on, they came on by twosies, twosies.
Elephants and (clap) kangaroosies, roosies.
Children of the Lord.

It rained, and poured, for forty daysies, daysies.
Rained, and poured, for forty daysies, daysies.
Nearly drove those (clap) animals crazy, crazy.
Children of the Lord.

The sun came out and dried up the landy, landy.
Sun came out and dried up the landy, landy.
Everything was (clap) fine and dandy, dandy.

Now that is the end, the end of my story, story.
That is the end, the end of my story, story.
Everything is (clap) hunky dory, dory.

That old dust storm killed my baby,
But it can't kill me, Lord
And it can't kill me.

That old dust storm killed my family,
But it can't kill me, Lord
And it can't kill me.

That old landlord got my homestead,
But he can't get me, Lord,
And he can't get me.

That old dry spell killed my crop, boys,
But it can't kill me, Lord
And it can't kill me.

That old tractor got my home, boys,
But it can't get me, Lord
And it can't get me.

That old tractor run my house down,
But it can't get me down,
And it can't get me.

That old pawn shop got my furniture,
But it can't get me, Lord,
And it can't get me.

That old highway's got my relatives,
But it can't get me, Lord,
And it can't get me.

That old dust might kill my wheat, boys,
But it can't kill me, Lord
And it can't kill me.

I have weathered a-many a dust storm,
But it can't get me, boys,
And it can't kill me.

That old dust storm, well, it blowed my barn down,
But it can't blow me down,
And it can't blow me down.

That old wind might blow this world down,
But it can't blow me down,
It can't kill me.

That old dust storm's killed my baby,
But it can't kill me, Lord
And it can't kill me.

Here's one of my favorite Pete Seeger songs:

"Well it looked so green and fair,
When I built my shanty there,
I figured I was all set for life.
I put on my Sunday best, with my fancy scalloped vest,
And I went to town to pick me out a wife.
She blowed away,
She blowed away,

My Oklahoma woman blowed away.
Mister, as I bent to kiss her,
She was picked up by a twister,
My Oklahoma woman blown away!"

It's early morning, the sun comes out
Last night was shaking and pretty loud
My cat is purring, it scratches my skin
So what is wrong with another sin?

The bitch is hungry, she needs to tell
So give her inches and feed her well
More days to come, new places to go
I've got to leave, it's time for a show

Here I am
Rock you like a hurricane
Here I am
Rock you like a hurricane

My body is burning, it starts to shout
Desire is coming, it breaks out loud
Lust is in cages till storm breaks loose
Just have to make it with someone I choose

The night is calling, I have to go
The wolf is hungry, he runs the show
He's licking his lips, he's ready to win
On the hunt tonight for love at first sting

Here I am
Rock you like a hurricane
Here I am
Rock you like a hurricane

Ridin' the storm out,
Waitin' for the thaw out,
On a full moon night in the Rocky Mountain winter.

Wine bottle's low,
Watchin' for the snow,
Thinkin' about what I've been missin' in the city.

And I'm not missin' a thing,
Watching the full moon crossin' the range.

Ridin' the storm out,
Ridin' the storm out,
Ridin' the storm out,
Ridin' the storm out.

Lady beside me,
She's there to guide me,
She says that alone we've finally found our home.

And the wind outside is frightening,
But it's kinder than the lightning life in the city,
It's a hard enough to live but it gives back of what you give.

And I'm not missin' a thing,
Watching the full moon crossin' the range.

Ridin' the storm out,
Ridin' the storm out,
Ridin' the storm out,
Ridin' the storm out.

Oh, yes I am.

Ridin' the storm out,
I'm a waitin' for the thaw out,
On a full moon night in the Rocky Mountain winter.

Wine bottle's low,
I'm a watchin' for the snow,
Thinkin' about what I've been missin' in the city.

Oh, and I'm not missin' a thing,
I'm watching the full moon crossin' the range.

Ridin' the storm out,

Ridin', Ridin', Ridin' the storm out!

Ok, not a whole lot of takers for the disaster theme, then.

So, let's try a NEW TOPIC!™

Since the boards are srictly against real world religion, and this coming weekend is very much a religious holiday for a lot of people, let's try a bit of a spin on things.

Topic of the week is: EAST! or west. Or North. or South by southwest. Basically anything that has to do with a direction.

GO!

I had a hard time picking , so I went with them all...

"I may be somewhere east of nowhere,
Somewhere west of a town,
That sits just north of an unknown latitude,
I will sail this ship forever,
Till I reach peace of mind,
Live my life somewhere south of you."

Oh what the hey, I'll use his songbook again:

- "Pastures of Plenty"

Eastbound and down,
Loaded up and truckin'
A-we gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go,
And a short time to get there.
I'm eastbound, just watch ol' Bandit run!

Keep your foot hard on the pedal,
Son, nevermind them brakes.
Let it all hang out,
'Cause we've got a run to make.
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta,
And there's beer in Texarcana,
And we'll bring it back,
No matter what it takes!

Eastbound and down,
Loaded up and truckin'
A-we gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go,
And a short time to get there.
I'm eastbound, just watch ol' Bandit run!
(X2)

Ol' Smokey's got them ears on,
He's hot on your trail,
And he ain't gonna rest 'til you're in jail!
So you got to dodge,
And you got to duck 'im.
You gotta keep that diesel truckin'!
Just put that hammer down,
And give it hell!

Eastbound and down,
Loaded up and truckin'
A-we gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go,
And a short time to get there.
I'm eastbound, just watch ol' Bandit run!

I can't decide which one to post, so have a Pet Shop Boys double-whammy:

"Sometimes you're better off dead
There's a gun in your hand, it's pointing at your head
You think you're mad, too unstable
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables
In a restaurant in a West end town
Call the police there's a mad man around
Running down underground
To a dive bar in a West end town

In a West end town a dead end world
The East end boys and West end girls
In a West end town in a dead end world
The East end boys and West end girls
West end girls"

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls

"Together! We will go our way
Together! We will leave someday
Together! Your hand in my hands
Together! We will make our plans
Together! We will fly so high
Together! Tell all our friends goodbye
Together! We will start life new
Together! This is what we'll do

Go West! Life is peaceful there
Go West! In the open air
Go West! Where the skies are blue
Go West! This is what we're gonna do"

If all our life is but a dream
Fantastic posing greed
Then we should feed our jewelery to the sea
For diamonds do appear to be
Just like broken glass to me

And then she said she can't believe
Genius only comes along
In storms of fabled foreign tongues
Tripping eyes, and flooded lungs
Northern downpour sends its love

Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don't you go down
Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

The ink is running toward the page
It's chasin' off the days
Look back at both feet
And that winding knee
I missed your skin when you were east
You clicked your heels and wished for me

Through playful lips made of yarn
That fragile Capricorn
Unraveled words like moths upon old scarves
I know the world's a broken bone
But melt your headaches, call it home

Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don't you go down
Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane (hey moon) in (hey moon)
The easy (hey moon) mornin'
Weather-vanes (hey moon) my (hey moon)
