Counterattack [General]

Prerequisites

Int 13, Combat Expertise.

Benefit

You may use this feat if you have not taken a full-attack in a turn when an enemy makes a melee attack against you. Make an attack against that opponent if they are using a natural attack or against the weapon they are using if they are using a weapon. You may only make one of these attacks in a round and this counts as an attack of opportunity.

Special

A fighter may select Counterattack as one of his fighter bonus feats.

Improved Counterattack [General]

Prerequisites

Int 13, Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes.

Benefit

You may make as many attacks with counterattack in a round as you could make opportunity attacks. These attacks count as your opportunity attacks.

Special

A fighter may select Improved Counterattack as one of his fighter bonus feats.

While this appears similar to karmic strike it instead attacks the weapon or natural implement that is making the attack. The difference is that you do not need to threaten the area to return the attack because you wait for the attacker to come to you in one way or another. This is useful when fighting an opponent who continues to move away from you while attacking from reach. It also has other uses but meh.

What kind of action is this? Is it made on your turn, or out-of-turn as an immediate/free action?

I'd suggest clarifying that counterattacks would be made against the opponent if they are using an unarmed strike or a natural weapon; unarmed strikes are natural weapons, but I think the clarification would be useful.
