I'm thinking about making a character who uses a Grosse Messer (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Vfes9jAmNNI) but I'm not sure what stats I should use to represent it.
I'm thinking Falchion but any input would be helpfull.

Well, taking a look at it, the sword seems only about 3 and a half feet long which probably keeps it in the longsword-bastard sword range rather than the falchion-greatsword (not that the D+D falchion looks much like a historical one at all).

Yes, the Falchion would be appropriate for D&D. However, treating it as a single edged Bastard Sword would probably serve just as well.

I think I'm going to use Falchion stats.
Any suggestions to a lvl. 6 "Medium Infantry" build?

Fighter 2/Barbarian 4 (if chaotic), Fighter 2/Knight 4 (if lawful). Scout 6 if you feel like being a little more wilderness oriented.

EDIT: If you have Tome of Battle, go with Crusader 6 or Warblade 6.

Not always the greatest reference, but a simple search here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grosse_Messer

explicitly states a comparison to the falchion. I wouldn't see any problems with statting a DnD weapon similarly.

But wikipedia also refers to falchion as a one handed weapon. I'd say the great knife is more like a longsword.

maybe 1 handed falchion states with the exotic weapon prof if your DM is cool with that.

I'm going to use the one from the video and that one is by no means one-handed.

Falchion is just a catch all term in the context of that Wikipedia Article, like 'Sword', you get various permutations.

The concept I had in minds was a former mercenary turned caravan guard.
He uses a grosse messer because its relatively cheap and very durable. (Full tang, this baby isn't going to snap any time soon)

I think a scout is a little light for this concept and the knight and the barbarian doesn't fit at all IMHO.
So, any other suggestions?

Uh, Fighter? Depends what you want to do with this character. There are tons of options in terms of Base Classes and Prestige Classes.

Human Fighter would probably be my choice, though. Power Attack, Cleave, Combat Expertise, Weapon Focus (Falchion), Weapon Specialisation (Falchion). He would pretty much do what it says on the tin at Level 4.

You could weild the sword shown in the video one handed. He just has 2 hands on it for more power. Its around 3 feet long so its about bastard sword length. If you wanted to go with it as a two-handed only weapon, I would use falchion stats since its a lot smaller then a great sword.
