View Full Version : Pathfinder Is the "Animal Archive" Remotely Worthwhile?

The Animal Archive sounds interesting, but it's only 32 pages, which seems pretty flimsy for a supplement. And the product description is vague enough that I can't tell if it mainly covers options for existing animals, or if there's a substantial number of new animals that aren't in the Bestiaries or the PRD.

Given that I'm looking for stats on new animals, is there anything in there that would justify the cover price?

If the stats are all you want, just about all of it is up on the PFSRD for free. For example, the Carnivalist Rogue (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/rogue/archetypes/paizo---rogue-archetypes/carnivalist), Mad Dog Barbarian (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/barbarian/archetypes/paizo---barbarian-archetypes/mad-dog) and Animal Companion archetypes (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/animal-companions/animal-companion-archetypes) all come from that book,

In Pathfinder, you generally buy books for readability, because you like the art, because you're planning to use the material in PFS, because you just like having a big offline library or some combination of the above; if all you want is the crunch, the SRD has that and is much easier to search.

Okay, thanks as always for your Pathfinder acumen.

Is there a way to search the PRD for creatures with the animal type? I can find the definition easily enough, but it would be great to have a master list of all the animals that have been statted up so far.

Advanced Monster Search (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/tools/advanced-monster-search)

Select your allowed sources and off you go.

Its nice to finally have a hard answer on what familiars can do what body wise, but yeah, just use the SRD.
