Recently I decided to run a human Bard/Ranger. I chose that combo mainly because the idea of playing a snake charmer sounded awesome and it opened up many roleplaying opportunities. However I'm having trouble naming him. He comes from a Persian inspired culture so I used a Arabic name generator but I'm not having much luck, any advice?

I also chose the combo because I can use my flute as a bard to support the other players in my group, I plan on multi classing with the ranger so I can take a viper as a companion and control it with my flute, hence the Snake Charmer.

{Scrubbed} as I wasn't awake when I wrote it.

I would suggest trying to find a copy of The Arabian Nights or some Persian or Indian legends (snake charmers seem more Indian to me) and then look for a name you like.

Th other option if you can find a native speaker is to think of what the character might be named by their parents and see if you can get it translated. For example I once played a fire genasi - daughter of an Efreet and a Fire wizard so I managed to find out (I asked my aunt) what "daughter of fire" would come out as ("bint Haraq") so then I just needed to find a first name. It doesn't have to be accurate, just sound good.

Um, Persian =/= Arab (http://www.persiansarenotarabs.com/)

Irinian/Persian names (http://persia.org/Information/Iranian_names.html)

Arab names (http://www.sudairy.com/) (among other things

Took me all of 5 seconds with Google seraching for "Persian names" and "arab names"

Its not that I couldn't find one, I just wasn't happy with the results.

Unhappy with what? The names? What's wrong? Are there not enough names? I don't know enough about Persian and Arab names to know how complete those lists are.

Plug in words you think are thematically appropriate in an English->Farsi translator. Yes you may be calling you character Scalesong, Black eyes, Joseph Smith, or Snakelips in Farsi but it may well sound cool around the table which is the point.
