I’m not sure but wasn’t there a topic about a generic class for tome of battle?

It was for an NPC Class, I believe. The Initiate or something.

Or just use the warrior and make Martial Study and Martial Stance bonus feats for him.

Do what they did with the fighter.

Increase his HD, give him 2 more Skill Points per level, and Half his number of feats. Than just give him the ability to choose one discipline and slowly get a few manuevers from it, slowly enough so that they only reach level 6.

Actually, both suggestion would make an less powerful version of them, and look what they did with the spellcaster he can cast cure spells and fling fireballs! I was thinking more along the line between swordsage and warblade. He would have aces to all the paths.

Ok, I think I get what you mean now.
I would take the swordsage, strip him of all his class features (except for the manuevers) and make all disciplines available to him.

By not increasing his number of manuevers know/readied you avoid a big increase in power. And increasing his versatility seems to balance taking away his other abilities.

yea, that would probably work best. im not sure about recovery yet. i supose you could use the swordsage recovery and make the warblade recovery a class feature?

Don't forget to give them bonus feats, I suggest 1 at 1st level and one at every level dividable by 5.

The initiator

Hit Die: d6.
Base Save Bonuses: Two good saves and one poor save.
Class Skills: Choose any ten skills as class skills, plus Craft and Profession.
Skill Points: 4 + Int modifier (or four times this number at 1st level).
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: All simple weapons, all martial melee weapon(including those that can be used as throwing weapon) and light armor.
Bonus Feats The initiator gets one bonus feat at 1st level, , and another one at every fifth class level thereafter (5th, 10th, 15 and so on).

Maneuvers and stances: the initiator can learn manouvers and stances from all the nine disciplines. you can recover an expanded maneuver by spending a full round action to meditate.

They should automatically have all of the key skills as class skills, I should think.

YPU

well, the generic spellcaster hasnt spellcraft as skill, so i supose this one realy shouldnt have specific skills. wel, you did make me remember that he should get craft and profesion free, but i actualy seem to have copied that without noticing.

The key skills are rather important when it comes to certain maneuvers, though. Any initiator should really max them out, so, seeing as they'd choose them anyway, why not make them permanent class skills?

YPU

I suppose concentrate and spellcraft are rather important to a caster, probably even more important than the key skills, so I’ll keep it open, to stay in the spirit of the original classes.

Aximili

Depends on the key skill.
Balance is useless for Iron Heart, but Concentrate and Jump are vital to Diamond Mind and Tiger Claw.

YPU

do note you can select whatever skills you want, so if you will only take 2 or 3 paths you dont need to take the skills for the other paths, while giving the class all the skills for the paths and some skills to select would be to powerfull.

So, I think there is need to ad some quick recovery class ability. To make it the same as the warblades would be much to powerful, since this class has much more maneuvers. Perhaps an ability that allows you to recover up to your level of maneuvers. This still requires a full round of meditation that does not provokes attack of opportunity.

Why bother? They're all going to take Adaptive Style at first level anyway.

Exactly what I was thinking.

YPU
2007-03-03, 06:22 AM
damn, dident think of that. strange, i was the first in my gaming group to find out it worked that way as wel.

Yuki Akuma

Am I the only one who thinks that feat may be a little too good? I mean, when every swordsage takes it... it's almost like Natural Spell...

YPU

for some reason wizards specificly said it does work that way, so, perhaps to planend it to work like this all the way? or not of course.

Aximili
2007-03-03, 02:07 PM
Yes, it was in the ask wizards. It works exactly that way. They even admitted every swordsage should take it.
