I am specifically looking for a way for a ranger to grab the moon domain.

What do you need, the granted power or the spells?

Well, you can dip Contemplative, but that's level 10 minimum (8 with the Favored (http://dndtools.eu/feats/cityscape--53/favored--1086/) feat), and assumes you already have at least 1 level of divine spellcasting. Not to mention the whole "must encounter your deity/your deity's servant/an embodiment of your alignment" clause. I can't really think of any ways other than Cleric 1 or Contemplative 1.

3.5 or PF?

For PF, Exalted prestige class is the only way to add a domain to a class that doesn't already have one (Cleric, Inquisitor or Druid+Paladin of 1 archetype) and get spells. Hellknight will let you get some domains, but only their powers. If you want JUST the spells, there are plenty of other ways to get them in PF.

For 3.5, everyone else has already said how.

For Paladin, Sacred Servant gets you a domain actually.

For Ranger you may need third party or homebrew.

Rangers use Divine spells at 4th level, so from there it's a matter of getting Knowledge (Religion) as a class skill. So Ranger entry to Contemplative isn't impossible.

Hence "Paladin of 1 archetype".
