First of all, I'd first like to take a moment to thank the moderators for their dilligent work - you guys are pretty cool! However, the current approach to combatting spam, which is to report posts individually and have the mods delete them, is not working. A lot of it does get deleted, but there are always posts that slip past the radar. For example, here's (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?354855-new-one-for-change&p=17580857#post17580857) a spam thread that's survived for more than a month, and here's (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/member.php?93890-alkami) a user who has spammed posts advertising blatantly illegal goods in legitimate threads.
I know for a fact that these posts have been reported (because I did that, repeatedly) but no action has been taken. That's understandable, it takes time to review these reports, and the mods have more pressing issues to deal with. I know that "potential solutions and there costs are being evaluated", so I'd like to add a suggestion to the list: The ability to report users in addition to individual posts, as well as the ability, for mods, to ban a user and delete all of their posts at once (if that doesn't exist already). In that way, if a user is reported to be a spambot, and the report is verified to be true, the mods can simply wipe out the spam the user is responsible for. I know a few places that do this, and it seems to be working out pretty well.
